Hear Sarah Keh, the vice president of corporate social responsibility at Prudential Financial, describe how Prudential is investing millions in young people, and how the resulting programs are helping “opportunity youth” build prosperous futures – on the latest Work in Progress podcast, recorded at the Aspen Ideas Festival in collaboration with The Aspen Institute.

“The reason why they have come into the situation that there are in … is not because they don’t have the will or the desire,” Keh says. “It’s oftentimes they are born into a situation that doesn’t provide them the access to the opportunities that you and I may have had in our upbringing.”

Ageism often can be more out in the open than other biases. Could part of the problem be the way Hollywood depicts older people in and out of the workforce? Ramona Schindelheim talks to writer-producer Ron Friedman and David Gittins – all three on the board of Age Inclusion in Media – on Work in Progress: https://bit.ly/45rRQH7

“When we don’t have older writers writing for older characters,” Gittins says, “we get stereotypical portrayals of what an older character is, which means we get tropes, we get cranky old characters, we get forgetful old characters, and we get sidekicks as opposed to central characters in their own lives.”

“The growth in the clean energy industry is indisputable,” says Paula DiPerna, a special advisor to CDP, a nonprofit that works to build a sustainable economy by helping investors, companies, and cities understand their environmental impact.

Over the past five years, the number of green jobs has grown 10 percent. “Any job, any work that produces an environmental benefit is probably on a growth curve because all of the natural resources that we are dependent upon, if they’re not actually finite, they’re very limited. And so that requires efficiency, more and more efficiency,” explains DiPerna who joins Ramona Schindelheim of WorkingNation for this special Earth Day 2020 Work in Progress podcast.

Right now, like most of the economy, job growth is on pause in the green jobs sector. But, looking ahead, green jobs could play a role in our economic recovery after COVID-19. They could be a lifeline for the unemployed as businesses start adding jobs again.
