Dear Brothers and Sisters,

A question came up: There are at least a few different official versions of the 54-day rosary novena available—some of which, for instance, do not include the luminous mysteries.

For the sake of simplicity, I suggest we simply pray the mysteries proper to the day and then, in addition to the normal prayers that accompany the rosary (the Apostles’ Creed and the Hail, Holy Queen, e.g.) we also pray the Memorare. This will be a graceful way of marking a special period of prayer without the additional prayers becoming too confusing or burdensome.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

A most blessed solemnity of the Annunciation to you all!

I write today to invite you to join me for a couple different devotional acts in the days and weeks to come. First and foremost, we call to mind today our Holy Father’s consecration, in union with bishops around the world, of Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. I will pray the consecration, with other priests in the area, at the cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit at noon (EST) today.

In conjunction with this prayer of consecration, I would like to invite you all to join me in praying a 54-day rosary novena, beginning today and concluding on Tuesday, May 17. Let us beseech our Lady for all the graces we seek and need, and especially ask her to shower the gift of peace upon the world!

Second, I will offer a recorded version of the seven Sundays of St. Joseph devotion. This is another pious practice of reflecting for an extended period of the virtues and merits of the foster father of our Lord. It is another powerful and extended occasion to storm heaven with our prayers and was, the story has it, given as a blessing to two Franciscan friars who had been shipwrecked and received miraculous aid by St. Joseph’s intercession. (Our praying of it, too, will encompass the feast of St. Joseph the Worker, which we celebrate on May 1.)

I will share occasional updates about the rosary novena here on the page, though these might not be every day. As for the seven Sundays, I will record and post one each week for the next seven weeks, beginning this Sunday with Laetare Sunday, the fourth Sunday of Lent. (They will be posted by the end of the day every Sunday during this period.)
