DIOCLETIAN'S PALACE
- an ancient palace built for the Roman emperor Diocletian at the turn of the fourth century AD, which today forms about half the old town of Split, Croatia.
While it is referred to as a "palace" because of its intended use as the retirement residence of Diocletian, the term can be misleading as the structure is massive and more resembles a large fortress:
about half of it was for Diocletian's personal use, and the rest housed the military garrison.
In 1970 this palace was included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.
The North Gate(Golden Gate): Originally the Main gate from which the Emperor entered the complex.
The East Gate(Silver Gate)
The West Gate(Iron Gate): Originally a military gate from which troops entered the complex
The South Gate(Bronze Gate): Originally a sea gate from which the Emperor entered the complex by boat.

PLITVICE LAKES NATIONAL PARK - Photo dump
The lake system is the result of millennia of ongoing geological and biochemical processes creating natural dams known as tufa barriers.
The tufa barriers themselves provide habitat for diverse and highly specialized communities of non-vascular plants. Brown Bear, Grey Wolf and Lynx along with many rare species roam the forests, while the meadows are known for their rich flora.
The national park was founded in 1949. Each year, more than 1 million visitors are recorded.
Located at a 1.5 hrs from Zadar - 118 kms and 2.5 hrs from Zagreb and Split.
The two largest lakes, Prošćansko jezero and Lake Kozjak, cover about 80 percent of the overall water body area. These lakes are also the deepest, with a depth of 37 and 47 metres.
The highest waterfalls are the Veliki slap at the end of the Lower Lakes, over which the Plitvica river falls, and Veliki Prstavac at the Upper Lakes.
Entry ticket 40 Euros.

PLITVICE LAKES NATIONAL PARK
The 295-sq.-km forest reserve in central Croatia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's known for a chain of 16 terraced lakes, joined by waterfalls, that extend into a limestone canyon.
Walkways and hiking trails wind around and across the water, and an electric boat links the 12 upper and 4 lower lakes.
Croatia's largest national park covering almost 30,000 hectares/ 73350 acres. Interconnected by many waterfalls and watercourses above and below ground, the lakes are grouped into the upper and lower lakes.
