Discussion 1 of making trials better:

Below are some of the most popular points that are mentioned in the google form. All points below are mentioned by trials riders and people involved in trials. I will explain publish more things mentioned every few days from now for us all to have a discussion in the comments

What’s good about trials:

•The social aspect of trials
•The atmosphere
•The ability to be able to ride almost every weekend
•The variety of venue and terrain

What needs more attention:

•Encouraging observers
•The rules of trials, stop and no stop, marking and more. ( if you don’t know I have published a video explaining the rules of trials for new riders and observers. This is the link https://youtu.be/vlnVitXLcNk?si=u8M1_7vQHYeJpTTP
•Club level promotion
•Youth rider support

What needs to change in trials:

•Flag colours need to be the same across the country (don’t make the route colours recommended as it says in the acu handbook)
•Electric bikes to have their own class
•All trials in any competition to be ran stop allowed
•Intermediate to be its own class/route (flag colours) in club and championship events and 50/50 becomes white/yellow as it’s more of a suitable gap. Yellow to expert can be too much of a gap

I’ve made this google form to make the riders and those involved heard and to try and make trials better. I’m not aiming any negativity to any organisation or club at all. This is all to make the sport we love better in the long run. More points to be posted on Tuesday. 👍

Tonight I’ll be posting the first 5 points made on the questionnaire that I published.

The aim of this is for people to discuss the points mentioned and possible come up with suggestions on how to improve them.

Additionally I’ll also be adding 5 points that people are happy with in trials. Points made in the questionnaire I’ll be printing off and saving to try and get higher up and start to get the wheel turning for change in these areas.

Keep your eyes out about 4/5pm tonight

Want to know the rules of trials or how to observe? Then the video below can help you with that. This video includes the basics of trials and the things you’ll need to know. I haven’t gone to deep into every rule otherwise you’d get confused, but I’ve included the ones that matter.

I’ve mainly made this video for clubs to use to help observers or show new riders that turn up to their events. So please tag as many clubs down below so they know they can use it on their website or facebook.

Hope you find this video useful 👍SHARE AROUND!!

91 responses upto yet and some really good points being made. Next week I’ll write out some of the most popular and re occurring responses to post and for people to discuss.

By doing this I hope to get views on them and possibly solutions and ideas that could help improve trials down the line as these are all from riders and club organisers. The ones who matter !

Loads of answers coming in for the questionnaire which is brilliant. One topic keeps popping up though and I have my thoughts on it and how to possibly fix it. Please comment below if you agree or disagree or ways you think it could improve

Topic 1: youth progression from 80-125cc and 125cc -250cc
My proposal to help this

- when a rider is 1 year away from being able to move up to a larger cc class they get the option to take a test to prove they are capable of moving up

-they could pay maybe £20 and would be told to go to a trial of practice day in their centre where a acu committee member would be there to monitor the test.

- the test would include them riding the cc bike they want to move up on but have to meet specific standard, whcih could be the following:

•Show that you can start the bike on your own

•show you are capable of picking the bike up off the ground and getting back on

•ride a section in 1st,2nd and 3rd to show you can handle the power

•be able to touch the ground with feet flat on the floor while stood over the bike

-after taking this test and they pass, they would be able to love up a class a year and cc early but also fill out a form saying they’re taking this test and are responsible for moving up early.

Any thoughts on this are helpful 👍

My main aim within in trials is to make the sport better for everyone but also get the coverage it deserves from the top events down to your average club trial.

That is why I’ve created a google form/questionnaire below to get peoples thoughts on trials as a whole and in their centre. There’s not many questions but it helps you get your thoughts on things you like within trials but also things you want improving or changing and I will try to get these thoughts and opinions heard. At the end of the day it’s the riders and organisers that make up this sport whose opinions matter. If you want a physical copy to fill in when you see me at trials too then feel free ask.

Looking into all the rules for the new video and I’m hearing that the stalking your bike rule may be changing. Could anyone give me a definitive answer to what it’s being changed too?

I’ve heard that if you stall and dab then it’ll just count as a dab now but I can’t get my head round that actually being a rule😂. I can see the benefits in youth for kids who ride petrol competing against electrics but I see not stalling your bike as a skill you have to learn in trials.

Furthermore larger events should electric not be in their own class such as the championships? Because another issue I see is changing the power settings on some electric bikes. This could give youth riders an advantage in sections by doing this.

Any thoughts please comment below

A new and hopefully helpful video coming out sometime this week. A visual guide to what trials is and the rules for people to look at. Sometimes it’s hard getting your head round some rules when you have to read it or have someone explain it to you. In this video I’ll explain as much of the basics as I can with a visual example along with it. Hopefully this video can be something that new competitors to the sport can look at but also clubs to use and direct people too in order to give them a helping hand.

Any rules you’d like explaining feel free to comment below and I’ll try and cover them and I hope you all enjoy the concept👍

With the new changes to the women’s championships I thought I’d give me thoughts on positives and negatives to the decision. Let me know any of yours in the comments below

Positives:
-catching up and doing what other affiliations do around the world
-bringing more attention to the girls through a bigger crowd
-getting them used to a professional format
-support from more riders men and women
-sponsorship opportunities for the girls
-the excitement of the professionalism that trial gb brings
-ability of riders being pushed
-possible less traveling (if you have son and daughter in the right classes)
-more simple and less busy class format

Negatives:
-possible rise of entry fee?
-higher possible traveling cost
-some riders not being able to compete in any women’s championship at all now
-younger riders don’t have the older ladies to look up to anymore
-youth classes being split means more traveling if you have kids in different classes
-youth boys also don’t have higher class riders to look upto anymore
-difficult for clubs to set sections in youth and trial gb
-possibly not being able to drop a round? Not sure what the rules are with this

Let me know your thoughts below. Always best to look at positives and negatives

Mansfield mauns trial next week at Bracken rocks will have an additional route. This is the Elite route and is for any expert riders wanting more of a challenge so we don’t put our club level riders off doing the expert route. It won’t be in every section but there will be a deviation route through atleast half the trial l. Hope to see you all there 👍
