CAPSU bags 2nd place Likha award in NICE 2024

The Capiz State University (CAPSU) bagged 2nd place in the government-funded creative research (Likha) category during the National Invention Contest and Exhibits (NICE) 2024, held at the Manila Ballroom, Marriott Hotel, Pasay City, July 16-18.

Dr. Efren L. Linan, Vice President for Research, Development and Extension together with Engr. Monalyn L. Oloroso, a faculty member at CAPSU Burias Campus, personally received the said award in behalf of CAPSU President Dr. Editha C. Alfon.

CAPSU's award-winning entry, the "Fiber XMach," a device for extracting coarse and fine fibers from pineapple leaves, was developed by Dr. Linan, Engr. Oloroso, and Engr. Julito A. Albaladejo, and funded by the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEETRD).

NICE is a bi-annual event organized by the Department of Science and Technology - Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI), showcasing one of a kind innovations of Filipino inventors in the field of research and development.

CAPSU holds oath-taking ceremony, orientation program to newly hired and promoted personnel

A total of 315 newly hired and promoted teaching and non-teaching personnel of Capiz State University (CAPSU) took their oath today, July 18, at the Dadivas Gymnasium, CAPSU Roxas City Main Campus.

Dr. Wennie F. Legario, Vice President for Administration and Finance, warmly welcomed the newly hired and promoted personnel across from the three campuses, six satellite colleges, and central administration of this University.

CAPSU President Editha C. Alfon expressed her warm congratulations and conveyed her message of challenge which was accepted by Dr. Ryan T. Sarimong, newly promoted Professor IV at CAPSU Burias Campus.

Proceeding to the orientation proper, Dr. Ronilo G. Berondo, University Director for Training Services, introduced Dir. Vizur-ty C. Gaitano, Director II of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Capiz Field Office as the honorable resource speaker of the program.

Dir. Gaitano delved into various pivotal topics such as government working hours, code of ethics, leave laws, and values formation that a public servant must know.

Dr. Susan O. Dangan, Vice President for Academic Affairs formally closed the activity.

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦 | Faculty and staff conducted a seminar and team building activity at Marama Beach Resort, Lonoy, Sapian, Capiz on July 12.

Following the successful mangrove planting initiative at Guibongan, Lonoy, Sapian, Capiz, the faculty and staff of CAPSU Mambusao embraced a seamless transition from environmental stewardship to intellectual enrichment.

They convened for a seminar meticulously crafted to delve into the nuances of leadership within educational institutions. This pivotal gathering not only underscored their commitment to ecological preservation but also highlighted their dedication to nurturing effective leadership qualities among educators.

The seminar served as a vibrant forum where ideas flourished, experiences were shared, and strategies were honed to empower the academic community towards greater achievements and impactful contributions to society.

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦 | CAPSU Mambusao conducted a mangrove tree planting activity in Sitio Guibongan, Brgy. Lonoy, Sapian, Capiz on July 12.

Under the guidance of passionate educators and driven student-leaders, CAPSU Mambusao orchestrated a meaningful mangrove planting event.

This initiative not only aims to physically plant mangrove saplings but also seeks to foster environmental awareness and community engagement.

By involving faculty, staff, and students, this activity promotes a sense of responsibility and stewardship towards the environment among participants.

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦 | CAPSU Mambusao faculty, staff and students participate in the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill for the second quarter of 2024.

Since it is summer, only teachers on vacation/sick leave and employees joined the drill.

Incoming freshmen who are processing their enrollment and parents around also took part.

Every quarter of the year, the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council through the Office of Civil Defense conducts earthquake drill to raise awareness and preparedness for earthquakes, which can happen anytime and anywhere.

NSED is a national event which involves the participation of government entities, non-governmental organizations, private and academic institutions, media, as well as other stakeholders.

Hinihimok ng Office of Civil Defense ang mga mamamayang Pilipino na makilahok sa pangalawang Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill ngayong taong 2024 na isasagawa bukas, Hunyo 28.

Layunin ng NSED na mabigyan ng pagkakataon ang mga mamamayan na isagawa ang "Duck, Cover at Hold" bilang paghahanda sakaling dumating ang lindol lalo na ang pinangangambahang "The Big One."

