Majority of Nigerian states have confirmed their commissioner nominees and ofcourse the federal government too has done same as well.
My question Is,with the names seen so far,is there a hope of an ordinary Nigerian to become a commissioner or Minister??

This kind of program embarked upon by the ministry of humanitarian affairs can be tagged as a big fraud and a show of cluelessness of what needs of people is about.
To start with, this is a project that should be done by a NGO or a a subsector under a local government not a whole federal government ministry.
It is an insult really,to even think this was documented and posted on social media???oh no!!
If asked after Four years of this show of shame, you'll be amazed by the number of billions of naira they will have said has went into this kind of show!
What happen to building a very decent primary health care facility for this people?
What happen to building a decent primary and secondary school for this people?
What happen to building a decent housing for this people?
What happen to engaging this people in agriculture instead of this show or drama?
Well,we will get there as a country one day that I am sure of.

Russia’s President Signs Into Law Bill Forcing Twitter, Facebook To Open Offices In Russia To Control Internet.

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has signed a law that obliges foreign social media giants to open offices in Russia.

This was disclosed on Thursday, in a document published by the government showing the latest move by Moscow to exert greater control over Big Tech.

The Russian authorities had since made known their intention to strengthen the control of the internet and to reduce their dependence on foreign companies and countries.

Moscow had particularly, in the past, objected to political opponents of the Kremlin using foreign social media platforms to organize what they say are illegal protests and to publicize politically-tinged investigations into alleged corruption.

Reports said Moscow had fined firms for failing to delete content it says is illegal, slowing down the speed of Twitter as punishment, while on Wednesday, it opened a new case against Alphabet, a subsidiary of Google for breaching personal data legislation.

“A foreign entity, carrying out activities on the internet in Russia, is obliged to create a branch, open an office or establish a Russian legal entity,” the new law said.

Alexander Khinshtein, the head of the information policy and IT committee at the State Duma, Russia’s lower house of parliament, had been reported as saying, the law applied to internet giants with a daily audience in Russia of at least 500,000 people.

The firms must register a personal account on the website of Roskomnadzor, Russia’s state communications regulator, Khinshtein wrote on his Telegram channel.

He also informed that companies that violate the legislation could face penalties such as advertising bans.

Recalled Russia has gone after social media companies that fail to delete content Moscow deems illegal quickly enough.

Facebook, Google, Telegram and Twitter all have court hearings scheduled for later this month with new charges.

Reports said the new law potentially affects 20 companies, including retailers and e-commerce companies.

Ndi Igbo stand for One Nigeria

By Fredrick Nwabufo -July 4, 2021

Late Odumegwu Ojukwu, Igbo Leader and former Biafran Warlord Ndi Igbo stand for One Nigeria, by Fredrick Nwabufo The vocal minority will always have their say, but the silent majority will have their way.

Nevertheless, it is capricious to let the pesky minority govern and dominate the narrative. A solitary story by a negligible decimal could be held as the belief and view of the bulk. This is why the silent Igbo majority who are opposed to the secessioning of the south-east from Nigeria need to speak up. We cannot discount the perils, ills and concomitants of the civil war. But it has been 51 years since the end of the war, and the Igbo have built back better and stronger. We people every corner of Nigeria and have made where we settled our home. It is customary to find an Igbo native who can speak Hausa and Yoruba fluently – even much better than their indigenous tongue. A united Nigeria remains a viable emporium for the enterprising Igbo. With enduring resilience we have made magic out of the ordinary and turned dust into gold in the places we have settled. Whether in the north or in the south, we dominate commerce. We have forged bonds and made families with host communities. We have crossed bloodlines and have nourished our gene-pool with the rich ancestry of other peoples of Nigeria. We have become aboriginal Nigerians. It gladdened me when the Igbo Delegate Assembly said in June they are opposed to the breakaway of the south-east from Nigeria. The Igbo leaders from the 19 northern states declared that there is a new tribe – The Northern Igbo. This melange of Igbo whose histories have become intertwined and many others with roots in the south-east and even resident there are in the majority.

