No Matter What’s Happening in Your Life Right Now, You Must Read This Short Story.

This is an amazing short story about a man who decided to quit his job, relationship and spirituality. But before it, he asked for advice from God. Here is the story :

I quit my job,
my relationship,
my spirituality…
I wanted to quit my life.
I went to the woods to have one last talk with god...

“God”, I asked,
“Can you give me one good reason not to quit?”. His answer surprised me…

“Look around”, He said. “Do you see the fern and the bamboo ?
“Yes”, I replied.
“When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them.

I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth.

Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.

In the second year, the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful.

And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo."

He said, “In year three, there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit.
In year four, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. I would not quit.” He said.

“Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant…But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall.

It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive.

I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle.”

He asked me. “Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots”.

“I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you.”

“Don’t compare yourself to others.” He said.
”The bamboo had a different Purpose than the fern. Yet they both make the forest beautiful.”

"Your time will come”, God said to me.
“You will rise high”.
“How high should I rise?” I asked.
“How high will the bamboo rise?” He asked in return.
“As high as it can?” I questioned.
”Yes.” He said, “Give me glory by rising as high as you can.”

After this unusual conversation he went home and wrote this story to let everyone know that God loves you and will never quit on you, so you must never give up – instead, you need to rise as high as you can!"

Once upon a time, there lived a fox. Some lice thought that the fox’s fur would make a nice home for them to live in, and soon thousands of lice were all over his body. It was a terrible situation. The fox rubbed and scratched and did everything he could, but he couldn’t get rid of them.

One day, the fox went to a pond to drink water. As he placed his front paws in the water and started to drink, he noticed that the paws in the pond were suddenly free of lice. The lice had crawled up the fox’s body because of the water.

The fox was intelligent. He thought, “Ah, here is the solution!” So he found a stick, took one end of it in his mouth, and then slowly began walking into the water. Immediately, all the lice moved up the fox’s legs to get away from the water.

The farther into the water the fox went, the higher the lice climbed. When the water touched the fox’s abdomen, the lice moved onto its back. Little by little, the fox went in deeper, until all the lice were crowded onto its head. It went deeper still, until only its nose and the stick were out of the water. The lice moved onto the stick; only a few stayed on the nose. Then the fox took a deep breath, held its breath, and submerged its whole body. The few remaining lice moved onto the stick.

At that moment, the fox simply let go of the stick. The lice floated away on the stick, and the fox walked out of the pond totally liberated from all lice and botheration. He felt so free!

Inspirational Stories

All our spiritual practices are like sticks that are used to get rid of the “lice”— our attachments and undesirable habits. They help free us from all that binds us.

Eventually, the attachment to the stick of our spiritual practices also has to let go of. For it is only the means, not the end. This is the correct understanding and relationship to have with our practices.

Once upon a time a woman, mother of three young boys lost her husband and was grief-stricken. She clung on to the 3 children as her lifelines. But such was destiny that she lost two of her sons one by one. Fate did not show any mercy and when she lost her 3rd, and youngest son as well she took the little boy’s body and came to Gautam Buddha. She said, “Spirituality does not mean anything unless you bring my son back to life.”

Gautam Buddha knew that in this state of anguish whatever he could say or do would be futile. So he said, “I will bring your boy back to life if you go and get me a few sesame seeds from a house that has never known death.” The woman went from house to house, looking for one that had never known death. After going through the entire town, she realized there wasn’t a single home like this. She knew what Buddha wanted to convey and she became his disciple for the rest of her life.

We all are going through our own set of challenges. Accepting them and extending compassion to all around us is true Spirituality...is being a true "Buddha".

It is better to do things poorly than to not do them at all. A 15-20 minute walk is better than not going, slow yoga or stretching is better than not moving at all. Reading a few pages is better than not reading anything.

During a prank, a student stuck a paper on his classmate's back that said "𝗜'𝗺 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗽𝗶𝗱", and asked the rest of the class not to tell the boy.

Thus the students began laughing on and off...

Came afternoon math class started and their teacher wrote a difficult question on the board.

No one was able to answer it except the boy with the sticker.

Amid the unexplained giggles, he walked toward the board and solved the problem.

The teacher asked the class to clap for him and remove the paper on his back.

She told him: "It seems that you don’t know about the paper your classmate has pasted on your back."

Then the teacher looked at the rest of the class and said:

"Before I give you a punishment, let me tell you 2 things:

First, throughout your Life, people will put labels on you with many nasty words to stop your progress.

Had your classmate known about the paper, he wouldn't have gotten up to answer the question.

A violinist played for 45 minutes in a New York subway. A handful of people stopped, a couple clapped, and the violinist managed to raise about $30 in tips.

No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the best musicians in the world. In that subway, Joshua played one of the most intricate pieces ever written with a violin worth 3.5 million dollars.

Two days before he played in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at a theater in Boston and the seats averaged about $100.

The experiment proved that the extraordinary in an ordinary environment does not shine and is so often overlooked and undervalued.

There are brilliantly talented people everywhere who aren’t receiving the recognition and reward they deserve. But once they arm themselves with value and confidence and remove themselves from an environment that isn’t serving them, they thrive and grow.

Your gut is telling you something. Listen to it if it’s telling you that where you are isn’t enough!

How To Live & Die

I’ve often thought about what it is that makes people happy—what one has to do in order to achieve happiness.

