In a major consolidation of the telecom sector, state-owned Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has entered into a Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) with the shareholders of Telenor Pakistan (Private) Limited (TPL) for the acquisition of 100% shares for Rs108 billion.

PTCL board approves and Enters into 100% Share Purchase Agreement for Telenor Pakistan bases on Enterprise Value of Rs 108B.

The transaction will be financed by External Debt that will be raised by the company.

The SBP announced on Wednesday that the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) had renewed the deposit agreement, which was due to mature on December 5, 2023, for another 12 months.

The deposit was first made in 2021 and rolled over in 2022 as a sign of the close relationship between the two brotherly countries.

The extension of the deposit term is expected to ease the pressure on Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves, which have been declining due to debt repayments and lower inflows from overseas investors.

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Shamshad Akhtar said that Pakistan would get quick disbursement of financial assistance from various multilateral institutions once the first review of the Stand-By Arrangement (SBA) is approved by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Executive Board next month

In an interview with a private news channel, she said, Pakistan would not only get $700 million from the fund but the SBA approval would also unlock financial assistance from many other multilateral financial institutions.

She said that the SBA agreement would go to the IMF Executive Board for approval before the Christmas holidays next month, hoping that on the basis of performance, if it approved the review, it would unlock about $1.5 billion quick disbursing programme, behind which there were many reforms which the government had implemented.

RTI activist Pandit Keshav filed a complaint alleging that Mitchell Marsh's act of dropping legs on the World Cup trophy had offended the sentiments of Indian cricket team fans.
