Too many women are taught to not listen to their own voice.

We are taught that OTHER'S voices are the ones with authority. We dismiss ourselves as silly and naive. Emotional and overreactive.

We tell ourselves not to take ourselves too seriously, when the truth is, we don't take ourselves seriously ENOUGH.

Your voice--that inner voice that sometimes whispers things to you that you choose to ignore or shove deeper down inside--is meant to be let out and LISTENED TO.

There is wisdom and beauty there that is SCREAMING to be let out. It's time we promise to listen to and obey OURSELVES.

If you aren't sure how to go from keeping small and pleasing others to setting boundaries and listening to your own inner knowing, I can help you. I am a voice and Worthiness coach whose focus is to help women FREE their voices.

Reach out to me and let's talk about how I can help you free YOUR voice.

In a world filled with AI, Autotune, and Photoshop, it's easy to feel like whatever we create is less than perfect at best, and embarrassing at worst.

But guess what?! Creativity isn't about perfection! It never was!

It's about EXPRESSION. It's about communicating to the outside world what we feel and who we are on the inside--and if our inner worlds aren't messy as f**k, I don't know what is!

Creativity is MEANT to be messy!

Time to give perfection the middle finger and create for the sake of creating.

Tag a friend who you are allowed to be messy with.

There's this song called "If it's Not God" by Maddie Zahm.

The first time I watched the music video it completely wrecked me. Actually I've watched the video at least 20 times now, and it has never NOT wrecked me. Maddie wasn't raised Mormon like I was....but her story is still my story. It's the story of far too many women.

The second slide of this post is a picture of me about 8 years ago, playing Emma in a play about Joseph Smith.

When I played this part I was smack dab in the middle of a faith-crisis and was desperately trying to find a way to rekindle my faith in the religion that I had dedicated my entire life to.

I thought that playing the part of Emma in a play that was historically accurate, would be a faith-affirming experience.

NOPE. Instead of easing my cognitive dissonance--it made me more aware of the falsehoods within the narrative that I had been taught and made it glaringly obvious that the religion of my childhood was founded on oppressive patriarchal ideas.

I was stuck between what I had been taught and what I was now discovering. Like Maddie Zahm's powerful lyrics in "If it's Not God," I heard a voice inside my head that disagreed with everything I had been told. And as she sings "thank God it was me" - I knew I had to take control of my own narrative and find my own truth.

There is a powerful scene about 2 and a half minutes into the music video that depicts women with duct tape over their mouths while the religious white men in the same scene are smiling and talking and preaching like nothing is wrong.

Seeing those women who have been robbed of the power of their own voices feels like a punch to my gut EVERY SINGLE TIME. I want to reach into the video and rip the tape off of their mouths--tell them to yell, to shout, to scream, to cry, to laugh, to sing! To let them feel that their voices are powerful, and loveable, and important!

Join me in reclaiming our power and voices, to never let them be silenced and to find and embrace our own truth, regardless of society's expectations.

Lyrics to "If It's Not God" are in the comments--let me know if they resonate with you too!

16/03/2023

Breaking free from the chains of perfection and embracing the messiness of life is not just about freeing ourselves from unrealistic expectations, but also freeing our voices to be truly heard and celebrated. As women, we've been told for too long what is "perfect" and what we should strive for. By rejecting the notion of perfection, we give ourselves the space to love ourselves and each other for who we truly are, and the courage to raise our voices and use them for positive change. So let's reject perfection, embrace our imperfections and speak our truth loudly and proudly!

You have some big shoes to fill - that of your future self.

It may feel like playing dress up, but sometimes, "being your bad self" looks like giving yourself permission to wobble, to fall, and to look a little silly as you grow into the person you want to become.

What shoes do you want to grow into that you still feel a little wobbly in?

Have you ever felt caught in your feelings?

Life isn't always in our control...in fact it's NEVER really in our control, we just trick ourselves into thinking it is.

Expressing our feelings can help us process and release all of the things that we just can't fix. Often expressing our feelings can alchemize our emotions from sadness to relief, or anger to action, or helplessness to feeling supported.

So, when you can't fix it, feel it--you might be surprised by the result!

08/12/2022

I grew up in a perfectionistic family and a high-demand religious culture where, at a very young age, I became obsessed with doing things “the right way.” I thought that to be truly worthy of love, I first had to live up to everyone else’s expectations of me. In short, I thought I had to fit the label of “perfect.”

Labels can be useful to quickly communicate things about ourselves to others, but when we are denying parts of ourselves in order to FIT a certain label...that's a problem.

