A bittersweet farewell from •

I always say if we don’t laugh, we’ll cry…and my goodbye to you all is no different! Media literacy is one of my greatest passions, so being able to build this brand with 2 of my favorite humans has been one of the highlights of my post-grad life. Thank you all so much for letting me be part of this experience! I couldn’t have imagined last year that I would be where I am today, and Speak Easy 100% played a role in that 💜 I’ll miss talking about tHe MeDiA & getting tipsy with you all every other week, but your favorite podcast is STILL gonna be amazing because Emily & Lana will continue to produce fun and inspiring content, and hopefully I’ll make a guest appearance from time to time 🤪 The next chapter of my life is rapidly approaching (oof) and I wish I had a million hours in the day to keep producing this show, but for now I will be cheering my cohosts on via Spotify. Thank you for all the laughs and listens — I hope you all feel a little more connected to the media. As always, stay informed—cheers! 🥂💜

Two times the guests, Three times the think or drink questions; this episode we are covering a topic so big we have two special guests to explain the complexities of Juneteenth.

Stephen Graves, Ph.D. serves the University of Missouri in the Departments of Black Studies. He specializes in Political Theory, Black Politics, and American Government and is a leading researcher in Black Political Thought.

Prior to receiving his PhD from Howard University, Dr. Graves received his Master’s Degree (MA) in Political Science from the University of Nevada, Reno.

His first book entitled A Crisis of Leadership and the Role of Citizens in Black America: Leaders of the News School, is a theoretical examination of the concepts of the citizenship and Black leadership. While teaching, Dr. Graves has been involved in the community as the founder of Troublesome, a non-profit organization that focuses on community outreach and providing educational and professional services to minorities and underprivileged groups.

We are honored to introduce our guest Dr. Boukary Sawadogo, who will join us for next week’s episode Juneteenth: Free-ish in America.  

Dr. Sawadogo is a professor of cinema studies in the Department of Media and Communication Arts, and the Black Studies Program at the City College of New York aka . His research and teaching interests concern the diaspora and African cinema. Dr. Sawadogo is the author of three books on African cinema. His fourth and forthcoming book is entitled Africans in Harlem: The Untold New York. He is also the founding director of the Harlem African Animation Festival.