Really, there is a new and only tribe – the aboriginal Nigerian; a cross-genetic breed. Those crusading for the secession of the south-east today are deficient students of history and sociology. Even the late Odumegwu Ojukwu, the captain of the secessionist struggle during the war, regretted that devastating episode in our history. Ojukwu said: ‘’I don’t think the second war is necessary. We should have learnt from the first one.”

There is no victory in war; only pain, blood and death. Nobody should provoke another war in Igbo land. Ndi Igbo must not let the vocal minority drown them out. They must speak up and be heard. At the weekend, I had a robust conversation on Nigeria and the south-east with some friends. It jogged something in me. While the claims of marginalisation by Ndi Igbo cannot be brushed off, Nigeria has not been all grim for the Igbo. The Igbo are perhaps the most financially fortunate of all groups in Nigeria. I recall, under the Jonathan administration, the Igbo ruled the commanding heights of the economy. They peopled strategic places in the government. In fact, the Jonathan administration was passed off as an Igbo government, and rightly so. What we did with that opportunity will be discussed in subsequent columns. But Nigeria has not been all ash and sackcloth for Ndi Igbo. And who says we cannot seek justice and fairness within Nigeria? Operating in a democracy affords us several vehicles to realise whatever we seek – within the orbit of the constitution.

But our pursuit of equity must not come with bloodshed. It must not be at the cost of precious human lives. So, in our discussion, we idealised the possibility of a movement to drive the quiet thoughts of the silent Igbo majority. That is, a non-partisan and strictly ideological platform to mobilise Igbo voices and consciences for a united Nigeria and to counter secessionist narratives. We came up with the concept of ‘Ndi Igbo for One Nigeria’. Yes, Ndi Igbo stand for One Nigeria. Our voices should be louder than those who seek to divide us. I believe many are reluctant to speak up for fear of violence. I have been threatened many times for my views, but my belief in a united Nigeria is stronger than my fear. Should we remain reticent by fit of fear and watch our years of hard work tumble down? Do we keep our hands suspended in the air while our kith and kin are slaughtered in avoidable violence?

The silent Igbo majority need to speak up. It is an existential struggle for us and our children. We need to rise and take a stand. Nigeria belongs to us and every other Nigerian. We must hold the fort. ‘Ndi Igbo for One Nigeria’ berths and our voices against secessionist agitations just got louder.

Full text of the speech by President Buhari during his meeting with Elders from the Niger Delta and the leadership of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), at the Presidential Villa, on Friday, June 25, 2021:

*

“I warmly welcome all the Elders of the Niger Delta and particularly the National Executive of the Ijaw National Congress, under the leadership of Professor Benjamin Okaba. I thank you for paying this courtesy visit not too long after your election in April, and swearing-in last May.

“I also want to congratulate you all for your election and to add that a lot of responsibility is placed on your shoulders, especially coming from the fact that the Ijaw National Congress was almost without leadership for some time.

“As the symbol of the collective voice of the Ijaw people, which is one of Nigeria’s main ethnic groups, the existence of a focused and people oriented leadership would go a long way in articulating the demands of the Ijaw people and making sure these demands are made part of the national discourse.

“I particularly note your ten point demand to the Federal Government in your inaugural speech and assure you that this administration is frontally addressing them.

“I am equally concerned about the rate of environmental degradation in the Niger Delta and as you are aware the HydroCarbon Pollution Remediation Project has started work with remediation efforts in Ogoni land and I have directed the Minister of Environment to ensure that the projects are implemented with a high percentage of local content and inclusion of the surrounding communities.

“Similarly, the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency, under the same ministry of Environment is working to make sure that oil spills are reduced and new ones prevented. As you are also aware, all the responsible agencies of government have been directed to ensure that they enforce compliance by the International Oil Companies to international best practices.

