LONDON: US supermodel Bella Hadid has stepped from the catwalk into the metaverse with the launch of CY-B3LLA - a collection of Non-Fungible Tokens featuring artwork based on 3-D scans of her face and body.

Hadid, 25, told Reuters in an interview from New York that she was intrigued by shared virtual world environments and that she wanted to make "cool versions" of herself after becoming obsessed with video games during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Earlier, she said on her Instagram account that she had created the NFTs to "encourage travel, community, growth, fantasy and human interactions".

NFTs are a digital asset that exist on blockchain, a record of transactions kept on networked computers. All kinds of digital objects - including images, videos, music and text - can be bought and sold as NFTs.

"It was super fun," Hadid said of the process, saying the end results really have her "exact facial expressions".

Her collection comprises 11,111 NFTs and they were made in collaboration with the NFT minting platform reBASE.

Inspiration for the CY-B3LLA NFTs came from 10 different countries, with input from local artists.

Venture capital firm Adreessen Horowitz (a16z) said it’s leading a whopping $50 million seed round for Gary Vaynerchuk’s NFT project, VeeFriends — marking a bright spot in a challenging funding landscape for digital asset-focused startups.

Celebrity influencer and VaynerMedia CEO Gary Vaynerchuk, or Gary Vee, launched VeeFriends in May 2021.

VeeFriends intends to use the seed capital to expand its intellectual property (IP) across physical and digital platforms of the 283 VeeFriends characters, according to a Medium post. The platform also plans to make new hires.

Chris Lyons, general partner at Andreessen Horowitz, tweeted additional details about his firm’s backing of the “growing Web3 company.” A spokesperson for Vaynerchuk declined to comment.

Claiming VeeFriends “represents the ethos of entrepreneurship,” Lyons also praised Vaynerchuk’s “commitment to supporting his community members’ personal growth.”

Crypto exchange Binance has announced it will trial non-fungible token (NFT) tickets for an Italian football club, Lazio, for the 2022/2023 season. The concept of NFT tickets is expected to provide a solution to the challenges of traditional ticketing by solving inefficiencies like counterfeiting, and scalping among others. It is worth noting that during the UEFA Champions League final in May 2022, the use of fake tickets threatened to mar the game. Since then, there have been deliberations as to whether NFTs could potentially stop the challenges of traditional ticketing.

Now NFT tickets, as a concept, aren't entirely new. They have been used in concerts previously with startups like Afterparty managing to secure $4 million (roughly Rs. 32 crore) in unsolicited funds after using NFT tickets to invite the art and music festival.

Now, Binance intends to collaborate with SS Lazio to make NFT tickets available for all the club's home games. Asides from quicker access to all home games, holders of the NFT tickets will also get a Europa league match discount. Also, ticket holders will have unique discounts and giveaways at the Lazio store.

Floor prices of some of the most popular collections of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) rose over the past 24 hours, as the US Federal Reserve (Fed) on Wednesday announced yet another rate hike in line with what the market was expecting.

According to the NFT data provider DappRadar, the floor prices of the popular NFT collections Mutant Ape Yacht Club, Bored Ape Yacht Club, Otherdeed for Otherside, and CryptoPunks all rose by over 17% in the past 24 hours as of Thursday at 11:11 UTC.

Most bullish among the four collections was Mutant Ape Yacht Club, which saw its floor price rise by nearly 27% over the past 24 hours to USD 27,390, per DappRadar. CryptoPunks came in second with a floor price of USD 115,860, up 23% over the same time period.

The floor price of a collection is the lowest price a single NFT from that collection is selling for at any given time.

And while prices rose, trading volumes also ticked higher. For the Mutant Ape Yacht Club collection, volume was up a strong 139% for the past day to USD 1.17m. Meanwhile, Bored Ape Yacht Club saw its volume rise by 6% to USD 889,040, and Otherdeed rose by 14% to USD 777,630.