1- First and foremost is good health. If you do not enjoy good health, you can never be happy. Any ailment, however trivial, will deduct something from your happiness.

2- Second, a healthy bank balance. It need not run into crores, but it should be enough to provide for comforts, and there should be something to spare for recreation—eating out, going to the movies, travel and holidays in the hills or by the sea. Shortage of money can be demoralising. Living on credit or borrowing is demeaning and lowers one in one’s own eyes.

3- Third, your own home. Rented places can never give you the comfort or security of a home that is yours for keeps. If it has garden space, all the better. Plant your own trees and flowers, see them grow and blossom, and cultivate a sense of kinship with them.

4- Fourth, an understanding companion, be it your spouse or a girlfriend or a best friend. If you have too many misunderstandings, it robs you of your peace of mind. It is better to accept the differences than to be quarrelling all the time.

5- Fifth, stop envying those who have done better than you in life—risen higher, made more money, or earned more fame. Envy can be corroding; avoid comparing yourself with others.

6- Sixth, do not allow people to descend on you for gossip. By the time you get rid of them, you will feel exhausted and poisoned by their gossip-mongering.

7- Seventh, cultivate a hobby or two that will fulfill you—gardening, reading, writing, painting, playing or listening to music. Going to clubs or parties to get free drinks, or to meet celebrities, is a criminal waste of time. It’s important to concentrate on something that keeps you occupied meaningfully.

8- Eighth, every morning and evening devote 20 minutes to meditation or introspection. In the mornings, 10 minutes should be spent in keeping the mind absolutely still, and five listing the things you have to do that day. In the evenings, five minutes should be set aside to keep the mind still and 10 to go over the tasks you had intended to do.

9- Ninth, don’t lose your temper. Try not to be short-tempered, or vengeful. Even when a friend has been rude, just move on.

10- Above all, when the time comes to go, one should go like a Person without any regret or grievance against anyone.

Let’s assume a Situation

You are full of sweat, very thirsty and your throat is dry but you are not getting water anywhere near by. In such situation, you stand under shade of a tree to eliminate fatigue. There is a building in front of that tree. Just then a window of an apartment on first floor of building opens and person looks around. He sees you. Looking at you that person understand your situation and by gesture of hands, that person asks you if you need water. You felt relieved.

At this time what will you think about that person?

(This is your first opinion)

When you responded in yes, that person signals that he is coming down with water and closes the window. Now, door on ground floor doesn’t even open after 15 minutes. What will you think about that person now?

(This is your second opinion)

After 16 minutes door opens and man came out toward you with a bottle and says: I am sorry for delay but seeing your condition, i thought it would be best to give you lemonade instead of water, so it took sometime. Now think, your opinion about that person must have changed.. right? Remember that you have not received any water or lemonade yet.

(This is your third opinion about that person)

Now, as soon as you drink that lemonade, you realize that there is no sugar in it. How do you feel about that person now?

(This time fourth opinion takes shape)

Seeing you face full of sourness, person gently bring out a pouch of sugar powder and giving it to you says: You can add as much as you want according to your taste.

Now, your opinion about same person must have changed again? In a normal situation like this, if our opinion keep changing again and again, are we worthy of giving opinion on anyone.

In fact, by seeing the world, it is understood that if a person behaves according to your expectations then he is good, otherwise he is bad.

One night in an all-girls camp, the counselor asked if anyone wanted to share something that happened that day that impacted them. One camper raised her hand and said a girl from another camp cabin said something that hurt her feelings.

The counselor went to the bathroom to grab a tube of toothpaste. She squeezed it just a bit so some toothpaste came out. She then tried to put the toothpaste back in the tube, but it just created a mess. Then she squeezed the tube even more, pushing more toothpaste out and creating even more of a mess, but none of it would go back into the tube.

The counselor said,

“This toothpaste represents the words you speak. Once you say something that you want to take back, it’s impossible and it only creates a mess. Think before you speak.”

Here is the list of best five books that are must-read if you want to know Swami Vivekananda and his teachings in a better way:

1. The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda : As the name suggests, this series can take anyone through the journey of Swami Vivekananda’s teachings. The series is available in nine volumes, accumulating the lessons of Swami Vivekananda through his own words.

2. Master As I Saw Him: Written by Sister Nivedita, a disciple of Swami Vivekananda, Master As I Saw Him gives the sneak-peak into the life of the monk as a student and learner. An incredibly humble but intelligent description of Swami Vivekananda's life through the eyes of a close disciple, this book should be on your list.

3. Swami Vivekananda, the Living Vedanta: In his book, Badrinath Chaturvedi takes a unique approach by trying to understand Vivekananda as a person rather than the religious and national leader. The book talks about the life of Naren, the birth name of Vivekananda, and his relationship with his master Sri Ram Krishna Paramhansa.

4. Life of Vivekananda and the Universal Gospel: Written by Nobel Prize winner Romain Rolland, this book is probably the best book written on Vivekananda. The foreign author has presented the ideas and life of Vivekananda in a simple and clear way.

5. Swami Vivekananda: An Intuitive Scientist: The book is written by TGK Murthy, trying to explore Vivekananda’s knowledge in matters of physical sciences. The book establishes Swamiji as a person who is acquainted with the scientific thoughts of his times.
