“Cold Chillin was a part of my life that I can never forget. It allowed me to lead some young people in a positive direction they certainly weren’t headed. Although I was very young myself it taught me many things I was able to use later on when I started a college program for the Brooklyn Steppers marching band in 1996. Since that time over 1300 so-called at-risk kids have gone to college. So Cold Chillin served as much more than a record label. It was a place where Black kids could improve themselves.”

Out of all the awards, this by far, was the most important to me!

Congratulations to Tennessee State University's - now a two-time grammy award winner. Their 2022 project 'The Urban Hymnal' won BEST ROOTS GOSPEL ALBUM and BEST COLLABORATION ON A SPOKEN WORD SINGLE.

Tennessee State is the first HBCU to be nominated and now win a Grammy. They are also the first-ever collegiate band to do so.

We are saddened to hear that another of our music legends has become an ancestor. We were honored to have on our vodcast in November 2020 where he shared so much knowledge and pearls of wisdom with our audience. He was fighting for equity and inclusion back then and disrupting the status quo to make sure that he provided opportunities for other Black creators. Here is an excerpt from that episode.