“In addressing your call for immediate restructuring, the National Assembly whose responsibility it is to ensure that our constitution responds to the call for a restructured Nigeria, has already concluded regional consultations and as soon as they finalise the process, necessary action would not be delayed on my part.

“In the same vein, your call for creation of two additional states and more local government areas for the Ijaw people is a legislative matter, which should naturally be handled by the National Assembly and seeking concurrence at the state levels.

“I completely agree with your call to allocate operational licenses for marginal fields to Ijaw people. However, like you know, the process of granting licenses is guided by laid down rules and regulations, most of which even favour local content and local contractors. I see no reason why they should not be granted such licenses if they qualify.

“On the issue of fair and balanced appointments to reflect federal character principles, I re-affirm that this has always been my focus and would continue to be because I have always seen Nigeria as a country where everyone should be given equal opportunities.

“A contentious issue that has been a subject of discourse amongst the Ijaw people of recent has been the need for the Niger Delta Development Commission to live up to its billing by delivering the required succour to the people of the region. Based on the mismanagement that had previously be-devilled the NDDC, a forensic audit was set up and the result is expected by the end of July, 2021.

“I want to assure you that as soon as the forensic audit report is submitted and accepted, the NDDC Board would be inaugurated. However, I would like to implore you that the Ijaw National Congress should play a more active role in making sure that the mismanagement that occurred in the past is not repeated.

“I am particularly happy to note your call for promoting ownership of modular refineries by the Ijaw people and I will urge you to interphase with your sons who are involved in the processes of establishing these refineries, especially the Honourable Minister of State Petroleum Resources to actualize this quest.

“Like you well know, completion of the East-West Road is top on my infrastructure agenda and I will look to its speedy conclusion. Again, the occasional disturbance by youths in some communities along the route to construction work would require your close attention and guidance.

“Furthermore, we have made considerable progress with the construction of the Bonny to Port Harcourt Bridge.

“I am very happy with the recent affirmation of your belief in a United Nigeria and while I thank you for standing with me, I will also implore you to use your leverage in making sure that we keep working together to keep this country a united, indivisible entity, so that we can tackle our problems together and overcome our challenges together.

“I would like now to commend Professor Okaba for your emphasis on supporting the fight against insecurity by developing internal control mechanisms as well as working with other institutions in the country to address our current security challenges.

“While I thank you once more for this visit and I will continue to count on your support as we work towards resolving our current challenges.

“God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Kwara state Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq today commission the Kwara state polytechnic auditorium which was initiated by the late former Governor Lawal administration.
This was made known through his official Facebook handle....................
Today, we completed and commissioned the twenty-year-old expansive fully air-conditioned Kwara State Polytechnic auditorium initiated by the late former Governor Mohammed Lawal. It underscores our commitment to ensure that all abandoned projects funded with tax-payers would be fixed in phases and as resources permit.

The construction of this auditorium started over 19 years ago. It got stalled on the altar of politics of who conceived what. In 2019, I pledged not to let Kwara be a mortuary of abandoned projects. The commissioning of this facility is therefore a fulfilment of that pledge.

God willing, we will do our best to complete all abandoned projects as resources may permit. This is because allowing them to rot away is a waste of public funds already invested in the projects and an abuse of public trust. As we have funded this auditorium to a befitting completion, projects like the Osi and Ilesha Baruba campuses of Kwara State University, which we inherited, will be funded to completion. Ours is developmental politics.

Similarly, I am glad to announce to you that I have approved another round of scholarships to boost the morale of our hard-working students. The Ministry of Tertiary Education will give the details in subsequent communications.

I urge our students and youths to reciprocate our investments in education and other areas of human capital development by being good ambassadors to their respective homes and our state.

Congratulations Kwarans!

Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu launched seven new boats for the Lagos State Ferry service.

He made this known on his official profile on Facebook.
......................................

Today, we launched seven new high capacity boats for the Lagos State Ferry Services to expand water transportation and provide more commuting option for Lagosians.

With the new boats LAGFERRY can now move 710 commuters per trip.

