This was recorded with everywhere including .audio (RIP), Silence Recordings Acre Pulse Studios, Kingdom Studios, and 2023. It was mixed .audio and mastered by Bob Weston It took some years to make. So happy to see it included in this list of great records.

Brooklyn two piece The Triceratops released their debut full length CHARGE! This week on Learning Curve Records. We recorded this across studios, rooftops and bathrooms. It was mixed at Acre Audio and Mastered by the brilliant and patient ears of Carl Saff. I love it. Amazing songs by amazing people.

I am so happy for NEW MISERABLE EXPERIENCE who released their new full length ABSENT LOVERS today on Translation Loss Records I have had the great chance to work with these lads over the years in different projects and seeing their combined efforts meet on this album is just fantastic. Chris Alfano recorded the vocals at VOLUME FACT , I mixed the album at Acre Audio and it was mastered by BOBBI GIEL at WELCOME TO 1979

Acre toys #22 NEVE 5465 16 Channel Broadcast Console (c.1979)

These scribblings are independent thoughts with no affiliation to any company and will be intentionally unscientific…

I love it. It is hard to find more GOOD jammed in a small frame console. It is simple and beautiful sounding. loaded with balanced transformer ins and outs This one has sixteen 34128 mic / line and EQ channels and 4 busses. These include a three band EQ with inductor based mids and a two stage high pass. There are two simple and very useful pre or post aux sends and direct outs on every channel. It has 90db of mic gain and 40db of pre fade gain. It was restored this year meticulously by the kind and caring hands of Matt Marinelli at Coral Sound who has a vast experience with these little beasts. After losing my vintage Harrison 2436 in Hurricane Sandy, this became the obvious step up replacement and I couldn’t be happier. With a timeless sound and a ton of muscle, I enjoy jamming every stupid noise I can through it every day.

Congrats to Human Impact on the release of their new full length album GONE DARK out on Ipecac Recordings. We recorded this at Cedar Creek Studio in Austin TX and RAW RECORDING in NY. I mixed it back at Acre Audio. Carl Saff mastered all of the noises. Happy it is finally available for all ears.

Acre toys #21 Sennheiser MD 441 Dynamic Microphone

The Sennheiser MD 441 is a supercardiod dynamic microphone that looks (first) and sounds (second) beautiful. I have struggled with 421’s at times, feeling like the mid range feels too wide and uncontrolled, and I am Always looking for a smoother sm57 alternative. Enter the MD441 which was first released in 1971. Perhaps it’s due to the polar pattern but I have always been drawn to the focus of these mics. They most certainly impart a timeless sort of sound as well. There are roll off options and it can take heap loads of volume. I use it primarily on clean and dirty guitars and basses, as well as drums and louder percussion. And then there is the imitation leather sides….aah, a beautiful microphone.

HAPPY JULY 31st.!

With a tight turn around I had the opportunity to mix and master (at .audio ) the audio of the performance at in Clisson France a few weeks ago and it was a total blast. Recorded by the man who laughs in the face of exhaustion - Mr. and with video from SOMBRERO & Co. it was amazing to hear (and see) the work from all involved to bring these songs to the live stage.