The city of Miami in the US is looking to release a total of 5,000 non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the Ethereum blockchain. Francis X. Suarez, the pro-Web3 mayor of Miami has roped in three partners to facilitate this NFT release — Mastercard, Time USA, and Salesforce. The release of these NFTs is expected to happen in December, after the Ethereum blockchain transitions to its upcoming eco-friendly update called the ‘Merge' that is slated to go live around September 19.

Miami's upcoming NFT pieces are being designed by 56 local artists representing the city's 56 square mile area.

“Miami has been on the vanguard of the Web3 revolution and we will continue to employ these new technologies to support our existing businesses while attracting new ones, raise capital and provide experiences for our citizens and those visiting this great city. At the same time, we can also use this novel approach to support local artists and charities,” Suarez said in an official blog post published by the government of Miami.

Interest in non-fungible tokens (NFTs) saw a massive surge throughout the summer of 2021. After a year, the NFT market's trading volume has plummeted. Due to the lowest trading volumes in a year and the growing epidemic of NFT hacks, interest in NFTs has decreased along with the overall cryptocurrency market. Data from top NFT trading marketplaces such as OpenSea reveals that trading volumes have fallen off a cliff in recent months, now at their lowest levels since July 2021.

According to crypto analytics community Dune data, OpenSea's trading volume hit a peak of around $5.8 billion (roughly Rs. 46,408 crore) in January. However, trading on the platform has steadily declined throughout the first two quarters of the year, sliding to $3.1 billion (roughly Rs. 24,805 crore) in May.

June saw the most significant drop in the exchange's history compared to earlier months as trading volumes plummeted a whopping 74 percent to $826 million (roughly Rs. 6,610 crore). Extending the slide, OpenSea has seen $456.9 million (roughly Rs. 3,655 crore) so far this month with three full days remaining.

An analysis of recent hacks targeting non-fungible token (NFT) projects carried out through the social media platform Discord shows that many of them are part of a larger string of attacks, according to blockchain intelligence company TRM Labs.

Such attacks have rapidly risen over the past three months, and since May 2022, the NFT community has lost as much as USD 22m.

Last June, phishing attacks related to NFT minting scams carried out via compromised Discord accounts rose by 55% compared with May 2022, the firm’s researchers said in a recent report.

TRM Labs stated that one of the NFT project exploits that could be linked to other hacks is Yuga Labs, the company behind the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collection.

“Yuga Labs’ Discord servers were hacked on June 4th when BorisVagner.ETH, Social Manager at Yuga Labs, had his verified Discord account compromised. While in control of the verified account, the hacker began to post promotional material to the account’s Discord community,” according to the report.

With the deadline for UK art superstar Damien Hirst’s The Currency NFT burn expired today, artwork owners were forced to answer a paramount question: do they wish to burn their NFT in exchange for the artist’s corresponding original work on paper, or keep the token? As it turns out, slightly more owners opted to drop digital art and receive it in a physical form.

As the countdown ended, a total of 5,149 NFTs had been burned, or close to 51.5% of the total, and their owners were awarded physical artworks in exchange, according to the project’s official website.

“The collector has to decide between the digital NFT or the physical artwork, but can not keep both. This exchange is a one-way process, so choose carefully,” according to the site.

As a result, a total of 4,851 NFTs are remaining, and the same number of corresponding physical pieces will be destroyed, as declared by the artist. Before this happens, however, Hirst says he will organize an exhibition of the paper artworks at Newport Street Gallery in London, opening on September 9, 2022.

While many think the current crypto winter is not the best time to launch an NFT project, the Lady Ape Club (LAC) presents a different view. Just a few days after listing on OpenSea, the new Lady Ape NFTs became among the top 10 collections by 24-hour trading volume on OpenSea.

