AT LEAST TWENTY-FIVE (25) FLOOD VICTIMS IN MAMBWE DISTRICT RECEIVE TENTS FROM DISASTER MANAGEMENT AND MITIGATION UNIT ( DMMU)

At least 25 flood victims in Mambwe District of Eastern Province have received tents from DMMU.

Speaking when he toured Ncheka ward , yesterday, the District Commissioner Mr William Banda, said the DMMU is doing everything possible to insure that flash flood victims are safe in the District.

The D.C said so far the District received 25 tents which have been distributed to some of the victims in Ncheka ward this afternoon.

Mr Banda noted that the tents were not enough to be distributed to all the 28 victims whose houses were collapsed due to floods in Ncheka ward.

He urged the Victims across the District to be patient as DMMU will soon send some more tents and relief food to the District.

Mr Banda who was to tour Ncheka and Chipako ward could not monitor Chipako ward as the road leading to the ward is submerged in water.

He appealed to DDMU through the office of the Vice President to provide the District with a helicopter so that the District Disaster Committee can assess the extent of floods in Chipako ward since the road is impassable.

According to Chipako ward Councilor, Hon. Vincent Mwanza,fields belonging to 450 households were submerged and and more than 32 houses collapsed in the ward.

Mr Mwanza said the Victims spend there nights in trees because they have no shelter.
