This is precisely what Aisha told us about her early experiences while living in the UK after moving from Zimbabwe.

There's no better way to get through Tuesday than to look back at some old baby pictures of your little ones and reflect on how much they've grown up since then.

Moashella has four children, aged between 7 and 26. When we chatted to her a few weeks ago, she said, "I find that that can it be very beneficial to the kind of work that I do because I can relate to young adults, teenagers, preteens, and I have a really good understanding of younger children as well. I feel like it's something that keeps me young. I'm a cool mom because I know it all."
Moashella is a busy mum and now dedicates her time to working with teachers and educators, helping them to create spaces in which children and young adults can have the best learning environment. It's no surprise that she finds having children of all ages helpful and inspiring.
As she puts it, "I know all of the current trends, and even the music, from 21 Savage to piano!"
BE PROUD
We love seeing children being confident and proud of who they are. Ember loves showing off her beautiful Afro. We can tell she's going to be a style queen when she's older!
BE HAPPY
When we spoke with Mashia, she told us how important it is for her and her husband to raise happy children. She said, "We didn't have specific ways on how we will do this, but it's always been the point we come back to."

Where did the weekend go?
Just like Ember, we can see the weekend coming to an end and Monday soon approaching.
At Yyoma, we always see Sunday's as a perfect opportunity to reflect on how the week has been and take the time to plan the week ahead.
Bringing a sense of structure and organisation to our children's lives can help them get the most out of each day, leading to a more fulfilled childhood.
So this Sunday, take a few moments with your little ones to look back at the past week and share what next week will look like.
We started Yyoma because we felt that children of ethnic minorities lacked representation in media, which is proven to negatively impact understanding of identity and self esteem.
When we sat down with Peléna, she told us about how school and culture made her doubt who she was, and it wasn't only until she was in her 20s that she started to appreciate her heritage.
Our mission at Yyoma is to instil a sense of identity in children as early as possible; giving them the confidence to walk through life with a strong sense of who they are.

Every child should be incredibly proud of who they are. We are all unique in our way, and we should embrace our differences every day of the week.
We are busy curating content for children that leads them to understand and celebrate differences in themselves and others.

SIBLING LOVE
We love seeing siblings hanging out and experiencing new things together. Whether it's a walk in the park or watching a movie, quality time spent between two siblings can strengthen their bond and make them feel loved.
What's your favourite memory with your siblings?
It was so lovely to see that Moashella sees her children as a source of motivation.
One of the things that inspire us the most about children is their limitless nature. We love how children see no limits in what they achieve, and we try and to emulate that in our daily lives as much as possible.
What inspires you the most about being a parent?
Who else can relate?
When we spoke with Milly, she pointed out that other peoples' lack of awareness caused confusion within herself. This can often be the case when you are a minority, and those around you have little to no understanding of your culture and background. At a young age, it can lead to a considerable lack of confidence and self-worthiness.
We believe that every child should be able to be themselves without questioning who they are or why they are a certain way. Every child should thrive in their uniqueness.
When we sat down with Afia to discuss parenting, she highlighted the importance of representation in her children's lives.
This is precisely the problem that we're trying to solve at Yyoma. We are building a streaming platform for children that is diverse, inclusive and representatives. We want children from all walks of life to identify with what they see on their screens.

Saturday 3rd April
When we sat down with Rudo a few weeks ago to discuss parenting, she explained to us how sleep is a routine that’s taken very seriously in her house.
As a mental health therapist, Rudo explained that a lack of sleep can negativly affect our children’s behaviours. At her house, her two year olds son’s evening routine starts at 6:30PM and 8PM is bedtime.
We were really excited to hear Rudo speak about her commitment to her son’s sleep because it’s something that we feel passionately about too.
While we’ve been building our new platform, sleep has been a big topic of discussion and we’re pleased to let you guys know that the new platform will feature a specific section for bedtime stories to help you get your little ones to sleep!

Meet Rudo. She is mother to this beautiful 2-year-old boy and currently lives in the US after moving from Zimbabwe 11 years ago. Whilst she was studying with a mind set on pharmacy, Rudo got involved in psychological and social work, which she found incredibly fulfilling and eventually ended up pursuing this professionally. She now has a private practice and so her hard work ethic came as no surprise when we learned that she was pregnant while studying for her doctorate!
We started by asking Rudo what kind of upbringing she is trying to give her son. “Transparency and honesty. An environment where a child can feel safe to talk about anything. With my experience as a therapist, I expect my son to be open and transparent with me, but I should also be responsible for that transparency. I need to make sure that when he comes up to me and shares a problem with me, I’m not constantly going to bring that problem up against him or give him some consequences just for sharing.”
Comparing her own upbringing to her children’s, Rudo says that it’s all about compromise. “There are things that I absolutely adore about our culture and our upbringing because those things I’ve realised have made us the way we are.”
“We are having a lot of problems in our Zimbabwean communities here in the US. A lot of our adolescent teens are getting into so many different things and starting to have unmanaged behaviour, some of them even ending up in juvenile prisons. But if you talk to a lot of them, they feel like their parents are not understanding which almost leads me to thinking that these are some of the African parents trying to parent the way they were parented. But clearly, it’s not working. “
“If I’m being a truthful and a wise parent, I have to realise that my son was born in a different environment that is not the same as the environment that I was brought up. So, if I take that parenting approach and apply it word for word with my son, it might not be effective.”
Happy Saturday! Earlier this week Andre told us how much he misses hanging out with his friends so we thought we’d share this picture in to remind him that he’ll be able to see his friends again and play very soon.
