Bobby Rydell was 17 when he recorded this great song, which was said to be his mother's favorite. The maturity of his vocals were amazing. He gives emotion like no other.

The harmony in this song, 'Holiday Hill', shows you how good the Orlons were. Rosetta Hightower, Shirley Brickley & Marlena Davis, great singers, each could carry a lead vocal.

On the Parkway 45, The Dovells' Bristol Stomp, one lyric line is "We ponied and we twisted and we rocked with Daddy G". Were they singing of Gene Barge, a sax player noted mostly for co-writing the song 'A Night with Daddy G' for the Church Street Five. You'll notice it's Quarter to Three. Gary U.S. Bonds was also on Legrand Records.

The Bristol Stomp shares the same chord sequence. The writers, Kal Mann & Dave Appell, saw this record released in August 1961. The Church Street Five in late 1960. I'm sure there are other sound alike songs.

Another instrumental which led to other songs. Daddy G was Gene Barge. In Philly Part 2 was played more than Part 1.

Bunny Sigler was born in Philadelphia, PA, and was nicknamed "Bunny" by his family as a young child. He sang in churches, and joined several local doo-wop groups, including the Opals, in which he sang with his brother James Sigler, Ritchie Rome and Jack Faith. By the late 1950s he had started performing in local venues as a singer and pianist, and he first recorded for the V-Tone Records label in 1959.
Leon Huff then recommended him to record producers John Madara and Dave White at Cameo-Parkway Records. His second single for the Parkway label, a medley of two Shirley and Lee hits, "Let the Good Times Roll & Feel So Good", rose on both the national pop and R&B charts, reaching #20 R&B and #22 pop in 1967. The follow-up, another medley, this time of two doo-wop songs, "Lovey Dovey"/"You're So Fine", also reached the R&B chart in the same year.

Ronnie LaVelle had a Cameo release of 'Let Her Go' with a flip side of 'A Dog's Life', which is featured here. It's from 1961. He had another release, 'Cartoons", a goofy parody of TV carton characters.

The first Orlons release on Cameo was "I'll Be True/Heart, Darling, Angel". This 'B' side was written by Orlons' members, Shirley Brickley & Stephen Caldwell. It's rare that their penned songs were recorded. This is a great group harmony tune with Rosetta Hightower on lead.

Today is Bobby Rydell Day. It was just a few weeks ago last year that he passed away. Even before Chubby Checker's first record, The Class, Parkway Parkway released this record in 1958 fit for another era. Tempation by the Temptations, one of Parkway's first releases was to test the waters to announce their label to to the world. And hoping the 45 would catch on.

Today is Dave Appell 's birthday. He was born on March 24, 1922. He passed November 2014. He was so important to the Cameo Parkway music factory churning out so many records.

Dave Appell went on in the early 70s to produce Tony Orlando & Dawn. He was a marvel in the the studio & even traveled with CP artists to get them ready for performing.

For a short while, the Chariot Records of Bob Brady & the Con Chords were distributed by Cameo Parkway in 1965. 'Tell Me Why' was an outstanding song of great harmony and the wonderful lead vocal of Bob Brady.

After the Crests, Johnny Maestro made a bunch of 45s for Cameo Records. This tune (1962) was first recorded by the Orlons as their first release, which did not chart in 1961.
While the Marlena Davis' lead vocal is so good, Johnny owns this Kal Mann/Dave Appell version just as much.

Thinking of three giants in the Cameo Parkway Universe who passed away in 2022.
Bobby Rydell was an international star & the label's top artist.
Charlie Gracie had CP's first #1 hit, among many more records.
Joe Tarsia was CP's engineer working the boards to make great recordings.

The passing of Jerry Blavat, the Geator with the Heater, leaves a void in the Philadelphia area. For over 60 years, he spun 45s on the radio and music shows. He played Cameo Parkway discs at all the shows. And friends with all the CP people. He even cut a record on Cameo & Favor Records. The reason the label was called Favor as Bernie Lowe owed Jerry a favor for playing & pushing CP records on air.
