Yet, hope for lasting peace is shattered within a moment as an unknown gunman, aiming from a window, injures the Huguenot Admiral Coligny. Canrles IX attempts to preempt Huguenot vengeance by authorizing further assasinations, leading to the death of 5,000 people. Who was behind the initial attempt on Coligny’s life?
