JUST IN: PDP, LP, ADC DEMAND FRESH ELECTION, WANT INEC CHAIRMAN TO STEP ASIDE
The Peoples Democratic Party, the Labour Party and the African Democratic Congress have asked the Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu, to step aside.
The LP National Chairman, Julius Abure said “We are therefore constrained by this development to state that INEC compromised the integrity of this election even before collation commenced at the polling units.
“Section 60 sub-section 5 of the Electoral Act says that the presiding officer shall transfer the results, including total number of accredited voters and the results of the ballots in a manner as prescribed by the commission.
“A failure to comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the guidelines makes it imperative that all results recently uploaded on the IReV portal must be updated before they are announced.
“INEC went back on that promise…This election is not free and far from being fair and transparent.
“We shall not be part of the electoral process currently going on at the National Collation Centre and we demand that this sham of an election be immediately cancelled.
“We also call for a fresh election to be carried out in accordance to the laid down INEC procedure.
“We therefore call on Yakubu to step aside from his role.”
'NIGERIA WILL BE AT PEACE', GBAJABIAMILA SAYS AS REPS RESUME PLENARY
As Nigerians eagerly await the outcome of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, says the country will be at peace.
He said “Nigeria will be at peace because we will work through the law and due process to resolve differences, settle disputes and ensure the peaceful transition of power.
“I am confident we will rise above the worst expectations others may have of us in this defining this moment.
“We will resist malign actors seeking to exploit this moment of tension for their own ends. We will defeat the cynicism of those waiting to see their worst predictions for our country become real.”
DAY 3: AGAIN, INEC POSTPONES COLLATION OF RESULTS
The compilation of results for the 2023 presidential election at the International Conference Centre in Abuja has been postponed once more by the Independent National Election Commission (INEC).
Tuesday at 2:00 PM, INEC National Commissioner Festus Okoye said that collation will now start at 3:30 PM. Although findings from five states are currently available, the commission anticipates at least ten more states to participate in today's collation, he said.
On Sunday, the process of compiling the state results began. The commission had stated that collation would resume on Tuesday at 11am after Monday's collation finished a few minutes after 10 p.m.
Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC National Chairman, postponed the collation until Tuesday at 11 a.m. to give the remaining state collation officers for the presidential election (SCOPs) time to travel to Abuja.
Tuesday at noon, Okoye spoke to the media and announced that the collation had been rescheduled to today at 2 PM. Later, around 2:00 PM, he returned and announced the change to 3:30 PM.
Results have already been made public in approximately 13 states, with the winning parties splitting the victories.

Melaye, Ihedioha, Party Agents Stage Walkout During Result Collation In Abuja
On Monday, two supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar rushed out of the National Collation Centre at the Abuja International Convention Center.
Dino Melaye, a member of the 8th National Assembly from Kogi West Senatorial District, Emeka Ihedioha, a former governor of Imo State, and a Labour Party agent, among others, staged a walkout against Mahmood Yakubu, the head of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), because they were unhappy with how state collation officers were compiling results for the presidential election (SCOPs).
The results produced by INEC SCOPs were not put to the commission’s Results Viewing Portal (IReV), as frequently promised by the electoral umpire before the February 25 presidential election, Melaye, Ihedioha, and representatives of the Labour Party and others had complained.
Melaye vehemently stated that without the results being electronically uploaded on IReV, this year’s election is identical to the manual transmission of results carried out in 2015.
Melaye and others adamantly demanded that the INEC Chairman reject the results of the election in Ekiti, claiming that there were instances of over voting and electoral fraud.
They said that the way the results were compiled at the center violated the Electoral Act of 2022 and that they did not accept the SCOPs’ results.
The INEC chairman argued that the results announced by the SCOPs stand and that there was no overvoting in Ekiti. Yakubu added that the procedure had to go on.
Melaye, Ihedioha, and others reacted by breaking out of the national collation center.
