Canada’s New Democrats have their roots in populist, agrarian and democratic socialist movements. How can the 21st Century NDP harness their past to attract voters in rural communities?

Two current Federal New Democratic Party candidates will join host Sean Conway this Saturday night at 8 p.m. (EST) on our YouTube channel to discuss their campaigns for MP in non-urban ridings in Ontario.

Tracey Ramsey, former MP for Essex and returning candidate in the next election, and Konstantine Malakos, a returning 2019 candidate in the rural francophone riding of Glengarry-Prescott-Russell will be making their first appearances on Brave New North.

This week we'll be joined by Kiiwetinoong MPP Sol Mamakwa who will be speaking about the dust-up at Queen's Park where Premier Ford wrongly accused him of "jumping the queue" while helping isolated First Nations communities combat vaccine hesitancy.

We'll also be asking about what it means to be Indigenous while working in colonial institutions and how we can increase Indigenous participation and leadership in politics and popular movements.

Later on we'll be joined by Brave New North regulars, Shelby Prokop-Millar and Brandon Rheal Amyot to talk about the nitty-gritty of the Ontario NDP "Green New Democratic Deal" policy, the upcoming provincial budget and the lack of a federal budget two years in a row.
