Community Code of Conduct

Unsettled: Journeys in Truth and Conciliation is an independent podcast dedicated to building bridges between Indigenous, settler, and newcomer peoples in Canada. This public page represents, develops, teaches, encourages, and supports a community of listeners and others who are similarly inclined. Others are not. Our Foundational Beliefs
• Canada needs to understand and

redress past and present wrongs and inequities perpetrated against its Indigenous peoples.
• These wrongs and inequities continue to harm Indigenous peoples, families, and communities.
• When we share knowledge, ideas, and stories about truth and conciliation, we create paths forward for us all. If you disagree with the above—and you’re not interested in modifying your opinion or learning more about what our podcast explores—this page is not for you. Do
• Treat everyone with respect—including commenters you disagree with.
• Expand upon posts or comments made by others.
• Express your like, love, displeasure, etc., by clicking on a Facebook reaction button.
• Ask relevant and genuine questions of each other and the administrators.
• Agree or disagree with points made by others and explain your position.
• Critique or review a posted episode or the podcast itself.
• Suggest further reading or other resources for the community.
• Share knowledge and stories.
• Like our page.
• Share our posts and tag friends.
• Adhere to Facebook’s Terms of Service and Community Standards, even those not specified here. Do Not
• Troll, bully, name call, or otherwise attack.
• Engage in hate speech, promote violence, or write anything obscene or illegal.
• Swear excessively. The occasional expletive is OK, but it’s better, we believe, to avoid swearing all together.
• Go on and on and on (i.e., insist on getting in the last word). When it’s clear a thread’s comments and responses are no longer productive, move on.
• Promote or link to sites, services, or products that contravene this Code of Conduct or Facebook’s Terms of Service.
• Spam the community to sell products. (See Promotional Consideration)

Grey Area
We accept that some generalizing about identifiable groups is inevitable in life. That’s especially true on pages like this one, because we actively distinguish between different peoples in Canada. However, when generalizations become destructive stereotypes, we draw the line. Corrective Actions of Administrators
Facebook does not allow us to turn off comments. But we can—and do—delete specific comments when they do not conform to our Code of Conduct. We can also block specific Facebook users from the page. We’ll do that if you become a serial offender or post a comment that’s particularly vile. What About Free Speech? We have the right to develop this platform in the spirit of the podcast it supports. Deciding what is and is not appropriate is included within that right. None of this is an attack on your right to say what you want. You can exercise free speech—elsewhere. Promotional Consideration
If you like, you can put appropriate links within the comment section of a specific post. However, a more effective route may be to message your link to us and suggest that we post it on the main feed. Click on the Messenger icon in the About section of the page. If we agree your link is right for our audience, we will promote it. News items, non-profit activities, and coming events are given priority. On rare occasions and at the administrators’ discretion, we may promote a product or for-profit service. The acceptance bar for these items, however, is especially high. Do not post these as comments—they will almost always be deleted. Final Notes
This page and this Code of Conduct are evolving things. Therefore, we reserve the right to change the code anytime and for any reason, without notice. We realize that much of this code requires interpretation, so we also reserve the right to do exactly that: interpret. In applying this code, we will do our best to be consistent and fair.

Here's a new single from a past guest on the show.

Tom joined us for Episode 33: The Afterlife of a Family Lie Gives Rise to a Powerful Mohawk Voice, feat. Tom Wilson CM.

The song comes to us via Eric Alper, who also connected the dots for us with Tom and regularly promotes the work of Indigenous musicians in Canada.

We don't have an interview date set yet, but Eric has agreed to be guest on a future show.

Celebrated Canadian musician, author, and visual artist Tom Wilson (Tehoháhake) announces the release of his new single “We Live In Dreams,” co-written with award-winning journalist, storyteller, and filmmaker Tanya Talaga. The song is featured in the powerful new documentary ‘Ni-Naadamaadiz:...

Hey, folks.

We've dropped another episode, this one featuring an interview with Ian Smith, director of business development with the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta.

Ian offers a great roadmap for anyone interested in starting their own truth and conciliation journey, and he's got some top notch advice for organizations, too.

Ian, a former sergeant (musician) in the Canadian Armed Forces, is shown here during an event at the Calgary Military Museums, in the cockpit of a Lockheed Martin Starfighter.

This is our 37th episode since launching in 2020.