On July 25, 2022, the LAC’s 24-hour volume exceeded 210 ETH, surpassing the popular Mutant Ape Yach Club (MAYC) collection on OpenSea. This hike in volume represents users’ appetite to buy the Lady Apes following the sale of 9,000 NFTs in four hours on STRMNFT — the new marketplace that held LAC’s initial sale.

LAC is a new NFT collection illustrated by the artists of TNC Group, one of UAE’s blockchain consultant pioneers. This collection comprises 10,000 unique female apes artwork, which from first sight, they look like an ideal companion to the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC).

A few weeks after its inception last May, the LAC project announced its plans to list 9,000 NFTs for initial sale on STRMNFT. As the new collection was gaining more popularity, TNC Group opened a limited-time pre-sale booking on STRMNFT for a selected group of users. The Bill Murray 1000 collection consists of 1,000 NFTs comprising 100 unique stories containing anecdotes, observations, advice, memories, “Murray-isms”, and more. A recent nonfungible token (NFT) listing on GameStop’s marketplace became the center of controversy in the NFT world. The listing received heavy backlash from the community, which prompted the marketplace to take action within a day, showing how a community can come together to reverse the wrong.

The NFT in question, titled “Falling Man,” showed a man in a space suit falling downwards. The NFT in question had quite a resemblance to the infamous 9/11 photo of a man falling to his death that has since s become a defining moment of the deadly attacks. Many believed the NFT was mimicking the 9/11 victim and also infringed on the copyright of the image taken by original photojournalist Richard Drew.

In another discussion on the meme stock subreddit GME_Meltdown, a user pointed out that the figure in the NFT is a rendering of an existing 3D model of a Russian flight suit created by an independent artist, which was used without the permission of the original artist.

The GameStop team eventually took down the NFT and even banned the creator behind the art from minting on the platform

Well, when you have based your entire ecosystem around a specific game and that game says they want nothing to do with you, that kind of throws a wrench into things. That’s precisely what happened this past week when Minecraft and MicrosoftMSFT announced that third parties would not be able to use the Minecraft ecosystem for web3/crypto/blockchain/NFT-based projects.

Problem is? Many of those were already in the works, including some massive undertakings like NFT World, which already had millions poured into it on the basis that it would exist within Minecraft. Now, that can no longer happen and the game’s response is…ambitious, to say the least.

A noted non-fungible token (NFT) collector has lost ETH 100 (USD 148,665) as a result of a "joke" bid on one of his own Ethereum Name Service (ENS) domains.

The pseudonymous NFT whale Franklin, who holds a number of valuable Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs (among others), minted the ENS name stop-doing-fake-bids-its-honestly-lame-my-guy.eth and put it up for sale using his secondary Ethereum wallet on Tuesday, but also placed a bid of ETH 100 using his main wallet.

Today, he sold that ENS domain to someone else for ETH 1.9 (USD 2,825) and took it to Twitter to celebrate his profit, writing: "Well this is the most surprising 1.891 ETH I have ever made."

The META HISTORY project team created Ukraine’s first NFT war museum one month after Russia’s full-scale war. Since then we have managed to raise $1,290,398 (803.28 ETH) for the Aid For Ukraine crypto fund, created by the Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation together with the Ukrainian crypto platform KUNA and the blockchain company Everstake, and the Charity Foundation of Serhiy Prytula.

Begone Unwanted NFT Traits
Regardless of which NFT one buys, there is always some degree of digital art associated with it. That art can be an image, a video, music, or other data. It may not have the traits we want, and there is often no way of doing anything about it. Although some collections provide Breeding solutions to turn less favorable non-fungible tokens into a more appealing solution, one cannot ignore the potential trade-offs.

When “breeding” NFTs, you are effectively destroying the value of those tokens in search of a new token that may or may not have any value. It is a common approach by creators to make collections much more scarce as the overall supply of “initial” NFTs decreases strongly. In most cases, one needs two, three, or four non-fungible tokens to “breed”, which seems rather steep.
