I'm sharing this news about an upcoming BACK TO THE FUTURE event for Michael Klastorin, who is overseeing the fun:

* * *

The Stars Will Be Out in Hill Valley! We’re Going Back in 3 Weeks for the benefit of TEAM FOX!

(October 1) Back to the Future Celebrations is thrilled to announce the latest additions to our array of guests! The one and only Lorraine Baines Tannen McFly, LEA THOMPSON will be joining us at the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance on October 27th to meet and greet the fans! And that dance will take place in the location in which it was filmed for both Back to the Futures 1 & 2!

You’ll have to be on time for all of our celebration festivities, or you risk getting a tardy slip from none other than Principal Strickland, JAMES TOLKAN, who will be with us for all days of the event!

Also joining us is CHARLES FLEISCHER, multi-talented actor/comedian/artist who might ask you to “thumb a hundred bucks” to save the clocktower as he did with Marty in Back to the Future Part II! You’ll also recognize him as the voice of everyone’s favorite hilarious hare in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?”

Other celebrities scheduled to appear* include the Back to the Future Trilogy Co-Creator and Co-Writer BOB GALE, Award-Winning Cinematographer DEAN CUNDEY ( Jurassic Park, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Thing), BILLY ZANE (“Match” from Back to the Future, Back to the Future Part II, Titanic, The Phantom), MARC McCLURE (Dave McFly, Superman, Justice League), CLAUDIA WELLS (Jennifer Parker-Back to the Future), DARLENE VOGEL (‘Spike’ - Back to the Future Part II, The Ranch, General Hospital), RICKY DEAN LOGAN (‘Data’ - Back to the Future Part II, Freddy’s Dead:The Final Nightmare), DON FULLILOVE (‘Mayor Goldie Wilson - Back to the Future, Monsters University), JEFFREY WEISSMAN (‘George McFly’ - Back to the Future II & III, Pale Rider, Twilight Zone:The Movie), and many more cast and crew members!

This four-day Back to the Future immersive fan event is full of exciting, exclusive activities celebrating the trilogy and the 30th anniversary of the release of Back to the Future Part II! And even more important all proceeds go to TEAM FOX for Parkinson’s Research!

Guests will be treated to a ‘Delorean Day’ at the famed Petersen Automotive Museum, where the fully restored ‘A-car’ time machine, used in all three films is on display. There will be stars, special screenings and panels about the creation of this iconic screen vehicle, and all other things Back to the Future! A special auction will cap off the day, featuring some incredible Back to the Future items, as well as special personal experience opportunities. Portions of the auction proceeds will also be donated to TEAM FOX.

A special day of touring the locations used in filming Back to the Future and Back to the Future Part II includes an exclusive fan-only stop in Hill Valley Town square in front of the Courthouse for a picnic, by special arrangements with Universal Studios! We’ll also stop by Doc’s Mansion, otherwise known as the historic Gamble House, as well as other instantly recognizable locations from the films.

Outdoor ‘under the stars and with the stars’ screenings of Back to the Future and Back to the Future Part II will be introduced by some of the cast members and there will be food trucks and special prizes for some lucky guests!

We’ll be stopping by the McFly house for a block party, where we’ll commemorate the historic significance of the home with the dedication of a plaque to mark the occasion. The celebs will be on hand, and there’ll be music, games, contests, and more!

Want the real ‘behind-the-scenes’ info? Then you’ll want to ‘meet the family,’ the crew members from all departments who will share their memories and stories from the shooting of the films.

Finally, what better way to end the celebration than with the “Enchantment Under the Sea Dance,” where all our cast and crew members will mix and mingle, sign autographs and take photos.** We’ll have our official Back to the Future band, The Flux capacitors to provide the music, so dress your best, put on your dancing shoes and celebrate the night away with your fellow BTTF enthusiasts!

Four-day packages as well as limited single-day tickets are still available at
http://www.weregoingbacktothefuture.com/tickets

It’s going to be epic! You’ve gotta come back with us!!

**autograph and photos subject to separate fee set by artist.

At last I can announce this, since DC Comics has revealed it: I'm contributing a bunch of writing to a book celebrating the 30th anniversary of the comic series Hellblazer--and the book will feature a foreword written by Sting, the lead singer of The Police, on whose image Hellblazer's John Constantine was originally based. I cannot describe how giddy this makes me. FREAKIN' STING!!! (I've already read his foreword, by the way, and it's fantastic.)

"If you kill yourself... all those people who really, really love you will be really fu***ng confused for the rest of their lives, and really angry... At the end of the day, there's somebody who's supposed to be in your life, and they're not, and they never will be again."

This. A thousand times, this. Please don't take your own life. Those who care about you will never fully recover from it. Losing someone is awful enough as it is--but losing someone and knowing that person took his or her own life is crippling, because the thought that someone you truly cared about was in THAT much pain and you never saw it is beyond heartbreaking. No matter how alone or alienated or hopeless or unloved or in despair you might feel, I guarantee you that those who know you will be devastated by your decision to commit su***de, and the hole that act will leave is one that cannot be filled in. This video pretty much nails what it feels like to be a survivor.

Here's an article I wrote that I have to admit being pleased with. I often see people claim STAR TREK: DISCOVERY messes with the "prime" timeline, but I put forth that there IS no "prime" timeline, due to dozens of examples of history already having been altered, and that DISCOVERYs changes thus make complete sense.

