The number of my devotees is great, but the number of my disciples is much less. The devotee seeks the pleasure of his own devotion, while the disciple's only duty is to obey the commands of the Master, which is much more difficult. Devotees select their own Master and surrender to him. A Master selects his own disciples. Therefore, many can become devotees, but only a few can become disciples.

THE SITE OF MEHER BABA'S TOMB

Earlier in June 1927, Baba had had a cabin built for himself on Meherabad Hill out of bamboo matting and tin sheets, with one door and a window on the east side. In the last week of July, Baba ordered a pit to be dug in the floor of this small cabin, six feet long, four feet wide and six feet deep, but at the time he did not disclose its purpose.

The pit was made permanent with stone and masonry work. Small steps were built leading down into the pit, which was then covered by wooden planks. Later, the tin walls were replaced by cemented stone and two more windows were added. The windows to the west and north overlooked the playground of Meher Ashram. In front of the window on the eastern side, a platform was built for the students and visitors to sit on while Baba discoursed. Wire netting was fixed on all the windows.

From August 16th, 1927, Baba began staying in this cabin-like crypt which the mandali would refer to as the Khadda — the Ditch or Pit-Room. Baba was planning to spend a number of months in seclusion there. Only years later did the mandali learn that this Pit-Room or Crypt was to be the site of Meher Baba's Tomb.

GOD IS ETERNAL EXISTENCE

Philosophers, atheists and others may affirm or refute the existence of God, but as long as they do not deny the very existence of their own being they continue to testify to their belief in God—for I tell you with divine authority, that God is Existence, eternal and infinite. He is EVERYTHING.

Whether man knows it or not, there is for him only one aim in life, and eventually he realizes this when he consciously experiences his own eternal and infinite state of "I Am God."

The Inquisitive and Doubting Man
Once an inquisitive and doubting man
went to Bayazid the Perfect Master and said,
'You, being Perfect, ought to know the
thoughts of others. What am I thinking
of just now?' Bayazid replied, 'You are
thinking that which you ought not
to have thought of, and asking that which
you ought not to have asked. Had you come
with an open mind and curbed tongue
you would have received that which you
ought to have received, instead of this
welldeserved rebuke.'

Gifts of Love

Love is a gift from God to man. Obedience is a gift from Master to man. Surrender is a gift from man to Master.
One who loves desires the will of the Beloved. One who obeys does the will of the Beloved. One who surrenders knows nothing but the will of the Beloved.
Love seeks union with the Beloved. Obedience seeks the pleasure of the Beloved. Surrender seeks nothing.
One who loves is the lover of the Beloved. One who obeys is the beloved of the Beloved. One who surrenders has no existence other than the Beloved.
Greater than love is obedience. Greater than obedience is surrender. All three arise out of, and remain contained in, the Ocean of divine Love.

ERUCH BEHRAMSHAW JESSAWALA (Eruch)

Eruch B. Jessawala, primary interpreter of Baba’s signs and gestures, as the “Tongue of God” was well known for his deep understanding of Baba’s life and work and hundreds of seekers came to hear him speak of Baba.

Eruch Behramshaw Jessawala (October 13, 1916 – August 31, 2001), born in Bombay, India, was a close disciple of the silent Indian master Meher Baba, and one of His mandali. Eruch was also the primary interpreter of Meher Baba’s alphabet board, and later his unique sign language.

Eruch was born in Bombay to Zoroastrian parents, Beheram and Gaimai Jessawala. His father Beheram was an engineer with a high post in the Indian government in Nagpur, the capital of central provinces at that time. Due to constant relocations of his father, Eruch was placed in an orthodox Zoroastrian boarding school in Nasik, India at the age of 6. When his father eventually bought an estate, Eruch was transferred to a Catholic school at the age of 8 where he excelled as a student, eventually planning to study engineering like his father.

Due to family pressures, Eruch married his cousin Khorshed Damania on 25th may 1945, at Ahmednagar, which was attended by Meher Baba but according to Baba’s orders, soon after the wedding, he joined Baba permanently and never lived with his wife.

Eruch’s wife Khorshed became involved with Gangaram Mirchandani, who claimed to be a guru. Mirchandani was the same "bogus saint" who had sent three of his followers to confront Baba at Ashiana in Bombay in 1957. Baba forbade Khorshed from visiting Bindra House and also wished that the four Akbar Press families not get involved with this so-called guru.

According to Eruch the first time he remembered meeting Meher Baba was in 1925 at the age of nine on a trip with his family to Ahmednagar.

SEVEN SAHAVAS SAYINGS
Meher Baba

Desire for nothing except desirelessness.
Hope for nothing except to rise above all hopes.
Want nothing and you will have everything.

Seek not to possess anything but to surrender everything.
Serve others with the understanding that in them you are serving me.
Be resigned completely to my will and my will will be yours.
Let nothing shake your faith in me and all your bindings will be shaken off.

Real happiness lies in making others happy.
The real desire is that which leads you to become perfect in order to make others perfect.
The real aim is that which aims to make others become God by first attaining Godhood yourself.

Be angry with none but your weakness.
Hate none but your lustful self.
Be greedy to own more and more wealth of tolerance and justice.
Let your temptation be to tempt me with your love in order to receive my grace.
Wage war against your desires and Godhood will be your victory.

Love others as you would love yourself and all that is yours.
Fortunate are they whose love is tested by misfortunes.
Love demands that the lover sacrifice for the Beloved.

Real living is dying for God.
Live less for yourself and more for others.
One must die to one's own self to be able to live in all other selves.
One who dies for God lives forever.

This period of sahavas is the period of my suffering and helplessness.
My glorification will follow my humiliation.
