Went to the recently opened Taiwanese eatery, Eat 3 Bowls at Bendemeer Road. With a lot of social media buzz surrounding its Compass One outlet, we decided to try out the quieter and bigger Bendemeer outlet.

It was a nicely decorated Taiwanese retro themed restaurant, with nostalgic elements of roadside food stalls, cinema and a small “mama shop” corner.

Ordered some of their specialty and popular dishes, such as the oyster intestine mee sua, which has a savoury and nice consistency to it. The braised pork rice is another must try when going to Taiwanese restaurants like this. The minced pork was generous and very fragrant, with the oil and fats covering every single grain of rice.

MUTED. is a new gelato cafe located along Lavender Street, in an area that seems to be rejuvenated with some new cafe additions.

Its interior is minimalism at its soothing finest. Despite its “emptiness”, the cafe vibe is inviting, warm and relaxing; and sets you in the mood to enjoy some delicious gelato!

Had the Evergreen Sorbet, one of the owner’s favourites, which has a really refreshing sour yet minty flavour. Paired with the shop’s most popular Uji Matcha, providing a nice rich earthy balance. The quality of the gelato is evident in its taste and how they actually take good care of their products by covering the Uji Matcha tub to prevent it from oxidation.

It is also an ideal spot for some late night sweets as they are open till 12 midnight daily.

Located at the heart of Tanjong Pagar is Great Nanyang, a cafe serving a wide variety of local delights with a very retro coffee shop vibe!

It was early Sunday morning and the coffee shop was packed to the brim with diners and this is an indication of great food and service, as well as the buzz about this eatery in the social media landscape. The queue never stopped but we managed to be seated quite quickly.

The decorations is reminiscent of the good old days and the food is likewise! Had some of their signature dishes like the Kaya butter toast, dry Mee Siam and the iced coconut coffee. The bustling crowd really adds to the nostalgic ambience and somehow made the food even more enjoyable!

From the folks who brought us iconic cafes such as Supernova and Atlas Coffeehouse, their latest addition to the family of aesthetic cafes has landed in Jalan Besar.

It has been a while since the vicinity popped up a new cafe and Moonchild’s introduction is a much needed one to bring new life to the cafe game there.

In keeping up with its “sister” cafes, Moonchild oozes a very contemporary and cosy vibe, with great use of different textured finishing and plants to soften the look and feel of the space.

Got a cup of hot latte and tried 2 of their “Morning Situation” brunch items. The potato stack with smoked salmon has a very nice crispy and layered texture, forming a nice contrast with the savoury and slightly smoky salmon slices. Opted to change the poached eggs to scrambled ones and this is as velvety as you can get for scrambled eggs!

The Really Nice Mushroom on Toast has been making rounds on social media, so I gotta try too. Despite the simple premise of the dish, the flavour and texture was complex in a good way. The harmony of the ingredients produces a really fragrant and unique toast unlike any other.

Tucked in the quiet corner of Prestige Centre at Bukit Batok Industrial Estate, Laifaba is indeed a hidden gem, albeit a very popular one.

We went on a Sunday afternoon for lunch and despite its secluded location, there was a long queue of diners waiting to enter the packed retro themed restaurant.

Laifaba serves mainly wanton mee, with its signature roasted pork and char siew meats. The noodle taste and texture leans more towards the Hongkong style mee kia, combined with the sauces and glorious pieces of fatty succulent meats, forms one of the best wanton mee you would ever try!

Poonsti is a new rosti concept by Old Hen Kitchen, one of the OG cafes at the Farrer Park locale.

The cafe is bustling as usual when I headed there slightly after lunch hours on a weekend. Besides the usual Old Hen Kitchen menu, Poonsti offers a select few variety of handmade rosti dishes.

Chose the rosti with house cured bacon, fried egg, hot tomato jam, cream cheese. The potato shreds was grilled nicely with a light external crust and soft warm internal. The lightly seasoned rosti complemented very flavourful sweet and salty bacon well, with the tomato jam and cream cheese adding a nice layer of complexity to a very hearty rosti dish.

