(RIL) could be the next engine of growth for the oil-to-telecom conglomerate, according to global brokerage and research firm Goldman Sachs. In a report this week, analysts at Goldman Sachs said that the retail EBITDA could grow 10x over the next 10 years. “During the macro downturn, RIL has focused on building strong digital capabilities and we believe the scale-up in omnichannel offering is driving sizeable market share wins. We see a six-fold increase in grocery organized retail pe*******on in India by FY30, coupled with 15% market share gain for RIL,” the report added. Mukesh Ambani’s RIL currently holds a 41.5% market share in organised retail space.

Jio and Google will roll out one of the most affordable 4G smartphones on September 10, and expand their partnership to power 5G solutions in enterprise and consumer segments, the firms announced on Thursday.

 
This builds on the year-old strategic partnership that resulted in Google acquiring 7.7 per cent stake in Jio Platforms.
 
The smartphone, known as JioPhone Next, supports the entire suite of applications from Google and Jio and is powered by an optimised version of the Android Operating System developed for India, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani said at the annual general meeting.

Tata Group founder Jamsetji Tata has topped the EdelGive Hurun Philanthropists of the Century. Emerging as the biggest philanthropist globally over the last 100 years, Jamsetji Tata donated $102 billion, according to a list of top-50 readied by Hurun Report and EdelGive Foundation.

The report pegs the current value of total donations, mainly made to boost education and healthcare, at $102.4 billion.

Jamsetji Tata is the only Indian in the top 10 list, followed by Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates, Henry Wellcome, Howard Hughes, and Warren Buffett.

They wear their underwear, gym clothes and everything else until they can’t take the filth and stink anymore, then junk them.

NASA wants to change that – if not at the International Space Station, then at the moon and Mars – and stop throwing away tons of dirty clothes every year, stuffing them in the trash to burn up in the atmosphere aboard discarded cargo ships. So it has teamed up with Procter & Gamble Co. to figure out how best to clean astronauts’ clothes in space so they can be reused for months or even years, just like on Earth.

Food delivery platform Swiggy and integrated airspace management firm ANRA Technologies Private Limited on Wednesday announced that stakeholders from the Ministry of Defence, Directorate General of Civil Aviation, and Ministry of Civil Aviation, have awarded final clearances to commence trials for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone deliveries in India. 

After months of planning, risk assessments, air traffic control integration, training, equipment preparation, and coordination, ANRA’s flight team launched its first sortie on June 16, 2021. For the next several weeks, the flight team will conduct BVLOS food and medical package deliveries in the Etah (Uttar Pradesh) and Rupnagar (Punjab) districts. 

ANRA was approved by the Government of India to lead two consortia as part of this initiative. One consortium consists of ANRA, along with their partners Swiggy, Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar, and BetterDrones, a drone service provider which will focus on food delivery. The second consortium includes ANRA and Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar, and will focus on medical deliveries.

Market capitalisation of Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group has zoomed over 1,000 per cent in less than 3 months. Market cap of the group rose to Rs 7,866 crore on June 18, 2021 from Rs 733 crore in March. In May, market cap of the firm jumped to Rs 3,890 crore in May 2021.

Market cap of the group companies, Reliance Infrastructure, Reliance Power, and Reliance Capital has risen over 100% in the last 20 trading days.

Market cap of Reliance Power stood at Rs 4,446 crore, Reliance Infrastructure at Rs 2,767 crore, and Reliance Capital at Rs 653 crore.

Firms of the Reliance Group such as Reliance Infrastructure, Reliance Power and Reliance Capital have nearly 50 lakh retail investors who have gained from this value creation.

Global chip maker, Intel Corp has teamed up with Indian telecom giant Reliance Jio to launch 5G networking technology. Intel’s venture capital unit last year invested $250 million in Reliance Industries Ltd’s Jio Platforms unit, saying the two companies would find areas of technology partnership.

Intel has meanwhile said that it will work on ‘co-innovations’ with Reliance Jio for its 5G radio-access network (RAN), among other things. Reliance Jio is one of many carriers around the world using a new approach to build 5G networks.

Rather than using gear primarily from telecommunications-specific firms such as Nokia, Ericsson or Huawei Technologies Cos, carriers are shifting toward using software to handle more network functions and tapping the same kind of standard computing equipment used in data centers to run the networks.

Bharti Airtel and Tata Group on Monday announced a strategic partnership for implementing 5G network solutions for India.

Tata Group has developed 'O-RAN (Open Radio Access Network) based Radio and NSA/SA (Non-Standalone/standalone) Core and has integrated a totally indigenous telecom stack, leveraging the Group capabilities and that of its partners', according to a joint statement.

This will be available for commercial development starting January 2022.

'Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) brings its global system integration expertise and helps align the end-to-end solution to both 3GPP and O-RAN standards, as the network and equipment are increasingly embedded into software,' it said.

Airtel will pilot and deploy the indigenous solution as part of its 5G rollout plans in India and begin the pilot in January 2022, as per the norms formulated by the government.

'These 'Made in India' 5G product and solutions are aligned to global standards, and inter-operate with other products based on standard open interfaces and those defined by the O-RAN Alliance,' the statement said.

The 5G solutions, once commercially proven in Airtel's diverse and brownfield network will open export opportunities for India, which is now the second-largest telecom market globally, it added.

Open RAN or open radio access network architecture is industry terminology for interoperability and standardisation of radio access network elements including products and software from various vendors.

Microsoft said Wednesday that CEO Satya Nadella is becoming the chair of the company’s board, replacing independent director John Thompson, following a unanimous vote of the software company’s board.

The change reflects the success Nadella has had in the past seven years making Microsoft more prominent in technology and business altogether.

“In this role, Nadella will lead the work to set the agenda for the board, leveraging his deep understanding of the business to elevate the right strategic opportunities and identify key risks and mitigation approaches for the board’s review,” Microsoft said in a statement.
