Litsam

Litsam Seattle-based publisher excited about bringing readers into new worlds!

A small press focusing on literature -- not self-help, graphic novels or "book apps" -- we publish those old fashioned things called books, filled with words, on paper and as e-books. Our publishing process involves an author's fan base providing direct contact with the people who make books worth writing, and giving readers a chance to be involved in the creation of something wonderful.

Go get 'em Rose!

This week, meet writer Rose McAleese! An award-winning slam poet, Rose is also a published author -- her book of poems, “Strong. Female. Character,” was released by selective boutique publisher Litsam. Before working on screenplays, Rose was a free-lance journalist with articles that appeared in publications such as The New York Times and Buzzfeed. Additionally, she has been a featured speaker at Tedx, a part of Ted Talks, and Talks at Google, in both of which she discusses what led her to writing. Always true to her Irish roots, Rose attributes her passion for comedic storytelling to growing up in her family’s Irish pub as it was constantly full of absurdly funny characters.

John Wayne’s opinion of a good story: “Get it out of doors, let some fresh air and sunlight into the story. Give the cameraman a chance to photograph something besides walls and doors and tea tables. Don’t let your story expire for lack of air.”

Amazon shakes up the market again. Before the rumors fly, this affects only books in the Lending Library and Kindle Unlimited, not direct e-book sales. (Yes, was some concern in our office...)

It's probably a response to people 'borrowing' a book and then never looking at it. After all, why shouldn't they download many books "just in case", since it's all free (or at least fixed-price.) Amazon, however, pays the author whether you ever open it or not (LL), or after you reach 10% (KU).

We haven't seen any information directly from Amazon, which may mean it hasn't yet arrived, or it may mean they do not classify small publishers as self-published (we're not, but neither are we big enough to negotiate with Amazon) and we won't see this change at all. Either way, interesting times...
