Sophia, a talking humanoid robot, is being readied for mass production during the pandemic.

"The world of COVID-19 is going to need more and more automation to keep people safe," Hanson Robotics founder David Hanson told Reuters.

Hanson said the company hoped to sell thousands of robots in the first half of 2021, according to Reuters. Based in Hong Kong, Hanson Robotics had been iterating on its Sophia design since introducing it in 2016. It was one of four models ready for mass production, according to Reuters.

In the years since Sophia's introduction, the robot has popped up at conferences, broken hearts, and talked to reporters, including several interviews with Insider. In 2018, the robot even sang a duet with Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show.

Pixel phones will now be able to read your heart and respiratory rates with their cameras, as Google adds heart and respiratory rate monitors to its Fit app. The tech giant plans on expanding this feature to other Android phones in the future as well.

This new feature relies on the smartphone camera, which measures the heart rate by tracking changes in color as blood moves through the fingertip, and the respiratory rate by monitoring the rise and fall of the user's chest.

Google explained that these monitors will only allow users to track their overall wellness and cautioned that these monitors should not be used for diagnosing medical conditions - which is why it does not need clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to add them to the app at this point.

The tech giant also explained that a lot of economically disadvantaged people cannot afford other wearables that will allow them to effectively track their heart and respiratory rates.

Apple will bring a new ultrawide angle camera with a brighter f/1.8 lens to all iPhone 13 models, according to a note by Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Thomas O'Malley.

That information differs from a previous report by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said only the Pro models will get the new camera.

The new f/1.8 lens will increase the amount of light reaching the sensor over the f/2.4 lens used on current iPhone ultrawides.

It's also likely that Apple will increase the sensor size of the new ultrawide angle cameras as the current 1/3.6" fades when compared to the Galaxy S21 Ultra's 1/2.55" or the Huawei Mate 40 Pro's mammoth 1/1.54".

The Barclays analysts' report goes on to say that Apple will continue using the 12MP f/2.2 65mm 2.5x camera, exclusive to this year's 12 Pro Max, in the iPhone 13 series and will extend it from the Pro Max to the Pro as well.

HTC has an interesting history full of ups and downs. Founded in 1997, it was once among the biggest players in the smartphone industry, though it hasn’t been able to keep up with the competition in recent years. Sales and market share have both fallen drastically since the company’s peak in 2011,

HTC was a step ahead of the competition back in the day. The company released the first-ever Android phone in 2008, called the HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1 in the U.S.). It received fairly positive reviews and was quite popular, selling over a million units in the first year.

The tech giant also launched the first-ever handset running Windows Mobile. Called the HTC Canary (in a coal mine?), it debuted in 2002 and was sold in Europe and China. Additionally, HTC released the first 3G-capable Windows Mobile phone in the world as well. It was called MTeoR and revealed in 2006. Sadly, Windows Mobile didn’t end up faring much better than HTC.

Xiaomi has introduced its latest wireless charging tech - Mi Air Charge - which can charge multiple devices simultaneously. It will also be able to recharge a smartphone that’s being used while walking around or even when something’s in the way.

The transmitter of the charge can provide a 5W charge wirelessly to a smartphone and has nothing to do with the Qi standard. The smartphones need to be outfitted with a “miniaturized antenna array with built-in ‘beacon antenna’ and ‘receiving antenna array’.” The smartphone has 14 antennas to convert a millimeter wave signal that’s emitted by the charging pile. The signal is converted into electric energy through a rectifier circuit.

In its current state, Xiaomi’s remote charging technology can charge multiple devices with a 5W current within a radius of “several meters”. Xiaomi claims that physical objects don’t reduce the charging efficiency.
