In 2023 it was estimated that the average cost to house an inmate in the US is roughly $39,158. When adjusted for inflation this would come to $46,115 roughly per year, per inmate. As of January 2024 median rent was $1,380 roughly. There are an estimated 650,000 homeless Americans today. This means if we paid rent for all 650,000 people the cost yearly would be roughly $11B. If we simply released all Non-Violent criminals and placed them on alternative supervision, like house arrest or Parole/Probation, converted those empty cells into basic housing for the homeless we would actually have a $40B surplus and cut prison population down by an estimated 70% or more saving even more money.

Why are we housing criminals for FREE and allowing Americans to live in the streets?🤨🤔
