Irwindale Public Library is hosting its fifth annual FREE outdoor book festival. Lots of local children’s book authors attend this one—it’s such a great community and is always one of our favorite festivals of the year!

WonderCon is LA Comic Con’s—dare I say— cooler and more indie cousin. It’s great for all things comics, gaming, cosplay, anime, and pop culture. Oak Tree Comics will be exhibiting in the Small Press section.

🔘 Option A: Issue 9 is titled “Do You Speak Worm?” After refusing to help Rosie rescue Thorn, a curmudgeonly Jack has no one for company but an equally curmudgeonly pixie named Worm. Let’s just say that Jack and Worm do NOT communicate well.

Without giving too much away, issue 9 also includes…

Are you a Los Angeles artist or writer? To support the fire recovery efforts, we’re putting together an anthology of comics where each story will address the climate crisis in a way that’s approachable for children, with the goal of inspiring kids—and all Angelenos—to have hope for the future ❤️‍🩹

All proceeds from the book will go to a non-profit that supports the recovery efforts, as chosen by the participating storytellers as a committee.

Only in Los Angeles could Oak Tree Comics exist 💔

A note from author :

I moved to Los Angeles in 2012 for the same reason so many people do, to pursue a dream. In my little Mini, I drove cross country with all my belongings and a shallow perception of what the city would mean to me. I envisioned stars —The Hollywood Fame. When I rounded the corner, taking the 5 into the city for the first time, I instead saw mountains, staggering, unapologetic nature forming a basin of communities yet unknown to me.

At the time, I knew no one in LA. A dozen years later, countless Angelenos have entered and touched my life, shaping who I am today, and my heart breaks for them.

Many an LA transplant will tell you moving here isn’t easy. Its sprawl and individualism can be lonely. But I fell in love with LA—for its people, its creativity, and its nature. I fear for the people and communities who are dear to me but I’m proud to be Angeleno strong. Here’s to all the Angelenos who need strength in the days and weeks ahead.❤️

🌟 DECEMBER 7-8TH —

The Jackalope Indie Artisan Fair is a vibrant market with over 150 vendors. It’s the perfect place to find a one-of-a-kind hand-crafted gift. The market is this Saturday and Sunday from 11am-5pm in Downtown Burbank.

🌟 DECEMBER 14th —

The magical setting for the Theatricum Botanicum Holiday Family Faire feels like it’s straight out of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Theatricum Botanicum is equal parts a natural sanctuary and a community theater space in the Topanga woods. A couple dozen art vendors will have their wares on display, plus great food and Santa will be in attendance. The event is Saturday the 14th from 11am-5pm.

🌟 DECEMBER 15th —

In addition to select artisan and food vendors, expect lots of live music and a really jazzy evening. The Silverlake Conservatory of Music Holiday Bazaar is a party! Musician students and teachers celebrate the year by singing and playing their hearts out. The event runs from 2-7pm on Sunday the 15th.

🌟 DECEMBER 21st —

Do some holiday shopping while plant shopping, too! The Theodore Payne Foundation is a non-profit that inspires and educates Southern Californians about wildflowers and native plants. At their garden nursery, they are hosting The Spirit of the Chaparral Holiday Marketplace for the next three weekends. Oak Tree Comics will have a table alongside other local vendors who advocate for nature on December 21st from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
