Absolutely huge state park! Beautiful with tons of open fields, wooded areas, and trails. Even a few historic sites. Main showers are decent. Bathroomm are very outdated. Decent campstore with ice cream. Game room, basketballl volleyball, multiple playgrounds. A fairly short bike ride to the beach. 30 minutes to Cedar Point. Marblehead is about 15 minutes away with tons of food and shops and a lighthouse.

Twin Lake State Park in the upper peninsula. The waterfront sites at the park look amazing. Great beach and tons of day use picnic/ grilling space. So many trails near by that it would take more than a couple days to ride on them all. We tried in our Rzr! Quite a few scenic spots and attractions along the routes as well.

Beautiful campground right on the river. To get a riverfront site I did book it in November 2020 and it was the last one available for our dates in June so book early!!
You can get in the river at one end of the campground and float to the other end or take a river trip with one of the nearby companies. We chose River Rat as they had a dog friendly option. https://smokymtnriverrat.com/.
Lots of scenic areas nearby. Our campground neighbors saw 15 bears at Cades Cove so we decided to go but saw only one cub in the far distance. We drove along the river and saw Meig Falls (you really have to look for it) in the distance then went to the sinks which are right by the road. If we wouldn’t have had the dogs we would’ve also visited Tuckaleechee Caverns. All of these things as well as several neat shops and restaurants were within 20 minutes of the campground. We chose to go with a more scenic trip versus amusement parks and the busy touristy areas.

General Burnside Island State Park, KY site 25

Beautiful area, huge park, but the sites varied greatly in quality. Ours was in a good location close to a short trail with a beautiful overlook but everything else about it was less than desirable. Lots or orange mud and trenches where people got stuck with their vehicles or RV’s. Lots of sites with drop offs on either side of the site so if you don’t back in perfectly you slide down a hill. We witnessed that twice with big equipment needed to pull them out. Many sites also had the fire pit and picnic table on the wrong side. This is a campground you need to be very thorough with researching your site to make your stay enjoyable.
Cumberland Falls was about 30 minutes away. It was gorgeous. Lots of viewing areas and dog friendly.

Site 100. Beautiful campground. Our site was great for campers with dogs, close to the fenced in area but also next to a large field. Staff were friendly and helpful. There were several sites in lower areas that were flooded so that’s something to think about.

We were on site 87.
The campsites we thought were the best based on the views, size, and how level they are:
35, 39, and 40. These are overlooking the lake from a level up. You have to access the beach by using a set of stairs then walking a short distance.
82 and 84 are decent sized and right on the lake.
84a and 78 are right on the lake but are really small. Best suited for a tent or really small camper.
87 and 88 are right across from the beach.
We also went to the Port Austin Farmers Market- https://portaustinarea.com/about-the-farmers-market/
There were a lot of vendors and it was a really neat area. Don't miss Waterfront park right nearby- https://www.portaustinoutdooradventure.com/veterans-waterfront-park/
Just down from the campground the opposite way as Port Austin is Sandy Dunes Adventure golf. The most beautiful miniature golf course we have been too and what an assortment of ice cream they have! http://www.sandydunesadventuregolf.net/