The impressive performance of LAGFERRY in the last one year is an indication of the growing confidence of residents in water transportation. This justifies our decision to procure additional boats to enhance operations and the capacity to meet the transportation demands of the people.

The procurement of these new high-capacity boats is in fulfillment of our promise to double the number of boats in the fleet of LAGFERRY and reduce traffic congestion on our roads.

We also launched the Cowry Card for water transportation to create a seamless payment scheme for our Multimodal Transportation System, which is gradually taking shape as we have commenced the integration of our rail lines, bus terminals and waterways.

I am pleased to inform you that we are already witnessing positive outcomes from our investment in the safety and viability of our waterways as a safe alternative to road transportation.

I assure you all that we will continue to support private sector participation in water transportation by putting in place the most appropriate regulatory framework for high returns on investment.

We have significantly upgraded the capacity of our regulatory agency, LASWA, to adequately cater for the needs of passengers with safety being our topmost objective.

After 317 days of operations, LAGFERRY has ferried over 524,000 passengers through the waterways with an increasing daily average passenger flow of over 1,500.

Unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed Kogi State Commissioner for Pensions, Solomon Adebayo, along Kabba – Ilorin highway in the state.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday night while travelling to the Kabba area from Ilorin.
It was gathered that the gunmen opened fire on Solomon Adebayo, Governor Yahaya Bello’s pension’s commissioner vehicle, along the road, killing him on the spot while severely wounding his driver.Though, our reporter was unclear whether the attackers made away with any of the victims’ belongings.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State police Command confirmed the incident.
Kogi police spokesman, William Ayah, said the assailants opened fire on Mr Adebayo’s vehicle along the road, killing him on the spot while severely wounding his driver.
“The police said an investigation would be carried out to track and arrest those behind the deadly assault. It was unclear whether the attackers made away with any of the victims’ belongings.
“The driver, whose name was not immediately disclosed, was taken to ECWA Hospital Egbe alongside others injured in the attack. The slain commissioner’s remains were also deposited here”.
The killing of Mr Adebayo, Akeweje of Eri Land in Kogi, was being mourned across the state as the news trickled out overnight.
It came as pressure was being mounted on President Muhammadu Buhari to address a growing security crisis that has complicated economic activities and left vast swathes of ungoverned areas in the hands of bandits, kidnappers and insurgents.
A meeting of Mr Buhari and his national security chiefs ended in a stalemate on Friday night after some of the chiefs failed to prepare sufficient rundown over the crisis to the president, NSA Babagana Monguno said in a statement.

27/04/2021

Yesterday, Nigeria experienced one of the saddest days in recent memory. All in one day, from Anambra State to Kaduna, Yobe, Niger, and Lagos States, critical insecurity issues were recorded and reported. Hour after hour; breaking news after breaking news, we saw numerous unacceptable reports of violence, kidnapping, terrorism, and the systematic breakdown of law and order in many parts of the nation. This should not be so.

We read reports of Boko Haram hoisting up its flag in Niger State, in Shiroro LGA that houses one of Nigeria’s largest power stations — and is just about 200 kilometres from our federal capital. We also read the statement of the Niger State governor, where he expressed how helpless the government has become, and how thousands of people have been displaced in his state. He also lamented how the efforts of the federal government have not yielded concrete results.

We also received sad and disturbing reports that Mainok, a town on the Damaturu-Maiduguri highway was invaded on Sunday by the insurgents who unabashedly went on a killing spree — targeting our brave soldiers and innocent civilians alike. Nine people were said to have been killed by hoodlums that invaded Ukpomachi Village, Awkuzu in Oyi LGA of Anambra State.

In Kaduna State, two more innocent students that were kidnapped from Greenfield University were killed by their abductors. While, an unspecified number of students have now been abducted from the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, in Benue State. All in one day. All within a 24-hour news cycle. This cannot continue. This cannot become Nigeria’s new normal.

