The past couple of weeks, my household has been listening to a lot of Frank Sinatra, Miles Davis, and other 1950s jazz. I have a writing project that is embedded in the 1950s, and I'm doing some background listening.
In my head, I can hear Frank singing "There's a Rainbow 'Round My Shoulder" it's one of his best songs. And I thought, "yes, that's what I want to play on my show this week." The thing is, I can find no recording ,no indication, of Frank ever singing this song. I listened to a bunch others -- Al Jolson, Dean Martin, Frankie Laine, Bobby Darin -- nobody can sing it like Frank in my head. Hands down, Brian Setzer has the best version out there.
We'll listen to that, other Sinatra songs, and Ela Orleans, Earth Wind & Fire, Allen Ginsburg, Sharon Jones, Oliver Elf Army, Alarm Will Sound. Lots lots more.
Great show this week!
