love when this room is full✨
🎸🎸🎸
what a pair for drum OHs🫠
those lows tho✨
R88 just chillin', ready to capture some acoustic guitar for a recent project✨
this project was very stripped back - almost entirely solo acoustic guitar and single vocal, so we went with a stereo capture of the guitar for the natural width, rather than mono - turned out really cool!
throwback to Nate Dugger rippin' it for a video shoot
happy Monday team, hope your week is full of killer projects and plenty of k**b tweakin'✨
dynamics on drums🎤
cozy little spot for some acoustic and vocals✨
absolutely loved this Hamburg-67 T FET on male vocals for an acoustic project tracked here last week✨
Very simple set up, just solo acoustic guitar and a single male vocal (tracked separately). The 67 sat *perfectly* with the warmth of the acoustic (tracked with a ribbon). Mids forward in a way that complimented the singer's voice wonderfully - big fan👌🏻

throwback to the build days - framing up!✨
the troops in their bunks🫡
made it to Friday, team - everyone have a great weekend✨
together, but separate✨
currently loving our R88 on piano🤤
side rig brought in for a session✨
is there a mic or piece of outboard gear that you CAN'T run a session without? something you'll bring into any studio, no matter what? what's that piece for you?
when the mics and the piano get the same dress code memo👌🏻💛🖤
Let's make something fun together✨ 20% off all sessions booked through July 31
Don't forget! This sale applies to any session *booked* within July, NOT just sessions that occur in July - SO, if you’re planning projects for this coming fall/winter, now is a great opportunity to secure those dates at a better rate for your budget💸.
Sale doesn’t apply to packages or production work, and can’t be combined with other discounts.
always a treat having a U47 in the house✨
💜💛🎸
get me a hat (and chops) like ✨
hope your July is full of good sessions and creativity everyone - get after it!✨
don't sleep on the under-piano mic 👀
our 512c's - we love 'em😊
hard to beat these babies on drums, and guitar amps sound like a dream through them✨
for our fellow 512 users/fans - what's your favorite application for these classics? would love to hear!
whatever happened to real amps😭
don't get me wrong - love the new modeling tech and use it all the time, but there's just *something* about that real amp sound in the room
what're you guys thinking here these days? hate the modeling stuff, love it, or a bit of a balance?
tweakin' 🎛️
love when the gang's all together✨
sometimes our vocal booth doubles as "video village" / focus-pulling station, and hey that's pretty cool too, not gonna lie✨

No. 5 - Gear BREAKS💥😭 Number 5 in our “6 Things They Don’t Tell You About Running a Recording Studio” video → gear breaks down! And often it’s the worst timing too - mid session, right during that perfect take, or right when you reallyyyyy don’t wanna spend the cash to fix it. What’s your worst gear breakdown nightmare story or stories - let us know!✨
Final Organization TIP from our studio storage breakdown video✨ get rid of the clutter! we’ve all got those extra items in the studio that we keep around, thinking “I KNOW I’m gonna need this eventually whenever “X” obscure scenario pops up”. Get really honest with yourself - “what are the things I’m *actually* using all the time in sessions”, and organize AROUND those items, prioritizing easy, clean access to them, for quick set up / breakdown. All the rest? Get rid of it! (or find a better, less present storage solution) how do you keep your studio or creative space? tornado style🌪️ or clean and clutter free🧼?
No. 4 - People will STEAL your stuff😭 Number 4 in our “6 Things They Don’t Tell You About Running a Recording Studio” video → stuff disappears constantly! Typically, not the crazy expensive gear, but a TON of small to medium stuff that just walks off with people if you’re not staying on top of inventory like a madman. What about you? Have you had any theft nightmare stories in the studio? Let us know!✨
People will TRASH your studio💥 Number 4 in our “6 Things They Don’t Tell You About Running a Recording Studio” video → not everyone has good studio etiquette😭. Dealing with people who just don’t care for your space and gear can be a real bummer. Have you had any nightmare experiences in this realm? If so, share with us in the comments! Check out the full video via the link in our bio✨
No. 3 - Running a studio can be FEAST💸 or FAMINE☠️ Number 3 in our “6 Things They Don’t Tell You About Running a Recording Studio” video → get ready for ups and downs! Good business practices are *essential* when running a small business like a studio. Learning to make wise choices with your $$ can be the difference between success and failure. Let us know if this resonated with your experience - and tell us some things you’ve learned in studio world that you didn’t expect! Check out the full video via the link in our bio✨
the contenders! 4 mic styles, 4 arrangements, 1 (gorgeous) drum kit, shooting out room mic options✨- what’s your go-to for drum room mics? check out the full video on our YouTube channel via the link in our bio
6 Things They Don’t Tell You | No. 2 - Running a studio is A LOT of “non-studio” work✨ The 2nd in our “6 Things They Don’t Tell You About Running a Recording Studio” video - it’s def NOT all studio vibes, all the time. It’s a lot of admin and maintenance work too🥵. We listed this as a “neutral” aspect, because not every hates this believe it or not! Let us know if this resonated with your experience - and tell us some things you’ve learned in studio world that you didn’t expect! Check out the full video via the link in our bio!
#1 - You’ll get to work with INSANE musicians & talent✨ The first in our “6 Things They Don’t Tell You About Running a Recording Studio” video - getting to sit court-side to absolutely lights out talented musicians and engineers/producers. Check out the full video via the link in our bio!
quick blitz through our studio history as the precursor and set up for our most recent video laying out 6 things that we’ve learned in our time opening and running a studio✨ check out the full video on our channel! (link in bio).
Looking to open or expand your studio operation?🎙️ Well today’s video is for YOU. studio organization breakdown - CABLES style✨ few things in the world are more annoying than disorganized and tangled cables (can I get an amen?) - here’s how we avoid that headache here in the studio!
DONE✨ now let’s hear them all compressed, back to back - what’s your preference? let us know in the comments, and check out the full video on our YouTube channel (link in bio)
our main storage areas here at Graybox - the loft space (instruments), and the live room iso (cables, stands, mics, etc)✨ the iso was (obviously) not designed primarily to function as a storage area, but for us it makes the most sense! check out the full video (link in bio) if you’re interested in seeing the full breakdown and explanation!
ok, so we tamed the lows before hitting the @uaudio 1176 Rev A on our @ribbonmics AEA R88 - NOW, maybe we explore some other EQ options, just to see!✨
BLACKOUT🌒 here’s how we take the light-soaked natural look of our studio and black it out for session and video shoots that need a darker vibe
anyone else’s sessions roll like this?😂 good organization is KEY to make sure this stuff doesn’t derail your day! check out our video breaking down our storage system set up here at the studio (link in bio), and let us know how you approach storage and organization in the studio!
