Hadith on Virtue: Sayings written on the sword of the Prophet

Ali reported: When the weapon of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had been assembled, I found on the handle or blade of his sword three sayings, “Maintain relations with those who cut you off, speak the truth even if it is against yourself, and be good to one who is evil to you.”

عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ لَمَّا أَنْ ضَمَّ إِلَيْهِ سِلَاحَهُ يَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ وَجَدْتُ فِي ذُؤَابَةِ أَوْ عِلَاقَةِ سَيْفِهِ ثَلَاثَةَ أَحْرُفٍ صِلْ مَنْ قَطَعَكَ وَقُلِ الْحَقَّ وَلَوْ عَلَى نَفْسِكَ وَأَحْسِنْ إِلَى مَنْ أَسَاءَ إِلَيْكَ

"This is the Book! There is no doubt about it—a guide for those mindful of Allah˺, who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and donate from what We have provided for them, and who believe in what has been revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ and what was revealed before you, and have sure faith in the Hereafter."

"And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allāh - then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allāh will accomplish His purpose. Allāh has already set for everything a [decreed] extent."

وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ ۚ وَمَن يَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسْبُهُۥٓ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بَـٰلِغُ أَمْرِهِۦ ۚ قَدْ جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لِكُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ قَدْرًۭا ٣

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,

“The strong believer is more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, but there is goodness in both of them. Be eager for what benefits you, seek help from Allah, and do not be frustrated. If something befalls you, then do not say: If only I had done something else. Rather say: Allah has decreed what he wills. Verily, the phrase ‘if only’ opens the way for the work of Satan.”

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمُؤْمِنُ الْقَوِيُّ خَيْرٌ وَأَحَبُّ إِلَى اللَّهِ مِنْ الْمُؤْمِنِ الضَّعِيفِ وَفِي كُلٍّ خَيْرٌ احْرِصْ عَلَى مَا يَنْفَعُكَ وَاسْتَعِنْ بِاللَّهِ وَلَا تَعْجَزْ وَإِنْ أَصَابَكَ شَيْءٌ فَلَا تَقُلْ لَوْ أَنِّي فَعَلْتُ كَانَ كَذَا وَكَذَا وَلَكِنْ قُلْ قَدَرُ اللَّهِ وَمَا شَاءَ فَعَلَ فَإِنَّ لَوْ تَفْتَحُ عَمَلَ الشَّيْطَانِ

"Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak goodness or remain silent."

مَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَلْيَقُلْ خَيْرًا أَوْ لِيَصْمُتْ

"Allah does not require of any soul more than what it can afford. All good will be for its own benefit, and all evil will be to its own loss. ˹The believers pray,˺ “Our Lord! Do not punish us if we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord! Do not place a burden on us like the one you placed on those before us. Our Lord! Do not burden us with what we cannot bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our ˹only˺ Guardian. So grant us victory over the disbelieving people.”

لَا يُكَلِّفُ ٱللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا ۚ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا مَا ٱكْتَسَبَتْ ۗ رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَآ إِن نَّسِينَآ أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَآ إِصْرًۭا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُۥ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِۦ ۖ وَٱعْفُ عَنَّا وَٱغْفِرْ لَنَا وَٱرْحَمْنَآ ۚ أَنتَ مَوْلَىٰنَا فَٱنصُرْنَا عَلَى ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ ٢٨٦

Quran (2: 286)

Whatever you're going through, just read this verse. Analyze it. Contemplate it.

Al-‘Abbas reported: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, teach me something to ask Allah Almighty.”

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Ask Allah for wellness.” I waited some days, then I came and said, “O Messenger of Allah, teach me something to ask Allah.” The Prophet said to me, “O ‘Abbas, O uncle of the Messenger of Allah, ask Allah for wellness in the world and in the Hereafter.”

عَنِ ‌الْعَبَّاسِ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ عَلِّمْنِي شَيْئًا أَسْأَلُهُ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَالَ صلى الله عليه وسلم سَلِ اللهَ الْعَافِيَةَ فَمَكَثْتُ أَيَّامًا ثُمَّ جِئْتُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ عَلِّمْنِي شَيْئًا أَسْأَلُهُ اللهَ فَقَالَ لِي يَا عَبَّاسُ يَا عَمَّ رَسُولِ اللهِ سَلِ اللهَ الْعَافِيَةَ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ

Hadith on Gratitude: Allah ﷻ asks about even the smallest blessings

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,

“By the One in whose hand is my soul, among the blessing you will be questioned about on the Day of Resurrection are the cool shade, fresh dates, and cold water.”

عَنْ ‌أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ مِنَ النَّعِيمِ الَّذِي تُسْأَلُونَ عَنْهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ظِلٌّ بَارِدٌ وَرُطَبٌ طَيِّبٌ وَمَاءٌ بَارِدٌ

Resurrection and life after death is a deep-rooted belief as all divine prophets have informed about them. And most people throughout the ages believed in it. Although there are also some who have no faith in it (e.g. Qawm Ad, Qawm Thamud, etc...)

Allah ﷻ says in the Quran:

Allah, there is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him. He will certainly gather ˹all of˺ you together on the Day of Judgment—about which there is no doubt. And whose word is more truthful than Allah’s?