I have spent the last decade of my life deconstructing and rejecting many of the labels that I used to revere, but occasionally I still try to squeeze myself into a box with a label like "good wife," "fun person to hang out with," "podcast host," or even "Ex-Mormon."

When I catch myself prioritizing a label over my own desires and needs, I reframe my thoughts. For example, instead of "What do I need to do to be a good podcast host?" I think "How can I host a podcast in a way that is fun for me and fits my lifestyle?"

Currently, that means I get to have permission to podcast when I feel like it and not feel guilty if I take a three month hiatus.

What labels are you currently making yourself miserable for? Is it time for a reframe?

Vulnerable share today.

My meditation this morning was on burdens we've carried with us that perhaps we can set down.

This seemingly simple memory from my childhood has haunted me since the day it happened and has shaped so much of the way I am and the way I see myself.

My whole life I have struggled to just be present and live in the moment because I am constantly trying to view my choices from the perspective of everybody else.

Am I doing this right?
If I do this are people going to laugh at me?
Are they going to be disgusted with me?
Are they going to think I'm a joke?

Today's meditation was just one more of a string of experiences teaching me that the important thing is NOT how others view me.
The important thing REALLY IS how I view myself.

Today I want to reclaim the safety of leaning in.
It is safe to lean in even if people recoil.
It is safe to lean in even if people mock me.

It is safe because, unlike when I was seven, I now have the capacity to see myself, show myself compassion, and have my own back.

So here's to leaning in. 🥂

Do you struggle to accept your body as beautiful? Do you realize that your body’s purpose isn’t to provide visual candy for others, but as a way for YOU to experience all of the pleasurable and sensual things that the world has to offer? To touch, to taste, to move, to smell, to see, to hear.

Tap into this power with female form artist, Jen Olson, as she leads you through a watercolor and mixed media painting experience that will have you cherishing your sensuality and female divinity.

01/02/2022

I read something once that said "your childhood ends the day you begin to worry about tomorrow."

I don't remember where I read that, but I think about it a lot.

Last night I was dreaming about my childhood. In my dream I felt like a kid again. I thought like a kid again. Life felt exciting because there were hills to roll down, and turtles to catch, and snow cones to make. I wasn't worried about adulthood--that was so far in the future that it felt much less real to me than the imaginary games I would play with my friends.

I woke up aching to feel that way again.

ALIVE

It was a given in my childhood--even when I was sad or disappointed or bored I felt ALIVE.

It is a much rarer feeling for me these days--I have to go seeking it.

What happened? Is losing that feeling just part of growing up? Does all of the technology surrounding us numb us to feeling ALIVE? Is it adult responsibility and need for control that keeps us from really experiencing our lives?

Can I ever feel that way again? Constantly ALIVE?

What makes YOU feel alive?

Alright friends, I am still figuring out some technical things on this podcast, but I just can't wait any longer to start getting this content out to people, so here it is in it's beginning stages.

(2 quick episodes so far, 3 AMAZING interviews just waiting to be edited and uploaded, and several more interviews lined up with some pretty fabulous people.)

You can subscribe to it on pretty much any platform you get your podcasts from, but if you can't find it on your chosen platform, dm me and I will get you a direct link for it while I work out the bugs to make it searchable.

ALSO if you want more tips about letting go of perfectionism, and videos of me being vulnerable, real, and just plain silly, go follo I'm on a mission to help people feel more comfortable in their own skin and I'd love if you wanted to be part of that.

This is a little excerpt from a podcast episode that I recorded with my friend (airing soon and it is Sooooo good).

She said "My identity isn't a question I'm asking. It's a statement I'm making."
It hit me so hard I made her repeat it a couple of times for me. I tweaked it in this post, by adding the word "worthiness" instead of "identity," but the basic message is the same.

We give too much power to others to define us. Time to take that power back. It's not up to them who we are. We get to define ourselves.

Tune in to your thoughts today and figure out what it is that you are longing for someone to tell you.

Maybe it's "You look beautiful and I love you."

Maybe it's "I've got your back."

Maybe it's "I see you and everything you are doing."

Maybe it's "You deserve a break. Go take care of you today."

Now go ahead and tell yourself that thing. Maybe even write yourself a letter if you feel so inclined. We know what we need better than anyone else, and our own self talk is so powerful.

Today I'm giving you permission to validate your own thoughts and experiences. They are important.

I tried pretty hard to get my 2 year old to wear matching shoes yesterday. She wasn't having it. She wanted one Sparkle shoe and one Kitty shoe.

After about three minutes of trying to man handle her left foot into sparkle shoe #2 I thought, "Does this even matter?"

I decided it didn't. After snapping this picture, I settled for getting her to wear the mismatched shoes on the right feet 😊
