In case you’re interested in learning a little bit more about the character Red Guardian in Marvel’s upcoming film Black Widow, David Harbour shared some details offering a little insight into the character’s history and origin. The information was shared in the new book, Black Widow: The Official Movie Special Book, and the actor said:

"He grew up in the Soviet Union during the arms race. He was a soldier. He was chosen for this program as the Americans were developing weapons and, of course, Captain America. The Russians were slow to catch up, but they wanted to fight back with their own version of Captain America. He was shot up with a super-strength serum and trained in a certain way. But he didn't become as famous as Captain America – nobody really knows who he is."

He also talks about his connection to Natasha and the Russian spy family that they were a part of. We previously shared this quote:

"The connection to him and Black Widow is that they were set up as a spy family in America in the '90s. So, Rachel Weisz's Melina, was sort of the mom, Alexei was the dad, and Natasha and Yelena [Florence Pugh] were their kids. We see that in the beginning of the movie, and they sort of function as a family. They knew each other from long ago and then they lost touch for almost twenty years. He took her from the Red Room and also put her back into the Red Room because he believed in this cause.

“They knew each other from long ago and then they lost touch for almost twenty years. And when we pick up, Alexei’s had this deep knowledge of Natasha in a certain way that no one else had when she was a kid. He took her from the Red Room and also put her back into the Red Room because he believed in this cause."

There’s no doubt that Red Guardian is going to be a fun character in Black Widow. Unfortunately, we’ve got to wait until the Summer of next year to see the film. That is, unless Disney decides to release it on Disney+, which Harbour has said he’s fine with, saying:

"I’m very much looking forward to being in Black Widow if we ever are able to release that movie. I would love to be able to watch that movie too – y’know I have not seen that movie. I have seen some stuff in ADR and it looks really good. And also I was there when we were shooting it and I’m really excited about it. But I would like to see it myself. Hell, I would watch it on Disney+."

As you know, Warner Bros. recently made the decision to release Wonder Woman 1984 in theaters on HBO Max on the same day. A lot of fans have been wondering if Disney would consider doing the same thing with Black Widow.

As of right now, Black Widow is set to hit theaters on May 7, 2021.

We’ve got a couple of new photos to share with you from Marvel’s highly-anticipated WandaVision series. Kevin Feige also talked about the series in an interview with Empire and confirms some things that we can expect to see.

Feige explains that this series is going to help understand Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch a lot better on this series, give us a whole new understanding of who she is, and also show us what she can exactly do with her powers.

“If you look at the Infinity Saga, I don’t think any single person has gone through more pain and trauma than Wanda Maximoff. And no character seems to be as powerful as Wanda Maximoff. And no character has a power-set that is as ill-defined and unexplored as Wanda Maximoff. So it seemed exploring that would be worthwhile post-Endgame. Who else is aware of that power? Where did it come from? Did the Mind Stone unlock it?”

The concept behind the story for this six-episode series is certainly an interesting and unique one as it’s an adventure through sitcom history. The reports saying the series is “bringing superhero set-pieces and psychological character study to an unabashed love-letter to classic domestic situation comedies.”

The series will feature sitcoms from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980, 1990s, and the 2000s. We know that there will be Leave it to Beaver, Dick Van D**e Show, I Love Lucy, and Bewitched themed episodes. I personally heard about a year ago that there would also be a Modern Family inspired episode. Feige has now confirmed that and also added that there will be an episode inspired by The Office, which should be fun!

“I loved TV, and watched far too much The Dick Van D**e Show and I Love Lucy and Bewitched and everything. We go up to the Modern Family and The Office style. The talk-to-the-camera, shaky-camera, documentary style.”

Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany reprise their roles in the series, which picks up after Endgame. It’s explained, “We find Wanda and Vision living a blissful suburban existence, trying to keep their powers under wraps. But as the newlyweds cycle through the decades — and the familiar TV tropes — they realize their white-picket-fence life may not be as gleamingly picture-perfect as it seems.”

The series will also start Wanda Maximoff down the path of actually becoming Scarlet Witch, and the story will have repercussions for the entire future of the MCU in Phase 4. The series will tie into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will crack open the multiverse.

The series also stars Kat Dennings reprising her role as Darcy Lewis and Randall Park returning as FBI Agent Jimmy Woo from Ant-Man and the Wasp. It will also feature MCU newcomer Teyonah Parris as the grown-up version of Monica Rambeau, a character who first made her appearance in last year’s Captain Marvel, and Karthryn Hahn is playing Agatha Harkness.

The series is being developed by Jac Schaeffer (Captain Marvel), who is serving as the series’ producer, showrunner, and head writer. Matt Shakman is directing the series.

Marvel’s WandaVision will drop on January 15th, 2021. I also include a piece of cartoon-style art previously shared by Marvel Concept Artist Andy Park that he made for the series.

Before Marvel Studios kickstarted a new superhero movie revolution with Iron Man, Christopher Nolan was out doing amazing things with Batman. The Dark Knight trilogy that he directed is an incredible feat. He took superhero films to a new level and set a high bar that DC still has yet to reach with the more recent DC films that they’ve made.

Nolan had the opportunity to make those Batman films at the right time. It was a perfect storm of circumstances for him where he was given creative freedom and there were less commercial pressures to worry about. The filmmaker recently talked about the advantages he had with making these films at the time that he did during a virtual discussion promoting Tom Shore's book The Nolan Variations:

“It was the right moment in time for the telling of the story I wanted to do. The origin story for Batman had never been addressed in film or fully in the comics. There wasn’t a particular or exact thing we had to follow. There was a gap in movie history. Superman had a very definitive telling with Christopher Reeve and Richard Donner. The version of that with Batman had never been told. We were looking at this telling of an extraordinary figure in an ordinary world.”

Nolan also talked about how this, and the fact that how with no pre-existing template to follow and with comic book films not an established genre yet, allowed for “creative freedom” and the opportunity to “show the studio this is what it can be.”

The director went on to explain that “the other advantage we had was back then you could take more time between sequels. When we did Batman Begins, we didn’t know we’d do one and it took three years to do it and then four years before the next one. We had the luxury of time. It didn’t feel like a machine, an engine of commerce for the studio. As the genre becomes so successful, those pressures become greater and greater. It was the right time.”

Things definitely worked out in Nolan’s favor. There’s no way he would have had those advantages today in trying to make a Batman film. Nolan was just at the right place at the right time to make his Batman trilogy.
