The TURL is back and the theme for Trinity is LIMINALITY! ✨🌥🍄

Feel free to interpret this however you want- the in-between space of different periods of life, the transition from spring to summer, the conflict between internal and external, the feeling of déjà vu or nostalgia, or even the experience of looking out at the world through a window…

We want the theme to be as loose and free as possible, so even if you don’t think you work exactly fits ‘liminality,’ send it to us anyway! We accept any and every type of visual art, prose, poetry, short fiction or essays/comment - and everything else creative that’s not listed above.

New Year, New Term, New Editors, New Theme

The Turl is back for Hillary 2022 and this term's theme... Rebirth.

We can't wait to see visual art, poetry, prose, essays, articles and anything else creative you can think up inspired by the theme. Think renewal, transitions, change, childhood, growth, development and anything else that Springs to mind.

Everyone and Anyone is welcome to contribute (provided your college is on Turl Street!) whether its something new or something you've previously worked on if you think it would fit the theme.

Put your post-collections joy (or sadness) to work. Harness your frustration at too many essays. Marvel at the fact that it is slightly lighter than it was last time. But whatever you do, submit it to The Turl.

This term’s theme is...

‘Remember, Remember’

As always we love to see what visual art, poetry, creative writing, essays, articles, and other creative content this inspires for you guys! For some starting points, think anything from Bonfire Night associations to Remembrance Day, memory, reflection, vigil, memorial, childhood, autumn, wise words, learning, echoing, mirror images, doubling, and so on.

Remember anyone wanting to showcase something creative is welcome to contribute, it can even be projects you’ve previously worked on that you think would fit the theme.

We especially encourage freshers to submit their work, and join the incredible creative community here on Turl St!

Hello lovely people of Jesus, Exeter and Lincoln!!

We’re back for Trinity term and are loving Oxford in the sun!

We thought we’d come at this term with some magical summer vibes with our theme: WONDERLAND!

Thinking vast landscapes, funfairs, fairy grottos, shady forests, nostalgia trips, summer nightlife, daydreaming, magical places in the mind, and wherever else things come alive or go to hide!

These are just some initial brainstorms, we are of course so much more excited for what you guys come up with!

We’re looking for all variations of creative work including visual art, fiction, poetry, articles, reviews, comment etc.

It’s finally here!! The Turl HT2021!!

It has been such a great experience working with all these incredible student creatives! So a big thank you to everyone who sent us contributions! Please show them your support by going to our website and seeing their work in our new edition: https://turlmagazineoxford.wixsite.com/online.

Unfortunately, due to working remotely this term, we aren’t able to print physical copies :(( But we are so proud of the end product that all this virtual collaborative effort has created and excited to get back to in-person meetings and printed editions as soon as we can!

We’re still accepting submissions for the TURL!!

Send us all your writing/art — we’d love to be able to showcase it alongside all the incredible submissions we’ve had so far!!

The theme ‘crystallising’ is very loose — we’ve had some really interesting takes on it, from reviews of powerful and destabilising media, to personal essays on moments of clarity and forming the self. It’s amazing the variety of ways contributors have confirmed and deconstructed understandings of the theme. I’m even writing a random poem on the seaside and caramel. So just have a play!!
