Alice Guy-Blaché was Gaumont Studios first Head of Production between 1896 to 1906. She was the second woman to direct a feature-length horror film, The Pit and the Pendulum (1913), based on the work of Edgar Allen Poe. She also directed the second - the serial killer movie Shadows of the Moulin Rouge (1913).