I have heard their matcha is very good and indeed, the bottled matcha I had was one of the better ones out there. Highly recommend getting it!

The rosti may sell out quick, so do come early if you don’t want to miss it!

Throw away everything you know about conventional spirits to make your typical cocktail concoctions because at Swan Social and Sorghum, they are using Baijiu, originating from China, as their main spirits in cooking up some really unique and unexpected cocktails!

Baijiu brands like the Mao Tai, are stereotypically known to be consumed neat and at traditional Chinese celebrations within China, have seemingly taken a new form of life at this new Indochine-style bar. Level 2 houses Swan Social, a stylishly red coloured bar with a nice selection of wines while sister brand Sorghum at level 3 is an experimental Baijiu cocktail bar that also conducts Baijiu masterclasses.

I was seated at Sorghum to try out their Baijiu cocktail, with side orders of the Mala ChIcharrones and Seafood Bouillabaisse. The Mao Hito is the alternate version of the popular mojito cocktail. Fell in love with it from the first sip! There is a faint fruity fragrance and it was surprisingly refreshing and very easy on the throat. I was expecting a rather harsh gulp, given Mao Tai’s reputation as an extremely strong spirit but I was completely taken by surprise at how smooth it was!

Also had a wonderful chat with Mr Jo, the mastermind behind the conceptualisation of Sorghum and trying to mainstream Baijiu into the cocktail scene here.

All in all, I strongly encourage cocktail enthusiasts to try out this place, for it will change your perspective of Baijiu and its place in the cocktail scene.

My ambition when I was young, was to be an architect. I even applied for university architecture course, took the aptitude test, passed it and was offered a place. But sometimes in life, things just somehow don’t go according to what you desire the most. Although I declined the offer, I still enjoy admiring the marvels of architecture till this day.

Going through the Archifest 2023 installations around Kampong Gelam has evoked some poignant “what-if” questions for me. Organised by the Singapore Institute of Architects, the theme for this year is “Interim: Acts of Adaptation” and this is my short video “romanticising” my experience at Archifest 2023!

Besides these public installations, a series of programmes have been lined up almost every day.

Archifest 2023 ends on 28 October 2023 while most installations are on until April 2024.

Wheeler’s Tropikana is a new “Bali themed” restaurant located within Gillman Barracks serving a nice variety of food items and fancy cocktail drinks.

The space itself is pretty massive, with a big sheltered patio seating area, some indoor air conditioned spaces at level 2 as well as an al fresco area beside the pool. The tropical vibes at every corner is on-point, quite a unique ambience compared to many other establishments.

Ordered the Purple Rain mocktail, which was sweet yet refreshing and had the BBQ’d Chicken with a nice charred flavour in a well marinated piece of meat. The purée was surprisingly the highlight of the dish, providing a light sweet flavour to compliment the BBQ taste.

There are live band performances in the evenings as well, so do check out their band line up schedule in the socials.

This is my “unofficial” submission to the exciting Grand Hyatt Singapore Moments of More contest, where contestants recommend recreation activities/hidden gems in Singapore.

Initially created this original version but when it was time to submit, I realised the submission only accepted videos not more than 30 seconds, hence I had to cut down to 30 seconds for the official submission and why not post the original one here!

This video features some iconic buildings along the Orchard Heritage Trail curated by National Heritage Board. A relaxing stroll in the heart of the city to admire these nostalgic architectural facades is quite a nice way to unwind!

Embark on a gastronomic journey that's nothing short of extraordinary, with Pasta Bar’s Experience Menu! This uniquely curated 6-course dinner features some creative and absolutely delectable pasta dishes in various shapes and forms.

The moment you walk through the doors at Pasta Bar, the soft, warm lighting sets the cosy welcoming mood, juxtaposing with the bustling lively open kitchen, which allows diners to witness the artistry of their talented chefs as they craft each dish to perfection.

The menu starts with an amuse item, followed by a series of small dishes before the main course and concludes with desserts. Each pasta dish is a surprise on its own. Extremely creative in its presentations, cooking methods and combinations to bring out the best in every ingredient! This is not your typical pasta restaurant serving mundane common pasta, the experience menu definitely elevated the pasta game for me!

