While Derek Swallow is working tirelessly on our latest edition of the Van Isle Poetry Collective, I have been working on a project of my own! I (April Hilland), have just published my 7th picture book. It's so exciting to see each book getting better and better. Bringing in professional editors, graphic designers, and illustrators is WORTH IT! This title is particularly meaningful to me as I am a teacher-librarian and this book is about censorship and book banning. I hope to bring this to classrooms all over to help have important discussions about the freedom to read.

Prizes include $250.00 for first place, $100.00 for second, and $50.00 for third, with honorable mentions to be published in our Summer 2023 edition. Entry fee is $20 for the first poem and $5 for each additional entry.
