Musical people of Southampton lend me your ears, your experiences, perspectives and opinions of our wonderful and diverse output.
The City of Culture bid needs your views as we enter the next stage of the process on our way to winning this wonderful opportunity.
We have set up this chance for you to engage in a conversation about what is good about our city and drive the thinking about the exciting things we can all deliver in the spotlight of this fantastic competition.

We are still buzzing from Saturdays fantastic event Hip Hop Heritage Live! :Claim festival for Re:Claim Southampton's Street Festival and hope you all are too! The city certainly came alive and we could not have achieved this without everyones support, so thank you to all the helpers, performers and attendees for making it such a great day. Dance is an integral part of Hip Hop that allows a different form of expression and a certain finesse. Southampton was an early adopter of Breakdance and it brought together a flourishing youth culture that took up its ethos wholeheartedly and is still with us to this day. Southampton boasts a 3 x World Champion Body-popper in Poppin Ron and that should be celebrated for the achievement that it is, so catch him perform at 1.15pm this Saturday, followed by the new generation of B-Boys and some old gits :) at 2.30pm & 3.45pm.

'Beyond Graffiti' founded in 87, Southampton youth workers Mike Banks and Jacquie Lee, with the help of John McAndrew launched a new community-based graffiti outfit with the aim to inspire young artists, musicians, poets, and writers in the city to get together, harness their talents and express themselves. 👑

Introducing 1 # Promoter, Fundraiser and 1st Generation B-Boy living in Southampton. John McAndrew grew up during the birth of hip hop and still hosts events which continue to unite the scene. As an ambassador and valued member of the city’s wider community, he brings a wealth of information and support to the project.
