For day 8 of , “ghost”, I went 2 different directions. One is the legendary woman in white that pops up in legends all over the world, and the 2nd a cutesie ghost.

My very, very behind (playing catch-up as quick as my iPad will let me lol) contribution to !

I caught a “changing of the season” cold, and missed the beginning of the month, but I dug through last night, and found this lovely challenge hosted by , and it sounded so sweet, and cozy… I’ve been digging through my books on hygge again, and this just fits the vibe.

Back in 2020, before the world erupted in carnage, I drummed up some sketches for possible enamel pin ideas.

One of them was for this very silly idea of an octopus on the bike come with his tentacles flying behind him in the breeze.

Those of you who know me, know that octopi have been a recurring theme for me, with a few variations of octopus logo is, and an octopus mug being sold at one point.

So when I decided that Mandy, Sue Designs was a little bit of a boring name, and didn’t really reflect me, I started trying to figure out what would be the best thing to name my art business, and then I ran across my long forgotten sketches, and I knew.

I kept seeing mushroom inspired 70s illustrations, which always makes me think of lol.

But anyone who knows about me, knows that I am OBSESSED with Alice in Wonderland… so I thought I’d give it a shot, making a full illustration of a 70s inspired Alice.

Oops. I’m sort of late… not really, because it’s the 6th in the US, but I’ve been trying to post these a day ahead, to keep up with the lovely hosts at .

Yesterday my oldest wasn’t feeling well, so I spent the day taking care of her, and keeping the other kids out of her hair… no small feat when we’re living in a hotel, lol.

Today, I had it in my head that I was way behind, so I’ve already got my 80s design ready for tomorrow. 😂😂😂

Anyway, this was a ton of fun. I’ve never really done anything with the liquefy feature, so today was a great opportunity for that.

Todays pattern is the 60s… I debated about what color to make the background, but in the end I went with a darkened version of the deep blue in this months palette. I also did a black background for extra pop.

The theme of the month is retro, and todays is “50s”. This is possibly the most chaotic thing I’ve ever designed lol. But it was a ton of fun, and just the thing to take me out of my comfort zone.

New Substack post has dropped! I set up several social media accounts today, and figured I’d dig in and get my blog up, before I let that empty page psych me out.

It’s a beautiful series, dark, haunting (of course), and it has some of the most nuanced depictions of grief that I’ve seen. It’s also a very beautiful depiction of a complicated family dynamic, which I’m well acquainted with, lol.

We’re all doing a class together, to burn time in the hotel. This is a 21 day class from , and it’s taught by .

Today had these adorable marshmallow characters. Swipe to see my 9yo’s drawing… on the first day, he made a character he dubbed “Fred”. He said he was going to put Fred into every day, so today he said “Fred’s eating the marshmallow, that’s why the rest of them look so freaked out!” 😂😂😂
