Every now and then I get asked where the podcast is. I have left it live, people still listen every day (not millions or anything. ) which is nice.

But it’s been about 6 months and It costs money every month to keep it live and I just don’t have the motivation to do anymore episodes. It seems silly to pay for something i won’t use so i deactivated the account today , when they put the price up again, not whinging about the cost , it was a fun hobby , but yeah, I just don’t like doing the same thing over and over, think it’s been done to death a bit, only so much I can bag Leigh.

I just want to thank anyone who listened , or commented and passed on feedback , the support was amazing. I want to thank every guest who gave their time and their stories and even some of those hard to get guests I never got.

Thanks all, we might do a beer mile again though so stay tuned

thanks again
Andrew

In our final episode we chat to the impressive Ben Arkless.

Ben is a footy legend , has played for a few clubs , and some great success on the footy field , his positivity and desire to win stand out
In this chat. More recently Ben has also go into some running. He tells about the ups and downs and the wins and losses he has faced and also dealing with mental struggles and other battles. Thanks to Ben for sharing and s**t Leigh arranged two guests in a row it is a miracle.

This is the last episode of the season and either the last episode ever or just for a little while. Hopefully we will return in some form in 2022,
Will see how we go.

But if we don’t come back I would just like to thank everyone for listening and all the support , we have managed to pass 25,000 downloads and most of them aren’t just me, that’s crazy, so thanks for anyone who listened, commented, rated us or gave any feedback it’s been amazing.

More importantly thank you to all our guests for sitting down and sharing their stories, being open, honest and often raw, I have found every single guest fascinating and entertaining, it’s been a privilege to talk to you all.

When we aren’t doing beer miles we do still do this podcast.

Recently there was a miracle, Leigh arranged a guest and it was the great Matt Morgan, who popped in for a chat.

He talks about moving overseas for mysterious adventures that he is a bit cagey about, think he picked up a lot of ladies.
Then we discuss his outstanding run journey and approach to running particularly his achievements in marathons, his wife and kids and the wonderful family life and his general philosophy on life. Thanks Matt for your time

This week we are lucky enough to be joined by one of the nicest and most cheerful members of the local community Amanda Aitken.

She is one of the main drivers of parkrun , directing and coordinating the Launceston event and someone who has built up their running to the point of doing her first marathon this year around the streets of Launceston . I think the fact so many turned out to support this run speaks volumes to the high esteem everyone holds Amanda in.

Amanda talks about her life journey , her family , health, fitness and motivation and we thank her heaps for her time.

This week we are joined by the delightful Sarah Bagley for a chat about her interesting life.

Sarah is known in running cricles for her outstanding running and for appearing in the middle of group running photos. Sarah tells us all about her overseas travel, how she got into teaching and her running journey. Sarah is relatively new to running and has gone from being initially shy about running around others to a well respected and outstanding member of the running community. Thanks Sarah for your time.

Three more episodes to go, Leigh is back, thinking we might do a christmas episode and invite some guests back, comment below with who would be good to get back on and win a run with Leigh.

This weeks guest is the amazing John Ralph probably best known now as the man behind Ascent Fitness and the Launceston Urban Fringe Trail.

John tells us about growing up and his sports and education journey, getting into weight lifting at a high level and becoming a national champion. He is also a well renowned bagpiper having performed for the Queen and with John Farnham. John is a highly intelligent man who gets into his passions including his love for bush walking and hiking up mountains, often combining this with the bagpipes.

More recently John has started his own fitness organisation and if your looking to get into fitness with a focus on walking in urban , trail and mountain environments John is your man.

Many of our listeners may have seen the LUFTs signs around Launceston, and this is all Johns brain child having developed the urban trail around the complete fringe of Launceston. A passionate, compelling and interesting guest this is a great conversation and in two parts on all platforms.

This week we were lucky to joined by another rowing legend in Blair Tunevitsch . We had his cousin Ali Foot on the other day and now hear the other side of the awesome pairing.

Blair is a world champion and gold medalist who has been in the Olympic squad and represented his country at the highest level. He discusses how we got into the sport, the lessons he learnt and what hard work, determination and courage can give an athlete . He is now into triathlon and is a gun athlete . Listening to his drive and work ethic makes you want to head out and train harder, this is a good one.

A few weeks ago we had a chat with David Williams about his new book an unstoppable runner, at the same time we had a quick chat about his life and running in general and here it is today.

David is an inspirational guy with a fascinating background, playing cricket, moving countries and getting into running basically further and further and further again! He has battled some health challenges and grief but through it all showed tremendous resilience and strength .

This one was on zoom, zoom is a pain , lovely we can chat anywhere in the world of course but the poor guest doesn’t get to meet the stars this way 😛

Well you asked for us to redo episode two with Josh Slocombe and we like to do whatever we are asked to do. 40 likes and here’s the new Josh show.

There’s been a suggestion from the Leigh fans maybe he should go solo, he didn’t quite do that, he grabbed Peter Rawlings to co host and sat Josh down to tell him all about himself!!