Kaya inaanyayahan ang mga g**o, empleyado at mag-aaral ng Capiz State University - Mambusao Satellite College na makilahok bukas, Hunyo 28, sa Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill ganap na alas-2 ng hapon.

Antabayanan lamang ang tunog ng alarm bilang hudyat na nagsisimula na ang nasabing drill.

The research article titled "Students’ Language Diversity at CAPSU MSC" authored by Joey O. Luces, Leonel T. Bolido, Mercy G. Llagas, and Ryan L. Launio, under the guidance of their adviser, Dr. Maria Aurora G. Victoriano has been evaluated and reviewed by the editorial board of the Institute of Industry and Academic Research Inc. and hereby accepted for presentation in the International Conference on Multidisciplinary Industry and Academic Research (ICMIAR), in Shah Alam, Malaysia, and online via Zoom on July 19-20, 2024.

𝑷𝒖𝒃𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏

The research paper is set to be published also in a peer-reviewed international journal indexed by notable databases including the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), Google Scholar, Crossref, and Index Copernicus International.

On this day in the year 1861, José Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda was born in Calamba, Laguna to Francisco Rizal Mercado and Teodora Alonso Realonda y Quintos.

Rizal is widely considered one of the greatest heroes of the Philippines. He wrote the novels Noli Me Tángere (1887) and El Filibusterismo (1891), which together are taken as a national epic, in addition to numerous poems and essays.

𝗘𝗶𝗱 𝗔𝗹-𝗔𝗱𝗵𝗮 𝗠𝘂𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗸!

Eid al-Adha, also known as the “Eid of Sacrifice” (Festival of Sacrifice), is an important religious holiday in Islam.

It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of loyalty to God. However, just as Ibrahim was about to sacrifice his son, God provided a lamb as a substitute.

Eid al-Adha is celebrated on the 10th day of the 12th Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah, which is the last month of the Islamic lunar calendar, and there is also great significance around Eid al-Adha, as it marks the completion of Hajj (pilgrimage to the holy land of Mecca)—one of the five major pillars of Islam.

Muslims commemorate this event by sacrificing an animal, such as a sheep, goat, or cow, following specific guidelines and rituals. One of the main customs is attending the special morning prayer at the mosque. After the prayer, families gather to share a festive meal and exchange gifts. It's also common to visit relatives and friends, as well as give to those in need through acts of charity.

The sacrifice serves as a reminder of the importance of sacrifice, obedience, and submission to God's will. It also emphasizes the values of generosity, sharing, and caring for those in need. The act of sacrificing an animal is seen as an expression of gratitude and a means of seeking closeness to God.

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗙𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆

In the vast spectrum of life, our lives are moulded into a single plethora filled with humanity and experiences. Pillars of the household as they are called, the beacon of strength and resilience are clothed in their fatherly physique. Oftentimes, we mistook their dominance for rage yet they care in such a manner that we cannot fathom.

May this Father's Day celebration remind us that men alike to other people are human beings too. They are capable of feeling pain, joy, sorrows and all types of emotions that exist. May we never forget to extend our gratitude for their sacrifices and neverending hardwork in order to uplift their own respective families.

It is indeed a celebration of perseverance and commitment!

I reflect on my journey in journalism, I've come to understand that we are all blank canvases, and it is up to us to craft our own narratives. Through my involvement with The Courier, I've discovered the vast potential of my mind, satisfied my curiosity, and learned the transformative power of writing.

"Writing is the art of turning thoughts into words and words into influence," and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to hone this craft alongside such a talented and dedicated team. My dream of becoming editor-in-chief has been a lifelong aspiration, and I am deeply grateful to our Publication Adviser, Sir Freden, for believing in my abilities.

It has been an honor to have served as your EIC, and I will always cherish the lessons and wisdom I gained from our Publication. To the entire editorial board, you are an exceptional group of talented individuals, and I am proud to have witnessed your dedication to our publication.

To the next generation of writers, I urge you to write your own stories and share them with the world. Seize the opportunity to be the voice of your peers and make a positive impact through your thoughts. As you write, remember to keep your purpose and goals in mind.

To the next Editor-in-Chief, I have every confidence that the publication is in capable hands. Your intellect and passion for writing will undoubtedly propel The Courier to new heights.