Before giving my comment, I want to state that as we reel from the multiple tragedies, my family and I will continue to pray for all the affected families and communities. We will lend them our full support as we all bind together to get past this difficult time. May God grant them the fortitude and the strength that they need to withstand this difficult and sad period.

However, it is obvious that President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) government need help. They have been overwhelmed by the situation and they sure need assistance from all. Thus, I urge Mr. President to seek help wherever it can be given. This matter has gone beyond what the government can handle alone. The President should know that calling for help in our present situation is not a sign of weakness.

Just as I stated in my press statement on the same issue on January 24, 2021, I want to reiterate that the President needs to bring together all former Presidents and heads of state, serving and former chief justices, serving and former presiding officers of the National Assembly, serving and former heads of security agencies, traditional rulers with relevant experience, leaders of the private sector, development partners, friends of Nigeria in the international community and all others who can help in finding solutions to the problem at hand.

The meeting must hold expeditiously and must be followed by immediate actions. I know there are many people who believe that the fact that this suggestion is coming from a source outside government is a good reason for the President to ignore it. I think the attitude this time around must be different. This is definitely not a time for partisanship or for people to play politics with the lives of the citizenry and the future of the country.

Security of lives and properties is the first and most important duty of government and it must be taken seriously. My suggestion here is an appeal made out of genuine concern with what is going on in our dear country.

More importantly, in the democracy that we practice, the institution charged with holding the executive accountable is the legislature. In this regard, I strongly call on my colleagues in the National Assembly to be more assertive in finding solutions to this issue of insecurity. l need to make it clear that they will not be helping the administration if they do not become more insistent and decisive in their approach to getting this security crisis tackled immediately. Doing this cannot be logically interpreted as antagonising the executive. Just as treating the issue in a mild manner does not amount to co-operation. They must stand up and put Nigeria first before any other consideration. It is by doing this that they can genuinely help both the government and their constituents.

The leaders of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) also have a vital role to play. They must do all that is necessary to help the administration to get solutions to this national crisis. This is a time for them to be part of the search for the solution and getting the government to act swiftly in implementing good ideas that will return the country to normalcy and the path of genuine development.

Even those of us in the opposition party recognise the fact we can only exist if we continue to have a country. Thus, we are willing to cooperate with the government in finding solutions to this problem. Our former leaders, I am sure, are ready, willing, and able to assist the government with their wealth of experience. With their active role in combating the COVID-19 crisis, even the private sector has shown that if called upon, at any time and on any issue, it is ready to help solve this crisis. Our friends in the international community, have also demonstrated their willingness to help us out.

However, all these actors will not jump into the arena without the government facilitating their intervention. The government needs to call on them before this problem consumes all of us.

At this point, words and press statements are not enough. We need to see action. I appeal to Mr. President to take the bull by the horn. He should act to stem the tide of this violence threatening to tear the country apart.

Signed:

Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki
Immediate-past President of the Senate

WILD JUBILATION IN ONDO OVER AKEREDOLU’S VICTORY AT ELECTION PETITION TRIBUNAL

There has been wild jubilation across Ondo State since the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Akure, the state capital, upheld the victory of the state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, in the October 10, 2021 election.

The tribunal on Tuesday dismissed the petition of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, for lack of merit and for being fundamentally defective.

Elated by the judgement of the Tribunal, the people of the state have been trooping out enmass to celebrate the victory of Governor Akeredolu who they voted overwhelmingly in the last governorship election.

At the Government House gate, Alagbaka, Akure, the Governor’s convoy was stopped by a highly elated crowd of people who stormed the government house ground to rejoice with their Governor.

They were singing various songs of praises to God for giving the day to the Governor, adding that it was a victory for all the people of the state.

At Emure Junction, the Governor’s convoy was also stopped by visibly jubilant people who welcome him into his hometown, Owo, with songs, pomp and pageantry.

The joyful crowd followed the convoy to the residence of Governor Akeredolu in Owo, where they danced and sang to various songs in expression of their joy over the victory of the governor at the tribunal.
