WATCH: The President of the Association of International Press Sportive (AIPS), Mr. Gianni Merlo, expressed his commitment to continue collaborating with the Sports Journalists' Association of The Gambia (SJAG) to explore new projects and opportunities for Gambian sports journalists. He made these remarks following the just concluded virtual training for 20 Gambian sports journalists, organised in partnership with his association.

This collaboration will not only benefit the professional development of Gambian sports journalists, but also strengthen the ties between the AIPS and the SJAG.

On the sidelines of the SJAG Independence Seminar with Gambian Sports Legends, was a presentation of certificates to the sports journalists who participated in a three-day virtual capacity building training organized by the association in partnership with the Association International Press Sportive (AIPS).

The training aimed to enhance their skills and knowledge in sports journalism, allowing them to provide more accurate and in-depth sports reporting. The certificates serve as recognition of their dedication and hard work in improving their craft.

The SJAG Independence Seminar with Gambian Sports Legends wrapped-up in style this evening at the Olymp- Africa Centre in Serekunda East.

The seminar, which aimed to bring together sports icons and young athletes, successfully provided a platform for insightful discussions and networking opportunities. The seminar featured discussions and presentations on the history of Gambian sports and its impact on the country's identity and national pride.

Meanwhile, recommendations were made during the event and it includes providing financial support and healthcare for retired sports legends, creating a hall of fame to honor their achievements amongst others. The Sports Journalists’ Association of The Gambia will now work towards advocating for these recommendations to be implemented by the relevant authorities in order to improve the welfare and recognition of Gambian sports legends.

However, attendees left with a renewed sense of pride in their country's sporting achievements and a deeper understanding of the importance of sports in promoting unity and national development.

The Sports Journalists’ Association of the Gambia is organizing a special seminar called the 'SJAG Independence Seminar With Gambian Sports Legends' on February 19th at the Olymp-Africa centre in Serekunda East.

This seminar is part of the association's efforts to celebrate the country's 60th Independence anniversary. The event is expected to be attended by renowned Gambian sports legends, veteran sports journalists, government ministers, and other important figures in our sports.

The event will feature panel discussions where veterans will share their memories of Independence Day in sports and also discuss sports developments in the Gambia. This will provide a unique opportunity to learn about the history and evolution of sports in the country, as well as gain insight from those who have experienced it firsthand.

The three day virtual training for 20 Gambian Sports Journalists has come to an end with renewed focus on raising the profile of sports journalism in the country.

The training was held in partnership with the Association International Press Sportive (AIPS) and conducted by the award winning Argentinian journalist, Martin Marzur. This training provided valuable knowledge and skills to the journalists, helping them to improve their reporting and storytelling skills.

The participants are now equipped with the necessary tools to enhance the quality and reach of sports journalism in The Gambia.

"The training was a great success and we are very pleased with the outcome," said Omar Jarju, President of the Sports Journalists’ Association of the Gambia. "Our members were able to enhance their skills and knowledge in sports journalism through this three-day virtual training. It was a valuable opportunity for them to learn from a great storyteller and improve their reporting techniques."

The three day virtual capacity building training for 20 Gambian Sports Journalists in partnership with the Association International Press Sportive (AIPS) have started today.

The training aims to equip Gambian sports journalists with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively cover and report on sporting events. The AIPS President Mr. Gianni Merlo and the President of AIPS Africa Abdoulie Thiam attended the opening session and spoke about the importance of journalism in sports and the role of AIPS in promoting ethical and professional reporting.

Through this partnership with AIPS, Gambian sports journalists will continue to have access to valuable resources and mentorship from experienced professionals in the field.

The opening session was met with enthusiasm and eagerness from both the trainer and trainees, setting the stage for a successful and productive training.
