This week Art & Oakie help the Giant Panda 🐼💚 Illustrated by @josianevlitos 🎨 Written by @josh_oaktree 📝 🌟 DID YOU KNOW…? 🌟 Every day, pandas eat 26 to 84 pounds of bamboo!!!That’s so much bamboo 🎋😳🎋 🖤 ARE PANDAS ENDANGERED? 🖤 While bamboo is one of the most sustainable resources and one of the fastest growing plants, too many bamboo forests are cut down to be replaced by monoculture farms. Monoculture farms grow only one crop, which is awful for biodiversity and terrible for our friend the panda. Pandas are currently listed as “vulnerable” to endangerment due to habitat loss and deforestation. Currently, there are only ~ 1,864 pandas in the wild. That’s way too few!! 💚🐼💚 🤍WHAT CAN YOU DO? 🤍 1️⃣Choose bamboo over plastic but… 2️⃣...know the problem isn’t just plastic but single use. If you’re buying bamboo, plan to use it for a long time! 3️⃣ If you can, support organizations like @wwf that protect forests and animals world-wide 🌍 Have more ideas for how to help? Their footprints leave puddles throughout the forest that smaller animals and insects depend on as a water source and home. Without these amazing animals, African forests would be filled with much less life!! Our Kickstarter campaign is for the upcoming sequel ART & OAKIE ASK: DO YOU SPEAK BEAR? as well as the second print run of the first book. What makes this series so special is that it has nearly no words. Its comic book visuals empower readers to make up the story for themselves. This format amplifies the story's message of speaking up for the environment through our actions. Its story continues Art and Oakie’s adventure as they make an unexpected friend in Bear and speak up for all the animals of the forest. The Kickstarter not only helps our team spread the word about a series we believe in deeply, and that we’ve seen inspire kids to be more vocal in speaking up for the environment, but it also helps us be more environmental in our printing practices. That means our books use soy-based inks instead of petroleum, which is kinder to our planet, and we are able to continue our donation program. For every book we print, we donate a dollar to the non-profit @onetreeplanted. The team and I couldn’t be prouder to share the book with you soon — also, to share the incredibly fun and hopefully inspiring Kickstarter campaign we’ve put together!
