Founded in 1988, the Montgomery County Juvenile Court CASA Program is dedicated to the principle that every child is entitled to have a permanent home and family and to be free from abuse and neglect. CASA volunteers are appointed by the Court for children that are alleged abused and/or neglected. For over 400 children, the 140 CASA volunteers are the one constant adult presence in their lives, advocating on the child's behalf to achieve a safe and permanent living situation. CASA is a national organization established in the late 1970s. Montgomery County Juvenile Court Judge Anthony Capizzi was a member of the National CASA Board and Presently he is a member of the national CASA Advisory Council. Since its inception, CASA volunteers have helped approximately 12,000 children and 6,000 families in Montgomery County.

Recently, there was some awesome news from Wright State University Athletics. They received the first ever McCafferty Trophy, which recognizes the Horizon League’s all-sport champion. The Raiders won regular-season titles in men's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball and baseball, as well as post-season tournaments in women's basketball and golf. Men's soccer and basketball also advanced to the finals of their post-season tournaments. Women's cross country placed second at their championship. So, to Athletic Director, Bob Grant and the rest of the folks that make up Wright State University Athletics good luck this year!

Dayton Right to Life on North Findlay Street does a lot of good things for our community. For the past 30 years they have operated the Stork’s Nest Free Baby Pantry where families can come get baby and toddler supplies and clothes. Last year over 1900 families got some much-needed food, clothes, and over 33,000 diapers! They sponsor community baby showers and offer parent education opportunities. Since 1977, they have given over $58,000 in scholarships to mothers who wish to continue their education. The Dayton Right to Life has been a voice for the voiceless for over 47 years. So, to their Executive Director, Margie Christie, and the countless volunteers, thank you, you’re Good News for Dayton!

2019 has been nothing short of a tragic year for our city, from the devastation of the tornadoes to the tragic and senseless loss of life of good people enjoying an evening in the Oregon District. But, what we do know about this community is that we rise up, face challenges and support each other. At the center of the rebuilding and healing is our faith based community that quickly deployed thousands of volunteers to collect supplies, help with the clean up, begin rebuilding and provide emotional and spiritual support to those in need.
When the people of our community needed to begin the healing process after the Oregon District shootings, spiritual and community leaders came together. Our faith community turning that hurt into love is Good News for Dayton and Dayton Strong.

Over 40 years ago, the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce introduced one of the first community based leadership development programs in the country appropriately named, Leadership Dayton Each year, up to 50 people from diverse backgrounds are selected to participate in the class. Over a 10 month period, the class does a deep dive into different facets of the community from healthcare to the arts to education and more. The program give the participant the opportunity to learn and identify ways that they can better serve the region. Leadership Dayton.