As most of you know, Hasslein Books co-founder Paul Giachetti passed away in August. For years, Paul collected Star Wars spaceships, and his parents are now looking for a good home for them, in an effort to offset the cost of his funeral and other expenses. Paul's father has taken a bunch of photos showcasing the ships, and you can download a zip file containing all of them at the URL below. If you're interested in buying some or all of them, please let me know and I can put you in touch with his parents. Thanks!

If you can't access the zip file, try this:

It's not a zip file, which means you'll need to click on each image separately.

To those of you who use Patreon: What do you think of it? Is it effective? Does anyone actually pay money for your work, or do you find yourself posting content in a vacuum? Have you had any bad experiences with the site? How do you receive your money, and how often?

I ask because I'm thinking of setting up a Patreon account and examining every Star Trek comic published to date, one at a time, starting at the beginning in 1967 and eventually working my way up to the current issues.

Hi, everyone,

I've shipped out a bunch of DVDs, Blu-rays, and video games from the late Paul Giachetti's collection, and I thank again those who have purchased them, or who have spread the word to their Facebook friends. While the money being raised isn't a lot, it will help his parents recoup their expenses incurred from his passing. I've updated the spreadsheet with what's still available, and am re-posting it in case anyone else wants to buy some movies, TV shows, or games for a good cause. Anything in yellow highlight is reserved for someone who plans to purchase those items. Everything else is still up for grabs. If you're interested, please send me a private message. Thanks again.

Good morning, everyone. As you probably know, my friend and business partner, Paul Giachetti, died last month. Paul had a sizable Blu-ray and DVD collection, which his parents have decided to sell since their interests are quite different than his were.

Due to various issues I won't get into here, Paul's estate is currently tied up and they can't access it, which means they're paying for his condo out of their own pockets for the time being, until all the legal stuff is taken care of. As you can imagine, this has put a financial strain on them. Therefore, they've asked me to post the following spreadsheet of movies and TV shows, in the hope that they'll find a good home with someone who will appreciate and enjoy them, while also giving his parents some extra money to work with.

If you are interested in buying some or all of what is on the list, or if you know someone who would be, please let me know privately (not in the comments below) and we can discuss prices and postage costs. This will be a first-come, first-served basis. And please spread the word if you know anyone who collects Blu-rays and/or DVDs (there are also some PC video games on the list), as I'm sure it's painful for his parents to have to deal with this (it is for me). The sooner it's taken care of, the better. Thanks, everyone.

Here's a link to the Excel spreadsheet:

It is with great regret that I announce that Hasslein Books will no longer be publishing new titles. For now, existing books will continue to be available for sale, but all unpublished titles have been canceled following the tragic passing of co-founder Paul Giachetti.

06/08/2017

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I announce that one of my very best friends—basically, my brother—passed away yesterday. Paul Giachetti is a name many of you know because half my Facebook friends are also on his friends list, due to our both having been in the publishing industry for many years. But the rest of you may have seen his name in my posts from time to time, as he was also my business partner at Hasslein Books. I've known Paul for almost 20 years, and have been close with him since very soon after meeting him. He was one of the kindest, most generous, most considerate people I've ever been fortunate enough to meet, and given the reactions of the many friends who got together at my house last night to grieve him, everyone else who knew him felt the exact same way.

Paul was the author of two extremely well-received books, Total Immersion: The Comprehensive Unauthorized Red Dwarf Encyclopedia Volumes I and II, and he was also a 20+-year veteran of business-to-business magazines as an art director and graphic designer. He was a fantastic person who cared about everyone he ever met. He adored his niece, his nephew, his brother, his parents, and all of his friends, and that sentiment was returned tenfold. He was an uncle to the children of all his close friends, and he was someone you could always count on, no matter the circumstance.

Paul's death was sudden and tragic, and those of us who knew him well are all heartsick at his passing. There are only a handful of people in my life whom I've ever considered among my "best friends"—it's a term I don't use lightly—but he was high on that list.

My heart goes out to Paul's brother Jason, his sister-in-law Amy, his niece Mila, his nephew Luca, and his parents, John and Jennifer, who are dealing with something no one should ever have to deal with. Having lost a brother, a father, and other members of my family, I know what they're going through, and it breaks my heart. I can only hope they find consolation in knowing that all of his closest friends are shattered by the passing of someone who truly deserved the title of "friend," in the sense that what people really mean when they say it is "family." Rest in peace, my brother. The words "You will be missed" are so inadequate to the task of summing up how we all feel about you.

In lieu of flowers our family is asking you to make a donation to a charity of your choosing. We can't think of a better way to honor Paul and his generosity towards others.

PLANET OF THE APES fans, here's an APES story you might not have known about. Last year, punk-rock band ANTiSEEN released an LP containing an original POTA comic titled APE CITY STOMP. I just received my copy today and it's pretty cool.

The album is called WE'RE # ONE! and the comic is written by Barry Hannibal and illustrated by Jamie Vayda. If you're a fan of punk-rock music, Planet of the Apes, or the old Power Records album-sized comics of the 1970s, then this is something you might enjoy.

To those in the New York area:

Hasslein Books' Rich Handley and Paul Giachetti will once again have a booth at Eternal Con, being held this year on July 1-2 at the Nassau Coliseum, in Uniondale. We'll be in the artists' room this time instead of the dealers' room.

Celebrity guests will include Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica, Blade Runner), Brianna Hildebrand (Deadpool), Lee Meriwether (Batman, Star Trek), Maggie Geha (Gotham), Helen Slater (Supergirl), several Power Rangers actors, and... for some reason... a bunch of professional wrestlers. Come say hello, meet us in person, and get some books signed!
