Presenting fan favourite and Purple Session vet: J.Rez

J.Rez is a Filipino-Canadian Rapper/Songwriter/Mental Health Advocate born and raised in Winnipeg, MB. At 7 years old, J.Rez found his passion for songwriting and rapping. His older sisters use to print out Eminem lyrics for him to rap to, which would come to be his biggest inspiration sonically. Fast forward to 21, J.Rez made the move to Vancouver by himself to pursue his life long passion to make music his career. Since being in Vancouver, J.Rez has worked in multiple music studios with an extensive list of recognizable producers and artists in the local Vancouver scene. J.Rez has also performed all across the mainland, from opening up for Madchild of Swollen Members to showcasing for RAW Vancouver at Celebrities Nightclub. Melodic Mondays, Tropic Bounce Presents, Roots & Rhymes also have all seen the energy J.Rez brings to every performance. J.Rez’ ultimate goal is to effect positive change in his listeners/ community’s lives whether it’d be through self reflection or external perspective whilst staying true to his roots and artistry.

This is an appreciation post to all y’all who came out to our events this year and made them so special to be a part of 💜

None of us had a clue how the Purple Sessions would turn out when we started up in this space. Six events later, and we’re all beyond stoked where it all ended up. We love you all so much!

Purple Sessions 6 was a riot, and it was our final event *IN THIS LOCATION* — so stay tuned, as we move the studio at the end of the month, we will start prepping for Purple Sessions 7 in the new space. And we can not wait to see all your beautiful faces again 🙂

Hey everyone, we are very very sad to let you know that Purple Session Vol. 6 is being POSTPONED (damn you covid, leave us alone). Due to some recent illness in our circle, we feel that it is safest to reschedule the show for early/mid August (exact date TBD). We are so sad we won't get to put on this show for you tomorrow.....but also get ready for something extra special as we have a whole extra month to prepare a spectacle for you guys. SEE YOU VERY SOON

This past weekend, Ryan and I had the opportunity to work with as recording engineers for the festival! What an awesome experience being able to see what goes on behind the scenes at such an amazing event. Thanks again for having us along 💜
Now that we are home, it’s time to get ready for Purple Sessions 6, which is happening this Friday, July 15th featuring our own tunes ( and .neon.sound ) and the hyper talented .lune ! This is gonna be the final show at the basement, as we have to move by the end of the summer, so come party one final time 🤘🏼

“Ella G is a Filipino R&B artist, writer, and audio engineer. Born in Cebu, Philippines, she immigrated to Canada at 9 years old after moving around frequently due to her family seeking a better life. She has been a musician since an early age, and is heavily inspired by artists such as Lauryn Hill, Jazmine Sullivan, Whitney Houston, and 90's R&B groups such as Destiny's Child and Boyz II Men. Her music and inspiration behind her artistry is heavily driven by a passion for intersectionality and liberation for all oppressed minorities. She is an anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist community organizer and is a Tropic Bounce Music Group affiliated artist”

The studio feels weird without you guys in it! And we can’t wait to fill it up with all of your amazing energies again. For the meantime though, we’re forced to postpone our Purple Sessions events until the current COVID-19 situation improves.
