Posted • Soror’s here’s another “Did you Know” fun fact about Lambda Zeta Chapter. We are home to two Past International Presidents, Lullelia Walker Harrison and Mary Breaux Wright.

Soror Lullelia Walker Harrison was the 12th International President and served from 1943-1948. She was responsible for revitalizing the organization after World War II. Many members and chapters had gone inactive during the Great Depression. She leveraged her experience as the Director of the Southern Region, where she expanded the region, to the larger issue of pulling the entire national organization together. She also recommended establishing a National Executive Office with an Executive Secretary, making Zeta the first black sorority to do so. She also served as the First Executive Secretary, with the sorority’s first headquarters based here in Houston.

Soror Mary Breaux Wright was the 24th International President and served from 2012-2018. Wright was responsible for strengthening the sorority’s financial and operational infrastructure. She initiated a Capital Campaign to renovate the sorority’s International Headquarters which was completed in 2018. Her Elder Care initiative focused on raising awareness and supported actions to improve the care and welfare of senior citizens. Get Engaged was also launched under her administration and is the sorority’s Social Action/Social Justice initiative. Her famous quote, “A good Zeta is a well informed Zeta” is quoted by members all across the sisterhood.

If you are interested in being a part of the rich history of leadership in Lambda Zeta, reach out to Soror Nicole Price, First Vice President, at [email protected]. There are only a few weeks left to take advantage of special pricing!

Posted • On this day, we give honor and celebrate the birth of our triumphant founder, Viola Tyler Goings, as we continue to expand our footprint worldwide as a leading community-conscious, action-oriented organization affecting change.

It is because of the trailblazing forethought and determined ex*****on of an idea by five Howard University co-ed’s that Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, stands as one of the world’s most respected national panhellenic sororities today!

Help us wish our illustrious sister a heavenly “Happy Birthday”!

Posted • Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated congratulates Vice President Kamala Harris, as she stands on the brink of making history to become the first female and first Indian American president of the United States. She formally accepted this historic Democratic Party’s presidential nomination at the 2024 Democratic National Convention, where she outlined her vision and policy agenda for the nation.

Harris delivered an impassioned and powerful speech that conveyed her readiness to lead. The theme of the convention’s final night, “For Our Future,” captured the essence of her message.

Her speech marked the culmination of a rapid rise to the top of the Democratic ticket and the beginning of a furious 74-day sprint to Election Day. She urged Americans to recognize the significance of this election, saying, “This is a time for all Americans to come together because we have more in common than not.”

As we embrace the Extraordinary Power of S.H.E., advocating for social justice, health justice and economic justice globall, we will be doing our part to register members of our community to vote, educate them on the candidates and issues on the ballot and mobilize with our counterparts for a record breaking election turnout.

Congresswoman Lee was a true servant of the people and one of our country’s most dedicated leaders. Serving nearly 30 years in Congress she advocated passionately for issues impacting women, children and families. She was a transformative leader within the Congressional Black Caucus and her indelible impact will be felt for years to come.

We extend our deepest sympathies to her family, friends, sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the City of Houston and the great state of Texas during this time. May her legacy continue to live on through the lives she touched, the policies she created and the many ways she made a better world for us all.

She will be missed! We’ve had a lot of grand times and she was a sweet Soror! My prayers with family, friends and sorors back home!

Posted • It is with a sincere and heavy heart that we share, on the morning of July 18, 2024, Soror Elner Bailey Taylor, 25th Great Lakes Regional Director and 10th Michigan State Director, transitioned to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Triumphant Soror Taylor shared her wisdom and leadership with Zetas, Amicae, Youth, Zeta Male Network, our Brothers of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated, and the communities we serve. She was intelligent, vibrant, inclusive, and extremely supportive to everyone. We will sincerely miss our beloved Triumphant Soror Taylor, a virtuous woman. Please continue to keep Triumphant Soror Taylor’s family, the Zeta Beta Zeta Chapter, Amicae and Youth of Flint, Michigan, the Michigan State Organization, and the Great Lakes Region in our prayers.

Posted • July is Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Month, also known as BIPOC Mental Health Month. This day was formally recognized by Congress on June 2, 2008. Bebe Moore Campbell was a well known author, journalist, teacher and mental health advocate. She advocated for her daughter who had her own struggles along with Blacks and underrepresented communities.

“While everyone - all colors - everyone is affected by stigma - no one wants to say ‘I’m not in control of my mind.’ No one wants to say, ‘The person I love is not in control of [their] mind.’

But people of color really don’t want to say it because we already feel stigmatized by virtue of skin color or eye shape or accent and we don’t want any more reasons for anyone to say, ‘You’re not good enough.’”

-Bebe Moore Campbell

As we make advances in mental health, we recognize that culturally-based practices are all valid and valuable choices people can make to live mentally healthy and free from stigma.

Posted • Happy Birthday to Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated’s 24th International President Dr. Mary Breaux Wright!

Dr. Wright served from 2012 to 2018 and served two (2) consecutive terms as National First Vice-President before being elected as President. She served as the chief researcher and transcriber during the publication of Zeta’s first history book entitled, “Torchbearers of a Legacy,” commissioned the sorority’s National Elder Care and Elder Abuse Initiative which was the signature program of her administration and raised awareness and action regarding the care and welfare of seniors in this country. Also during her tenure the sorority website was fully developed allowing for on-line registration and financial transactions. Dr. Wright implemented the “Seven-Point Plan” with programs on community volunteerism, drug and substance abuse prevention, health and wellness, economic development, governmental affairs, and effective chapter management. The sorority became the only Greek-lettered organization to partner with the National Science Foundation, the NSF, with the Human Genome Project. In 1998, she was responsible for the sorority being awarded Non-Governmental, or NGO, Status by becoming a member of the United Nations.

We love you and hope you are enjoying your day!

Posted • Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, or Emancipation Day, marks the historic moment when news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached the last enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865. This momentous occasion symbolizes the end of the darkest chapters in American history and the beginning of a new era of freedom.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated joins the nation in commemorating Juneteenth, a day of profound significance in the history of African Americans. It was the steadfastness of our very own trailblazing sorority member Ms. Opal Lee (affectionately referred to as the “Grandmother of Juneteenth”) to ensure the impact of this day was recognized by all Americans which led to the establishment of the legislation needed which resulted in President Joe Biden’s signature in June 2021 proclaiming Juneteenth a federal holiday. On this day, we celebrate Soror Lee, commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and recognize our ancestors’ tenacity, strength, and triumph.

As members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated we are committed to advancing social justice, uplifting marginalized voices, and dismantling systems of oppression. We strive to create a world where every individual can thrive, regardless of race, ethnicity, or background. Let us embrace togetherness and work to increase understanding across varied cultures. We can generate sustainable change and develop a society that embraces the principles of equality, fairness, and freedom through education, conversation, and collective action.

Posted • We believe that celebrating Pride Month is a time to amplify LGBTQIA + rights and center the voices of those whose stories often go unheard. We also believe that we each have the right to love who we love, all year round - not just in June. Pride Month serves as a reminder that love knows no boundaries and that every individual deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and kindness, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Since our inception, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated has been concerned with the issues of the day. For over 104 years, we have worked to be a voice for the underserved and support marginalized communities.

Join us as we continue to lean in, as we continue to actively listen and as we continue to learn. Stand with us as we use this month to consistently educate ourselves, become better allies and celebrate the resilience and brilliance of the LGBTQIA+ community.
