A British sailor removes the leg chains off an enslaved man who had worn them for three years, 1907.
This photograph shows a sailor removing the manacle from a newly freed slave. The picture is part of a small collection donated by Samuel Chidwick to the Royal Naval Museum in Portsmouth. His father Able Seaman Joseph Chidwick, born in 1881, was serving aboard HMS Sphinx.

Falleció joven víctima de explosión de tanque de gas

Karla Cash Miller, la joven de 22 años de edad que sufrió graves quemaduras tras la explosión de un tanque de gas ayer en Bluefields ha fallecido.

Leah Miller, prima de Karla, expresó su dolor en un emotivo mensaje: "Te nos fuiste y no me sobró tiempo para decirte cuánto te amo.."

El lamentabe accidente ocurrió la madrugada de ayer miércoles 9 de octubre en la vivienda de la familia Cash ubicadas en el barrio Lomas frescas.

De acuerdo a los bomberos, la explosión fue causada por fisuras en la manguera del tanque de gas.

Nuestra comunidad llora la pérdida de Karla, recordando su espíritu vivaz y su dedicación a los demás.

Isleña gana concurso de fisiculturismo natural en Islas Caimán

Dedica su triunfo a la memoria de su hermana Danthia

Aquilia Elizabeth Daniels Gómez de Whittaker, originaria de Little Corn Island y residente en Islas Caimán, se consagró por segundo año consecutivo como campeona del concurso "Muscle Mayhem 2024", el principal certamen de fisiculturismo natural y fitness en Islas Caimán.

Con 30 años de edad y madre de dos hijos, Aquilia dedicó esta victoria a la memoria de su hermana, Danthia Daniels Gómez, quien falleció hace tres meses.

Tras la dolorosa pérdida de su hermana, Aquilia consideró abandonar su carrera en el fisiculturismo, afectada por el duelo. Sin embargo, encontró la fuerza para regresar a sus entrenamientos y, con determinación, alcanzó nuevamente el primer lugar en el prestigioso concurso, convirtiendo su triunfo en un homenaje a su hermana.

“Muscle Mayhem” reúne a los mejores competidores de fisiculturismo natural y fitness de la región, y Aquilia ha representado con orgullo a su comunidad, convirtiéndose en un ejemplo de resiliencia y perseverancia.

Este nuevo logro no solo destaca su disciplina en el deporte, sino también su capacidad para transformar el dolor en motivación, uniendo a su familia y a su comunidad en torno a su victoria.

Felicidades a Aquilia por este merecido reconocimiento y por llevar con orgullo el nombre de Little Corn Island a nivel internacional.

Born Marcus Mosiah Garvey on August 17, 1887, in St Ann's Bay, Garvey was one of 11 children of Marcus Garvey Sr and Sarah Jane Richards.
He attended school in Jamaica until the age of 14.

He was an apprentice in a print shop before he left Jamaica for Costa Rica and later London, where he studied law and philosophy at Birkbeck College in Bloomsbury.

Garvey returned to Jamaica in 1927. He would set up several pan-Africanism movements before returning to London.

Marcus Garvey was the father of the black nationalist and pan african movements, activist & founder of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL)

He advanced a Pan-African philosophy which inspired a global mass movement, known as Garveyism. Garveyism would eventually inspire others, from the Nation of Islam to the Rastafari movement.

He also created The Pan-African/Black Liberation flag.

In January 1940, he suffered a stroke which left him paralysed. He died on June 10, 1940, at the age of 52 from a second stroke.
