The magazine is (finally) re-launching later this month with new articles on the website and preparations for the Easter 2023 Spring Edition of the magazine!

Keep an eye out for reflections on loneliness in Catholic young adults, discussion of how to make parish ministries more accessible for all, and more.

Do you have any stories about regular, everyday Catholics living out their faith in the modern world? Or hot takes on contemporary issues from a Catholic perspective? Or maybe you have thoughts on ways to help today's culture see the value of belief in God. Whatever it may be, send them to [email protected] for a chance to be published in the print edition or on the website!

The magazine is finally back!

Where have I been? Well, the magazine was originally intended (and still is!) to encourage and support people who feel like they don't have a great local Catholic community, and I've been feeling that lack particularly strongly lately and have been frustrated with my home parish and various ministries and aspects of it. So I've been taking some time to step back and process what it means to be a Catholic young adult who doesn't have a particularly accessible or healthy parish community.

I realized that I am not the only person who has struggled with engaging with parish life lately, so I have decided to process those struggles by writing articles for the magazine and talking more with other Catholic young adults with the hope of encouraging others who also lack a strong Catholic community near them.

So: it's time to get more articles and issues of the magazine published! I'd like to have online articles published weekly, and I'm officially starting prep for Issue #3 of the print and digital editions of the magazine. Do you have any stories, perspectives, reflections, or encouragement you'd like to share with other Catholic young adults? Send them to me at [email protected], and they may get published on the website or in the magazine! And if your submission is selected for inclusion in the magazine, you'll get a free copy of the issue your work appears in.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Prayer, fasting, and almsgiving: the three pillars upon which the spiritual renewal of Lent rests. What are you doing this Lent to draw closer to the Lord?

The magazine website is having some technical difficulties, so if you're trying to access it or read articles, they may not work right now. I'm working with tech support to get it sorted out and will let you all know when it's fixed!

In the meantime, enjoy this '90s website-inspired graphic design.

Many people have sent me an email at [email protected] about article submissions and with questions about the magazine, and I've been very bad about replying for a while--so I'm finally replying now! So if you see a reply from me in your inbox, it's really me. Thank you to everyone who have submitted materials for Issue 2. And if you haven't yet submitted anything for the magazine, it's never too early to submit articles for Issue 3, the Spring 2022 issue.

Psalm 51 is usually prayed at Morning Prayer on Fridays in recognition of the penitential nature of Fridays. Friday's role as a day of penance is also why the Church traditionally required abstaining from eating meat on Fridays. In fact, though we are no longer required to abstain from eating meat on Fridays, the Church still requires us to take part in some sort of penance, whether it's not eating meat, not consuming caffeine, not hitting the snooze button on the alarm clock, etc. But it's also important to remember that, even as we take part in penances on Fridays, God still loves us, even when we sin, and he always calls us back lovingly to him.

We're just one week away from Christmas Eve, and the Church's liturgical heritage reflects the nearness of the celebration of Jesus' incarnation: during the last week before Christmas, starting today, in Evening Prayer we have a series of antiphons fondly known as the "O Antiphons". The popular Advent hymn "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" is based on these antiphons. The first letters of these antiphons, when read in Latin and in reverse order from Christmas Eve to today, spell out a Latin phrase which means "I will be there tomorrow", a nod to the antiphons leading us into Christmas itself. Have you ever heard of the O Antiphons?

It's the first Sunday of Advent and the first day of the new liturgical year! More and more, I appreciate the rhythm of the liturgical year and the cycles within it which give meaning and direction to the days, weeks, and months. The ebb and flow of fasting days and feast days allows me to enter into the story of salvation history and allows the days to be more than just one day after another. The season of Advent, especially in a world which has already moved on to Christmas, encourages us to slow down and to reflect on our need for God and his loving actions throughout all of history.

How do you celebrate the different liturgical seasons?

St. Clement was, at the very end of the first century AD, the fourth pope of Rome. He wrote a well-known letter to the Corinthians which can be found online and makes for good reading. Clement's feast day provides us a chance to reflect on the amazing gift of the continuity of episcopal and papal succession from the apostles all the day down to our time. Have you ever read Clement's letter to the Corinthians?
