The impetus for my husband Mark and I to start our own publishing company, began with our own experience of going through the publishing process. After writing my first children's book, I started looking at my publishing options. Self-publishing is fine, but I wanted my book to be a notch-above, I wanted it to look and be professional. I started researching the larger publishers and was floored by
how long the entire process takes and what stringent controls publishers have over the writer's work. My book is a piece of art, it's a piece of my soul and I just couldn't stomach the thought of someone else making decisions on illustrations/format/language, etc. Thus the idea of Blue Coyote Press™was born. We started with the thought of simply publishing our own works, but then I thought "Hey, if I feel this way about publishing, there must be others who feel similarly!"
The name of our company has a very special , three-pronged meaning. If you read the legend of the blue coyote, you'll understand that our name is rooted in sacredness, earthiness, and humility. We never want to lose the "blue," that started us on this journey. Also, the coyote is a revered totem who has visited my dreams and provided guidance during difficult times. Finally, our daughter's middle name is Bleau (pronounced Blue), and she was the guiding light/inspiration for my first book. In the coming years we plan on providing a full-service, one-stop for writers who want to publish. This will include editing, lay-out, contracting illustrators, printing, and marketing. Our goal is to provide constructive feedback and create professional books for our client,, but also to maintain the original vision of the writer. Blue Coyote Press™ believes that writing is a sacred art, an expression of the individual, and we honor your vision.
