We’ve known each other for years “online” and by phone, but it wasn’t until we met in person at Princeton Bible Church for the women's conference, Reliance on God and His Word - Women's Conference 2019, that we started talking about doing a podcast project together.
…is a weekly podcast on biblical issues by Amy Spreeman and Michelle Lesley. Our title comes from Proverbs 25:11:
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.
Commentaries tell us the “apples of gold” this verse mentions are not 24 karat apples, they’re real, edible apples, golden in color. And these lovely apples are presented in a “setting of silver,” a silver filigreed lattice-work basket – much like what you see in our A Word Fitly Spoken title graphic. This silver basket full of golden apples was ornamental, maybe even used as a centerpiece on a dining table. It seems people have been decorating with baskets of fruit even from the time of Solomon!
This verse represents well what we want this podcast to be. We want to offer you words fitly spoken – godly, biblical words that are just right for the moment. And while those words that we offer may be a good, nutritious snack, like a golden apple; and pleasantly presented in a basket of silver, it’s not the milk and meat and bread of a well-balanced spiritual diet that can only come from studying the Word yourself, prayer, and the teaching and fellowship you can only get from being a faithful, serving member of your own local church. We hope you’ll enjoy “snacking” on the Word with us during the week and feasting with your church family on Sundays.
“Walk Worthy”
At the end of each podcast we sign off by encouraging you to “walk worthy.” This little nugget comes from Ephesians 4:1-3:
I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
We want to leave you with the admonition to live a godly life, growing in Christ and representing Him well to the church and to the world.
Michelle hails from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, (Geaux Tigers!) where she and her husband are the proud parents of five sons and one daughter ranging in age from their teens to their thirties. Michelle loves to read, cook, and stay active in women’s ministry and other activities at church. God has blessed her with ministry opportunities outside the church as well, from authoring a women’s Bible study to writing Sunday School material for a major Christian publisher to speaking all over the country at women’s conferences, on podcasts, and at other events. Currently, Michelle’s ministry focus is discipling Christian women through her writing. Find out more about Michelle and her ministry at her blog: Michelle Lesley- Discipleship for Christian Women.
Amy hails from Minnesota, but has spent most of her adult life across the border in Wisconsin. She and her husband have two grown kids and are empty-nesters, except for the dogs and chickens. Amy enjoys reading and designing websites in her spare time, and loves to listen to Christian audiobooks and podcasts. Growing up, she was fascinated with the cult craze of the 70s, and started researching movements within the visible church after learning first hand how devastating those aberrant gospels (small g) can be. In 2010 she helped launch a discernment radio program called Stand Up for the Truth, and spent 5 years having her mind blown by the level of apostasy in churches around the world. When she speaks at conferences and women’s groups, she points them to the hope of Jesus Christ. She is the founder of Berean Research and Naomi’s Table Bible Studies for Women.
