Tales of Contact, Cultures, and Community opens this Saturday, September 14! 🎉 Join us for an inspiring opening reception at MoCA L.I. from 5:00-7:00 PM.

Curated by the PAC • MoCA L.I. curatorial team in collaboration with Ma’s House, this exhibition features an incredible lineup of artists: Pyaari Azaadi, Efrat Baler-Moses, Molly Crabapple, Jennifer DeMory, Venessa Diaz, Margarita Espada, Barry Feuerstein, Miroslava Gonzalez, Sueey Gutierrez, Gerry Hirschstein, Takafumi Ide, Christie Jones, Roshanak Keyghobadi, Segundo Orellana, Filiberto Perez, Edel Rodriguez, Alexandrite Spatz.

In partnership with Ma’s House, the Patchogue Arts Council proudly presents this exhibition, celebrating cultures, connections, and community through the power of art. 🌍✨

Patchogue Arts Council acknowledges that the land on which our space stands, at 20 Terry Street, Patchogue, NY, is part of the traditional territory of the Unkechaug Nation. We honor and respect the enduring relationship that exists between Unkechaug people and their ancestral territories. We recognize the deep cultural and artistic contributions of the Indigenous peoples, past and present, who have shaped and continue to influence this land. We honor and respect the many diverse Indigenous peoples still connected to this land on which we gather, create, and celebrate the arts.

✨ Join us at for a powerful screening of My Story: Out of the Darkness—a moving short film that tells the inspiring journey of Hampton Bays High School students. These courageous young individuals share their personal stories of migration, overcoming countless challenges and obstacles in their quest for a brighter future. With the invaluable support of , this film brings to life their resilience, hope, and determination as they chase their dreams in the face of adversity.

This project is part of the Partners in Education, Arts, & Community Empowerment (PEACE) program at Patchogue Arts Council (PAC), which empowers educators in Suffolk County middle and high schools to make more effective use of the arts for underrepresented students. Through a focus on College, Career, and Civic Readiness (CCCR) and Culturally Responsive-Sustaining education (CR-S), PEACE addresses urgent local, state, and national educational issues. This program is made possible with funds from the Department of Education Assistance in Art Education Program. Don’t miss this heartfelt celebration of strength and the pursuit of a better tomorrow! 🎥

On the road from New York to LA for Strong Yaqui Women’s fifth film festival. All are extremely special, but this one is in my old stomping grounds, Los Angeles and being screened by mi gente, nuestra gente, !

Una nieta inicia una jornada para descubrir su lugar en una larga línea de mujeres fuertes, indígenas latinoamericanas. Sus antepasados le dan fuerza y la guían para recuperar su verdad cultural, su guerrera Yaqui interior, que utiliza para alentar y apoyar a nuevas generaciones y a los agentes de cambio.

A granddaughter’s journey to discover her place in a long line of resilient Latin-American indigenous women. Her ancestors give her strength and guide her to reclaim her cultural truth - her inner Yaqui guerrera - which she uses to encourage and support younger generations and changemakers.

I am still processing the enormity of my recent travels to our ancestral lands. I am finding that there is no comprehensive way to remotely express how it felt or what it meant, but I hope that my forthcoming posts do this experience justice and make my relatives smile 😊 🌵
