Women + Business: All Good Things
They say that all good things must end, and I have to agree. This is the last episode of Women + Business that will air. While I've enjoyed doing the show and I hope it's put some good into the world, it's time to move on to other things. I couldn't, however, move on without taking a moment to talk about what this show has brought to my life and to say thank you to those who supported it. So, we'll have one last wrap up show before the end. I hope you'll join me to share some laughs, memories and, if I'm lucky, a bit of wisdom.
Women + Business: Speak Up For Yourself
Since this is mental health awareness month, I wanted to talk about something that often happens to people who deal with mental health issues. They forget to, or are trained to, speak up for themselves. Either they've lived through trauma and been gaslit, ignored or punished and finally convinced that speaking up is pointless and dangerous. Or they've been through medical experiences where they are either ignored, shamed or not believed. The end result is a person who stuffs their anger and hurt and doesn't advocate for herself. In this show we'll talk about why people don't speak up, and how, and how not to, advocate for yourself, your needs and your feelings.
Women + Business: Persistence: How to Keep Going
Yet she persisted is a popular saying these days, but what does persistence really mean. It means staying the course even when it's difficult, staying optimistic even when there seems to be no reason for optimism, and believing you can do what needs to be done when circumstances might indicate otherswise. In this show we'll talking about what it takes to be persistent, why persistence is a good thing to have and what to do when your stock of persistence seems low.
Women+ Business: A Peek Behind the Curtain: Women and Social Media
A discussion about using social media as a woman, the risks, how to know what to share and what not to share, and how to find your own comfort level with the image you build for yourself on social media. This broadcast is a rerun of a previous recording.
Women + Business: Running a Successful Facebook Group
Over the years I've been paid to run Facebook groups and I've run them for free. I've increased engagement by huge percentages and drawn tons of new members to the group. In this show I'll share some of my tips for building a successful Facebook group. Hard work, consistency and responsiveness will help you build the group you want and need.
Women + Business: Quit It or Grit It: How to Know When to Walk Away
Tenacity is a virtue that is almost fetishized in this country. We like people who stick with it and stick to it until the bitter end. Sometimes, though, refusing to quit causes harm and distress. In this show, we'll talk about how to know when to stay the course and when pushing toward a goal can cause you harm. This broadcast originally aired January 26, 2022
Women + Business: Finding Your Path and Walking It
For some people, finding their path is simple, there's a clearly defined way that leads to where they want to go and following that path while it may be challenging, isn't difficult. For others, finding their path and following it can be more complicated. Maybe the path isn't clearly defined. Maybe finding the right path is confusing. Maybe they've been told for years that the path they want to follow leads to disaster. In this show, we'll discuss how to find your path, knowing which path is right for you, and how to trust you're walking the right path.
Women + Business: Trust: Getting It, Keeping It and Believing It
Trust is fragile and, for some, a hard thing to give. In this show we'll talk about how to build trust, how to be trustworthy, and what to do if you have trouble trusting others.
Women + Business: Weighty Matters
Issues with weight are not only a women's issue, but there are ways in which weight impacts women which may not necessarily be the same for men. Women are often judged and criticized on their appearance, the standards for what's acceptable are more rigid, and studies have shown weight can hold women back in their jobs, their romances and their social life. In this show we'll talk about weight, what our culture tells us about women and weight, and how to stop letting the number on the scale rule your life.
Women + Business: How To Stop People Pleasing
This is one of those shows that comes out of something I'm fighting. I tend to take on a ton of tasks and the caretaker role in an effort to please others. A lot of women do this, and we need to stop, because it benefits neither us nor the others we're trying to please. This show will talk about why we take on this role, and how to stop this cycle.
Women + Business: Who Writes History (And Why Women Often Don't Appear
History, it is said, is written by the victors. It's certainly written by the people in power. Women are often left out of history, and historical events that negatively impact them may not downplayed or whitewashed. In this show we'll discuss some stories that all women should know and talk a bit about how to change the historical narrative.
Women + Business: Ashley Ciccero
A conversation with Ashley Ciccero from Artesprix. She just became a new mom, so you know we'll talk about that. We'll also chat about being the face of a company, products that help small businesses grow and more.
Women + Business: Stephanie Young
A chat with Stephanie Young from So Stephanie Says and Siser NA about being an educator, balancing work and family and sharing what you know and what you love.
Women + Business: Riding the Business Roller Coaster
We all know that owning your own business brings both ups and downs. Money ebbs and flows. Clients come and go. Dealing with the uncertainty and changes can be stressful. Managing the possibilities and options can be overwhelming. In this show we'll talk some strategies for dealing with the roller coaster ride of business ownership, and also about the different ways to handle what comes. Whether you're riding in the front with your hands in the air, or sheltered in the back clinging to the safety bar, you'll get something out of this show.
Women + Business: Stop Sabotaging Sales
I got the lamest sales pitch in my messages the other day and it started me thinking. There are so many ways to sabotage sales, and a lot of people may be unconciously doing that, while thinking they're doing the right things. In this show, we'll talk about some common ways businesspeople sabotage their sales, and the methods that should be used instead. We'll also uncover some beliefs about women that may lead to unconcious sales sabotage.
Women + Business: Handling Rejection
Rejection is a part of every day life and it's something everyone needs to learn to handle. While being rejected is never fun, how you deal with being rejected can have a huge effect on the impact that rejection makes on your life. I used to handle rejection quite badly, and have invested a lot of time in learning to deal with it more positively and in a more mentally healthy way. In this show, I'll share some of the tips and tricks I've learned. (Hat tip to Nicky Adamkiewicz, who did a post on this subject in her group and gave me the idea!)
Women + Business: Your Relationship to Money
Given that women haven't, historically anyway, had control over their own money for very long, it's not surprising our relationship with it is complicated. From jokes about hiding purchases from spouses, to contending with pricing fears and the idea that spending on yourself is selfish and bad, women have a lot to untangle when it comes to money. In this show, I cover some of the most common issues and discuss some ways to combat them. There might be a little history lesson too!
Women + Business: Building Good Habits
It's a new year, and with a new year comes the desire to create new habits, hopefully, ones that are good for you. This show will discuss ways to create good habits, get rid of bad ones, and why your habits matter.
Women + Business: 100th Show
This is the 100th episode of Women + Business. In this show I'll talk about what I've learned over 100 episodes. There's been a lot of laughter, a few tears, a great deal of learning, and definitely a lot of love and support. Doing Women + Business has been an adventure, and I'll share some of my favorite moments and stories with you.
Women + Business: Forgiveness
Inspired by a question during last week's show. Women are often touted as beings of peace and forgiveness, but is that always a good thing? Do we sometimes let things go that we should protest? Do we forgive to keep the peace, or forgive those who maybe aren't really repenting because it's the "nice" thing to do? We'll talk about the role of forgiveness in women's lives throughout history and how to decide when, and if, to forgive someone, and what that actually means.