In all seriousness Josh is a champion young man who has gone from a little runner following his mum to a speedy lanky guy with determination and drive to always get better and better , he has improved out of sight and is chasing some lofty goals with his running. Josh is also a kind hearted guy who is happy to help others achieve a goal with a kind word or running with them to the finish line.

He is olympic level at dribbling s**t about Richmond and the Golden State Warriors - he is worse than Leigh about Essendon

Thanks Josh for coming back on again

We have been lucky to have so many outstanding guests on our show (all of them) but one absolute standout is this man Dave Campbell. He is one of the biggest hearted kind people in the local running scene.

Tomorrow he is taking on point to pinnacle and chasing the sub 2 hour hat, we want to wish him all the best with this goal, he hopefully get it, it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t get it of course but if anyone deserves it , then it’s Dave!

All the best to him and everyone else in this challenging race

This week we talk to the delightful Sarah Ellis who kindly moved back to Tasmania just to speak with us.

She talks about growing up and finding her way into cycling almost by accident after being identified as a talent. Learning how to race and working out how to train effectively and getting more active as she got older, improving more as she went. She talks about running, triathlons and sports with her dad. She shares the exhilaration of completing her first Ironman.

Sarah is determined and an amazingly hard working athlete who has shown amazing grit to fight back from a recent accident where she was hit while on her bike suffering horrific injuries and then even copping abuse and other awful stuff on social media despite being the victim. Sarah has an inspirational story and her current comeback to sport is amazing, we thank her heaps for sharing her story.

The newest guest is the wonderful Tamara Webb, who popped in for a chat, apparently too early for Leigh who refused to do what he called senior citizen hours.

Tamara is one of the friendliest, loveliest people in the local community , who shares her story, growing up, dancing, sport, marriage, kids, battling her health and finally getting into running . Apparently she also likes shopping as well. Tamara is a great example of perseverance and a positive attitude , taking to running quite late she has achieved magnificent results. She also discusses her passion for travel and I think she owns more shoes than most!!

Our newest guest still actually hasn’t said yes to coming on the show, but turned up for a chat anyway and that is the fabulous Kate Lee-Archer.

Kate is one of the smartest, funniest , generous people I know, even though she would seemingly like to pretend she’s not, she is very caring and thoughtful person with a wonderful story, it was a privilege to learn more about her.

She tells us all about growing up loving dancing, then being a bit of a ratbag, playing sports, studying, getting on the p**s, before chatting all about her recent triumphs in pole dancing. As you can see in her photos she does some impressive things on the pole and is now teaching others, in fact for a nominal fee you can go and be taught by her. We also took about her running, she says she hates running but sure does a lot of it for someone who dislikes it, she may even be doing the Cadbury half marathon I hear.

Kate is an inspiring guest with a story of working hard , perseverance and determination and we thank her for coming in for a chat.

Again despite saying she would have nothing to say this is in two parts

If you are looking for a podcast to end your long weekend on we have a great guest for you. We are joined by Australian Rowing Champion Ali Foot. Not only has he represented his country at the top level , he has won gold.

Ali talks about his competitive drive, the hard work , how to drop weight super quick (not recommended ) proving people wrong and training at the elite level. He talks about going to the Olympics, about competing for spots and how he finished with rowing, and the massive success he now has in triathlon and other sports.

This is a great tale about drive, determination success and bloody hard work. We also ask about his nickname 12 inch that is on Wikipedia.

Thanks Ali Foot for your time, it was a lot of fun.

This episode is with an international guest, the friendly Mandeep Jaiman . He is relatively new to the Launceston running community but has already made a great impression , and learnt quickly how to talk s**t and stir people up , a little bird tells me his mouth has landed him into an impossible bet for bruny!!

Manny shares his journey growing up in India, describing himself as the best dancer the country has produced, before taking his first flight ever to move across the world to Australia, chasing his life goals and dreams. Manny is an award winning engineer and a heck of a fitness freak.

Manny is honest , open, funny and engaging sharing his world wide journey and how he finds himself now in Tasmania making friends wherever he goes, if you want a story of perseverance, courage and fun this is a good one. .

In this episode we were lucky enough to chat to the wonderful Mel Flynn. Although she is about 4 foot 2 she is a force of nature with her determination, passion, fight and courage.

Mel probably swears more than me and despite her size could probably kick the s**t out of me. She has a wonderful story that includes one of the most unique learn to swim stories, growing up a gun surfer , joining the navy and her exploits there and meeting her husband (I loved her first impressions) and having family, living overseas and all of her sporting exploits.

Mel also shared her recent battles with breast cancer and how she has basically told cancer to f*** off. She is an inspirational person and a diverse, intelligent person and whilst I love all the guests we get on, I have to say I was genuinely in awe of some of the stuff Mel has done, thanks Mel For your time. I think our listeners will enjoy this one. She didn’t send me many photos and I had to pinch a few, she keeps them well hidden , but found some on the dark web.

Leigh couldn’t be arsed turning up , nor could Georgie so it’s just the dulcet tones of the great man here in a solo interview, hopefully that’s ok for you all.