Step into a sweet time warp at "冰糖糖水办公室", the newest dessert haven that's taking us back to the funky 70s! Nestled in the quiet outskirts of the city at private residential estate Thomson Hills, this retro-themed dessert shop is a delightful fusion of nostalgia and culinary creativity.

As you enter its “office space”, you'll be transported to a vintage office setting, complete with typewriters, rotary phones, and classic desk accessories from the disco era. It's a trip down memory lane for those who remember the good ol' days, and a captivating journey for the younger crowd.

That is just one of the highlights of the shop. 冰糖糖水 sets itself apart with its commitment to crafting delectable sweets that are not only a treat for the taste buds but also for your health.

Their desserts are all made using rock sugar, eschewing artificial colorings and preservatives, making each bite a guilt-free indulgence. They've also added an innovative twist that will keep you coming back for more. And if you're looking for something savory, fret not, they offer a selection of light bites that perfectly complement the sweet experience.

Featured in the video is the Singaporean styled Lu Roy Fan, which is drenched in delicious braised minced meat sauce and the Osmanthus Tang Yuan, a refreshing take on the traditional Tang Yuan dessert. Ended the meal with 3 types of floral teas, fun and lightly scented fragrance!

Located at Wheelock Place just outside of Zall Bookstore, this new Nico Cafe outlet is the 2nd of its kind, branching out from its famous original cafe in Telok Kurau. The cafe is a delightful haven for those seeking a unique blend of floral and books aesthetics.

Stepping into the outdoor cafe feels like entering a botanical wonderland, with its lush floral arrangements adorning every corner. The ambience exudes a sense of serenity, making it the ideal spot for a leisurely afternoon escape from all the shopping along Orchard Road.

When it comes to food, Nico Cafe has some decent delectable sweet and savoury offerings. One of signature desserts, the Chocolate Overload soufflé pancake, is a chocolate lover's dream come true. This fluffy confection is artfully crafted with an assortment of chocolate in various forms, creating a sinful yet irresistible dessert masterpiece. Their coffee brûlée features a more acidic blend of rich coffee with a caramelized sugar top, to complete your sensory journey.

Missed the unveiling party of the mystery box outside of Mondrian Singapore Duxton last weekend and it turns out to be a beautiful gigantic KAWS sculpture!

Titled “What Party”, this 6-metre tall bronze figure is now a permanent feature welcoming travellers and visitors at the entrance of the hotel.

Had an idea to create this short video to feature this beautiful majestic KAWS addition to Mondrian Singapore Duxton, with quick glimpses of the Duxton locale, the hotel’s exterior, the dining and drinking options (Christina’s, Bottega di Carna, Jungle Ballroom and Canyon Club), hotel rooms followed by various KAWS collectibles.

Enjoy the short video!

Truly one of its kind, Lou Shang 楼上 by Mama Diam is a new cafe concept that sells cafe style food during the day, and cocktails during the night. But that is not what makes it unique, the cafe is designed to look like something that almost every Singaporean sees on a daily basis - a HDB corridor!

With the press of a HDB “lift button” to enter the cafe, diners are welcome to a familiar yet intriguing sight. The walls of the cafe is almost the exact replica of units of HDB apartments side by side, with many common elements of a HDB corridor, like shoe racks, decorations of different ethnic groups and other miscellaneous stuff we would put along the pathways.

The food there is a hit as well! Many of the items on the menu are fusion-ish in nature and with a little twist to make them interesting. Ordered the Pandan Kaya Latte, Rainbow Roti and Horlicks.

The latte is a unique take on traditional latte with a strong hint of Pandan fragrance and sweetness of gula melaka. The Rainbow Roti’s dipping sauce is such a fun to look at and taste and the Horlicks is a deserted moulded into the shape of a gigantic nostalgic tidbits that many locals love.

Pro tip: No reservations are allowed at the moment, so be prepared to wait for a table as the seats are limited. If you are there very early, most of the noodles and light bites items will not be available. So if you want to have a fuller meal, try going around lunch time.
