Tomorrow, may 16th, breakdance will be honored during the SEA GAMES 2023, the South-East Asian multisport competition heald every two years. This year, Cambodia host the games !
We wish the best of luck to our Cambodian national team 🙏🏽
We will be there tomorrow to support 💪🏽

Shoutout to all the dancers that have showed their passion and gave all their love and soul into dance and into the Rombak Battle 🫶🏾

Dancers from South-East Asia were there to represent ! Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. All gave an incredible performance and made the crowd shout out loud !

"It was my 3rd time coming to Rombak Battle. I think it's a great event. You guys take good care of the participants with no entrance fee. I was very surprised when many people remembered that I have been to Rombak before and I am very happy about that. The audience is always passionate, the dancers are burning the floor with enthusiasm and explosiveness. I'm so happy I won and I received a lot of congratulations. I hope Rombak will develop further, so that dancers in Cambodia have the opportunity to rub more"

"It was my first time in Cambodia and first time I participated to Rombak battle. I knew this battle in 2019 because my crew members came that time. I planned to join Rombak the year after but covid came so it was canceled. The Rombak battle gave me a good feeling. The audience gave a lot of energy during the battle. When I danced, I almost forgot myself and just went with the music. I tried to support my partner from behind. It was fun because he's a hip-hop and popping dancer, but also a rapper from Thailand. We just randomly picked up each other for the battle. I didn't expect to win when I came cause I came alone with the mindset that I will challenge myself about breaking battle 2vs2. I did it my way. And prove myself that I can do it."

ROMBAK BATTLE 2023 🇰🇭

BIG UP to the founders and organizers Vibol Lim and Khenory Sok for bringing hip-hop culture to this still-rebuilding nation 🙏🏽.

Just the two of them were still able to give Cambodian youth a space for expression and fun. What we remember from this event, which has grown since their premiere in 2013 at Meta House, is the euphoria of a hip-hop culture still being discovered here. But also a passionate youth, in demand for learning with dazzling motivation.

This year 2023, the Rombak Battle aimed even bigger with a program that lasted 1 week with workshops at Phare Ponleu Selpak (Battambang) and Phnom Penh Dance Studio (Phnom Penh). The final battle took place at this modern nice place Factory Phnom Penh.

Transmission and sharing are added to the priorities of this small team of two, which nevertheless offers an event whose quality exceeds what a duo would normally be able to give us.

Bgirl Méta Mag s'est envolé pour le Cambodge.
C'est maintenant que notre projet prend tout son sens...

Nous devenons à présent un magazine culturel hip-hop en ligne qui valorise les histoires et les identités plurielles brisées et riches des artistes de la diaspora*.

Un magazine qui fait honneur au prénom khmer "មេត្តា" (Méta), signifiant "Gentillesse" et symbole d'un retour vers une culture d'origine perdue. Une référence à la culture hip-hop avec l'appellation "Bgirl", qui nomme les danseuses de breakdance.

À la recherche des figures tant recherchées durant l'enfance et l'adolescence, Bgirl មេត្តា Mag se veut être un espace de découverte, d'échanges, de rencontres, de bienveillance, de représentations et d'inspirations.

*diaspora : dispersion des communautés et des populations ethniques à travers le monde.

Bgirl Meta Mag took a flight from France to Cambodia.
This project's true significance now emerges...

We are becoming an online hip-hop magazine that embraces the rich and the diverse identities, fractured stories of diaspora* artists.

A title that is dedicated to the Khmer first name "Meta," which means "Kindness" and today symbol of the recovery of a lost culture. A reference to breakdancers in hip-hop culture with the term "Bgirl."

Bgirl Meta Mag aims to be a place of explorations, exchanges, connections, compassion, representations, and inspirations in pursuit of the south-east asian figures that we missed during our childhood and adolescence.

*diaspora: the global dispersion of communities and ethnic populations.
